STEELE. RESOLVE. by B. J. Daniels
Fiona after 1 night, she felt Chase pulling away from her. She made a key, found a lavender letter from another woman.in his sock drawer. She had been in his apartment many times while he was at work. Now having a name, Mary, wanting to kill her. Catching her in his apartment again, tells her his job is done, and would be leaving. Montana, that where Mary lived.
His boss felt sorry he didn’t tell him about .Fiona, she has done this many times. He remembers seeing her the first time, she sold real estate, acted and dressed like a professional.
An accident and she became Lucy, and then the plan, become friends with Mary. Would he be in time, would she believe he did care about her, was sick with the thought that she might have died in the accident, but no he didn’t love her. Twists and turns with a woman not knowing reality, abused, and not loved. Gripping tale and the author’s books always give us a good story
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion from Net Galley and Harliquin.
We learn right out the gate that Fiona Barkley is one twisted woman. Yes, she is beautiful, seems to have it all together but that is all an illusion. Something that Chase gets the full impact of in the opening chapter. She’s not one to let go when she has her sights on a man she wants and her eyes are totally focused on Chase. Not only that she is extremely clever and manipulative. As the story unfolds we find out that she has got away with a whole lot of stuff.
Chase’s boss and friend knew she wasn’t totally right because his wife was friends with her. In fact, Rick and his wife both knew and didn’t give him any warning. Some friends! But we find out later that Rick’s wife felt sorry for her.
There is also some other possible dangers headed Chase and Mary’s way. And they are all dangerous.
There are several mysteries going on. One of them was who is Chase’s father and will he ever find out who it is? Will it make any difference if he does?
I do have to say by about the 39% mark on my kindle I figured Chase had re-hashed something enough. The regret that he left Montana and Mary because they were too young to get married and he had to in order to grow up.
Still, there was plenty of action and adventure going on. And the whole story comes to a very satisfying conclusion. Which is why I gave it 4 stars on Amazon.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
I liked this book. The storyline is well written and offers both tension and emotion. Mary and Chase’s story will keep you engaged and in my opinion, often on edge. This is supposed to be a romantic suspense read but as it is written there was not much suspense to it. There was however, a pretty big creep factor. One that I though was both timely and thought provoking.
A solid read. Chase returns home to reclaim Mary the girl he had left behind. This brings a lot of crazy with it. The story has the author’s usual brand of Montana justice with a small town feel. The characters are wonderful and the plot is great. The dialogue is superb and allows the story to flow seamlessly.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I have read other books by B.J. Daniels and was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately
it was not what I was expecting. Most of her books are Romantic Suspense, this one didn’t seem to have much of either. Mary Cardwell Savage and Chase Steele grew up together, going from friends to lovers to ex’s. Chase leaves to help his ill mother, hoping she will tell him who is father is. While in Arizona, he meets a women Lucy, who is friends with his boss who is suppose to be his friend.
What kind of friends would let a drunk man go home with a nut-case. Lucy is admirer like in the movie Fatal Attraction !!! Yet Chase’s “friends” tell him nothing… strange
At this same time, Mary has a admirer in her dad’s deputy Dillon, who her own father thinks maybe
involved in stealing cattle. And again he tells her nothing and lets her start dating Dillion–What?
While all this is going on, when Mary is feeling low, she writes out her feelings for Chase puts the letter in envelope, address it leave it on table in plain view, and never means to mail it? She is then
shocked when her aunt does. Really come on.
This story has lots going on but we already know all the bad guys and gals. We know Chase and Mary want to get back together, and they are attracted to each other. Yet no real “love” scene takes place, lots of talking and some kissing.
Am sorry but I had a hard time finishing it, no real Romance, no suspense except at the end which was pretty rushed. Does have a happy end and can be read as stand alone.
This is a new series starting Cardwell Ranch: Montana Legacy Book 1 and it was really great.
It has a good second chance romance with a crazy stalker person thrown in! and I mean Crazy!!
It was a fast paced book that keeps your interest from the first page tot he last. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Chase returns to Montana to reunite with his first love Mary. Lots of action going on throughout this story from a curupt deputy to a delusional stalker. I was drawn in from the beginning and eagerly turned page after page enjoying this story til the end. I received an ARC of this and volunteered to review it
This is the second title I’ve read by B.J. Daniels and I can’t wait for more!
After leaving Big Sky, Montana and the love of his life, Mary Cardwell Savage, behind four years ago, Chase Steele is determined to go back and do whatever it takes to win back the woman he loves. What he doesn’t anticipate is the danger of a one night stand and how far she’s willing to go to exact her revenge. This story had me hooked from the beginning. The characters were great, the close knit family anyone would want to have.
I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an objective review.
It’s been a while since I have read one of B. J. Daniels books. This one didn’t do much for me. It should have been a really good, on the edge of your seat, romantic suspense. It wasn’t.
There was no real suspense, because you knew the identity of the villains all along. It was just a matter of time before someone acted. Because of that, it was a waste of time to look in anyone else’s direction. It was spelled out in detail who did what to whom and why. It kind of takes the fun out of reading the book, at least for me.
Next, Chase and Mary had been in love forever. I didn’t get any real sense of their characters. I didn’t feel any connection with them. They had no chemistry. I’m not sure why, but it all seemed very superficial. The story moved along at a steady pace, but I either didn’t feel anything at all for the characters, or I was irritated by them.
Mary seemed to be extremely naive for her age. She ignored EVERY alarm bell for both Lucy and Dillion. Luckily Chase and her father, Hud had more sense than she did.
Also, what kind of friends were Chase’s boss Rick and his wife Patty to KNOWINGLY let him leave with a CRAZY person when he was DRUNK???? They knew she was unbalanced and didn’t tell him until it was too late.
There were so many off shoots to this story. Chase and Fiona, Chase and Mary, Mary and Dillion, Mary and Lucy, cattle rustling, crooked cops, crazy stalkers, mystery of Chase’s mother wouldn’t tell, etc.
I was looking forward to reading this book. I really wanted to like it. I ended up just wanting it to be over.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy received from the publisher via NetGalley.
Chase Steele receives a letter from the only woman he has ever loved, Mary Caldwell Savage. She just meant to let him know that a woman dropped off a package for Chase with her but started reminiscing about their past. A number of years ago Mary caught Chase kissing another woman and broke up with him. She wouldn’t believe him when he told her he didn’t initiate the kiss. Then he left Big Sky, Montana and Mary. But he never stopped loving Mary and he’s heading back to Big Sky to win back her love for him. Too bad he doesn’t realize he is bringing danger along with him.
Steel Resolve by B.J. Daniels is the first book in her latest series, Cardwell Ranch: Montana Legacy. Her readers have visited Big Sky before but now it’s time for the next generation. I liked getting to see some familiar characters. Mary is the daughter of Dana Caldwell Savage and Sheriff Hud Savage. I loved Chase Steele. He realized his past mistakes and is ready to make up for them. Mary is an interesting character, a little too angsty but OK. She claims to still love Chase but doesn’t trust him. I enjoyed watching Mary and Chase resolve their issues and move on to a HEA. This is a good first in a new series for B.J. Daniels.
Mary and Chase were together for a long time a long time ago. They broke up and Chase left town. After years of being out of contact, Mary reaches out to Chase. Chase is at a point in his life he wants to come home and back to Mary. But he’s not the only one to go home. I received my copy from Netgalley. I really enjoyed the story. There were a number of twists and moments of suspense that were done well. The main characters were likable and the story moved at a good pace. I would recommend this book.
she needs his help but when he comes back so does someone that does not want her around. if you like cowboys and romance second chances and suspense you will like the book, I was given a copy of the book by netgalley but this is an honest review
Mary and Chase take you through this exciting romantic thriller. The one crazy person Chase happened to catch her attention was the one that kept pulling the suspense strings. Mary being the adorable character is caught in the middle it would seem. This author knows how to keep us on edge with the shenanigans that the crazy person does make occur. Delightful wrap up with us catching our breath for a minute until the next one.
I have been a fan of BJ Daniels for many years and I have never been disappointed in any of the books that I’ve read. This was quite an interesting story with a daring female protagonist. I felt the characters were well developed and I loved the Montana backdrop. The pace of the story was fast-moving. I could have read this in one sitting; if I had the time to do so. The hero of the story, Chase Steel, has a maniacal stalker from Arizona; where he was living, and doesn’t realize it until he’s back home in Montana. There have been a few murders in his small hometown in the few weeks that he’s been back. He blames himself for a lot of things; including the stalker; and now he has put the love of his life in danger. Will he and the local law enforcement be in time to stop the madness?
My only negative feeling is that I felt the final confrontation felt rushed and almost forced and there could have been a little more to the conclusion/resolution for the main characters.
3.5 Stars
This is another entry into the Cardwell Ranch series. This story involves Mary Cardwell Savage, daughter of Marshall Hud Savage and Dana Cardwell Savage, and Chase Steele. Chase and Mary were best friends and then later lovers when they were younger. Chase never knew who his dad was, and in this story, he learns that he was conceived in Montana, which means that his father may be nearby and may have an explanation for why he abandoned his ‘family.’ Chase left Mary four years earlier because he wasn’t ready to settle down, and he was trying to find answers to the missing part of his life with regards to his paternity. Mary never stops loving him, but she really wanted him to stay and fight for her; instead, he left and broke her heart. In a moment of weakness, she writes him a letter, telling him that she has a package for him, and also that she still loves him. Unfortunately, the letter gets seen by a woman named Fiona, who believes that she has a claim on Chase, and that he belongs with her. This makes Mary an ‘enemy’ of sorts, and she becomes a threat to Fiona. Fiona decides to take action…
The overall premise of the story is interesting and the story is well-paced. Unfortunately, there were multiple misspellings and strange happenings with capitalization in places; for example, “hud leaned BaCk…” and “aS ChaSe…” and the word “breathe” for “He tried to take a breath.” These obvious mistakes distracted from the flow of the overall story, and should have been fixed with decent editing and/or proofreading.
The characters are fleshed-out fully, and it is easy to tell who is good in the story versus who is bad. There are some emotional issues regarding Chase’s father and some abusive behavior that Fiona experienced that are treated respectfully, and there is some obvious mental illness in a character. There are a few tense scenes, and there is a low-level tension present throughout much of the story. If the reader can look past the spelling and capitalization oddities, the story is actually quite enjoyable.
I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley and am giving an honest review of this book.
Steel Resolve is an outstanding romantic suspense by B.J. Daniels. Ms. Daniels has provided readers with a book that is well-written and packed with phenomenal characters. Chase is living in Arizona when his mother dies. After he collects her ashes, nothing is keeping him there. When he gets a letter from Mary saying she has a box from a friend of his mother’s and that she still loved him, he’s ready to go back to Montana. Chase and Mary’s story is packed with drama, humor, action, spice and suspense. Ms. Daniels always writes books I can’t put down once I start them and this was no exception. I loved every page and look forward to my next book by B.J. Daniels.
Steele Resolve is part of the Carwell Ranch: Montana Legacy Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I just LOVE Ms. Daniels books. She has a way of drawing me into her stories. I feel that I am a part of the story. I just get lost in the action and I can’t read fast enough. Her characters are just so vivid and vibrant. They just come to life.
Oh how I adored seeing Dana and Hud again. It was like being in the company of old friends. (I have to go back and re-read their story all over again!)
This story is written in a multiple POV format. It is nice to get a different perspective from several characters.
This story had several different villains. Who would be the ultimate evil one. Fiona the woman who is convinced that Chase is her soul-mate? Or is it Dillon the deputy sheriff who is trying to date the sheriff’s daughter? Does he have an alternative motive? Also when Chase shows back up in Big Sky, MT, will Mary forgive him for leaving her?
You will just have to read for yourself. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to anyone.
This story centers around Mary Cardwell Savage and Chase Steele. They were HS and college sweethearts, but instead of ending together after college, Chase left her and Big Sky, MT.
Years later, a letter that Mary wrote to Chase declaring that she still loved him, and one she never meant to send Chase, changes their future.
When Chase receives the letter he decides to return and declare his love. But things are not that simple. For one , she is dating someone, and also , a woman he slept one night, has become a dangerous stalker.
Will Chase and Mary have a second chance at love? Will the dangerous woman destroy any chance of them having their HEA?
it’s a story with an engaging plot filled with bad guys, a deranged woman and of course, romance.
A well written story that will keep you on your toes from the first page to the last.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
