While the premise of this story is very good, I am just so tired reading about women who participate in such debauchery. It’s just not entertaining to me. However, the book was full of secrets, manipulation, and interesting twists. The story is unpredictable and has you guessing until you’ve turned the last page and closed the book. I love it when an author accomplishes that. I’m just ready for a book that does not encourage the type of behavior these women exhibited. Really! You wake up the morning after your bachelor party in bed with someone who is not your fiance?!
Thank you to NetGalley and Severn House Publishers for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
If you are looking for any fairy tale endings, you aren’t going to find them in this thriller, but you will definitely find dark and disturbing!
The Last Night Out by Catherine O’Connell is one wild ride! It was so unpredictable, twisty, and addicting that I read it in one day and one sitting. I can’t say I liked any of the characters all that much, but some of the things that happened just made me feel so bad for them. I really enjoyed the style of writing, and I can tell I am going to have to read everything O’Connell writes from now on.
The mystery and ending were so shocking, and I didn’t see the big reveal coming in the slightest. The end of the book had me on the edge of my seat, although I would say that most of the book is a slow burn while still being paced well enough that you don’t want to put it down. There are so many layers to The Last Night Out and the plot was very complex. It is definitely on the gritter side so if you like books like that I highly recommend reading this one!

Wow, what a book! This is one of the best thrillers I have read this year. It grabbed me from the first page and keep me mesmerized until the very end. The story takes place in the 80s and begins at Maggie’s bachelorette party which is starting to wind down. Some of the friends decide to go to a bar to keep the celebration going. Bride-to-be Maggie wakes up the next morning with a strange man in her bed and then gets a phone call with news that one of her party-going friends, Angie, has been found dead. There are lots and lots of twists and turns in this book and surprises galore! Thank you NetGalley and Blackthorn Books for the opportunity to read this fantastic thriller. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great read.
This was a really twisted book with a lot of secrets revealed slowly. Maggie is the bride to be who has a bachelorette party at her friend Carole Ann’s house. Attending are their other friends including Angie, Kelly, and Suzanne. There are six friends in all, some more well-developed in the plot than others. Maggie is about to marry wealthy socialite Flynn, but she isn’t exactly ready for the upcoming nuptials. Suzanne is having an affair and Angie ends up dead at the end of the night of bar hopping. I was not totally engaged in the plot because there was a lot of changing of the Point of View and sometimes that was a little difficult to follow about who was who since there were so many young women who were central to the story. I did like the countdown to the wedding day and the final reveal of who killed Angie. This book was an okay read but not one that I would want to highly recommend because of the mature sexual scenes and the unlikely plot. Fans of mystery or suspense may enjoy it, though, because it is original with some of the plot twists and the countdown to the wedding.
