The basis for the blockbuster motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Shutter Island by New York Times bestselling author Dennis Lehane is a gripping and atmospheric psychological thriller where nothing is quite what it seems. The New York Times calls Shutter Island, “Startlingly original.” The Washington Post raves, “Brilliantly conceived and executed.” A … raves, “Brilliantly conceived and executed.” A masterwork of suspense and surprise from the author of Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone, Shutter Island carries the reader into a nightmare world of madness, mind control, and CIA Cold War paranoia and is unlike anything you’ve ever read before.

Unforgettable.
I recommend not reading this home alone on a windy night . . . .
This is basically a fake-out book where nothing is real. I was underwhelmed.
A real good story with a lot of twists and unpredictable ending.
Not one of Lehane’s best. I found the story far-fetched.
This book was amazing. I loved the set up and execution of the story were perfection, and the ending left me reeling.
Intelligent and well written. The ending is such a twist and unexpected.
an excellent and original read!
Lehane never disappoints. This isn’t his best, but it is well worth the time to read.
This is a great book! I really was surprised by the events, and I prefer books like that.
This book is a wonderful read. I’m usually quite good at anticiipating an outcome but this book bested me. Incredibly suspenseful. A real page turner. (The movie was a big disappointment.)
Predictable. Supposed to be scary but wasn’t.
Proves to me he simply cannot write a book that doesn’t grab you, and
Give you a good shake! What a great writer.
Nothing is as it seems! Edge of your seat scary good! The ending is so twisted you will have trouble believing your reading eyes!
I loved this book! I book! I remember seeing the movie and was interested in reading the novel. The plot and character development was wonderful.
This is one of the most terrifying books I’ve ever read. The darkness of the plot, characters, scenario, etc will set your teeth on edge and create imaginations that will keep you from sleeping at night. Thriller, horror, mystery and psychological anxiety at it’s absolute finest. Possibly the best novel in its genre I’ve ever read… literally.
Started off fine, then got ugly halfway through. Just not for me.
An excellent read. I will re-read it again in a year or so. I rate my books for personal use and this is only the second book in 40 years that I gave a 10. The other, although nothing like this subject, was Intensity by Dean Koontz.
I have read other books by Dennis Lehane but none have had the same impact as this book, in my opinion.
I read this in 2 days! I love everything he writes.
LOVE It!!! The end still haunts me!!
Virtually everything Lehane writes is excellent
