Wonderfully heartwarming!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I just LOVED this story. What a heart-wrenching one. Mike’s sister ran away from home fifteen years earlier which she shared with Mike and their Grandmother. Mike became a cop hoping to right the wrongs and protect people with his sister. He has searched for her for years since she was gone. Mike is transferred to Eagle’s Rest (kind of a demotion) from Denver. But this way he can get into SWAT training so much easier. He gets a call that his sister had a baby and signed little Benjamin over to him. What is a big, strapping man who knows how to shoot a gun and take down the bad guys supposed to do with a newborn? His chief called in the best social service worker in the Eagle’s Rest, Paige. Paige is on 3 weeks of extended leave due to stress. She loves her job and is again the best but it has taken a toll on her soft heart. Paige will teach Mike how to properly care for Benjie.
This story is one that really touched my heart. It was so sad at times and frustrating at others. Both Mike and Paige want different things and are so totally different. How can they overcome such adversaries?
This story was written in my favorite dual POV. Getting into the characters’ mind and seeing how they respond to the different situations is a big plus for me. I can really identify with them so much better.
I highly recommend this story to everyone.
“The Lawman’s Baby” by Patricia Johns is book three of her Home to Eagle’s Rest series and can be read without reading the first two (though you will be curious about those previous characters).
Police officer, Mike McMann moved to Eagle’s Rest from Denver to have a better shot at being approved for SWAT training, but then his sister leaves behind her baby and disappears. Mike finds himself out of his depth to care for a newborn.
Paige Stedler is on stress leave from her job with Social Services. When the police chief thinks Mike should hire her as a nanny to baby, Benjie, it will help both her and Mike in more ways than one.
Both Mike and Paige face decisions about a future they never expected. Once love enters the picture, the decisions on what path to take become harder.
In “The Lawman’s Baby”, Ms. Johns has written a touching, heart-felt story.
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed reading it. Paige and Mike are characters that you might find in real life. The story flowed smoothly and was easy to follow. The story is not the usual romance and was refreshingly different.
There were some “typesetting” errors at the beginning of each chapter that I found distracting but otherwise the editing was fairly thorough.
I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I had the privilege of reading this book early. I just loved it, Patricia Johns can take 2 people that are on paper yet seem so real. Mike finds himself with custody of his sister’s newborn baby boy Benji and luckily for him Paige is on stress leave from her job in social work and is able to be his Nanny for a short time to help him out. These two are finding out that love can come calling without any warning and no matter how hard you fight it. You will feel Mike’s angst over being a new father and all that goes with it, you will applaud him as he falls for the little guy and will do what it takes no matter how uncomfortable he feels at the baby shower and in the baby store. Sit down with this book and get to know everyone, it is so worth it! my only complaint is that the book ended so soon. LOL.
