Unresolved anger, arrogance, revenge, unkindness, rudeness, ungratefulness, lying, self-dependency – their common denominator: they prevent us from living and loving like Jesus. The One and only Perfect Man, also walked in perfect humility. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Cinnamah-Brosia and Her friends share life lessons and experiences using fruits, essential oils, aromas, botanicals, spice and more, as well as a look at what the scriptures say about each. And readers will learn the women of the Bible that used each of these in her everyday life. This is my first book by this author, and I was in for a nice surprise, because it was so much more than I expected. Ms. Watson creates a cast of characters that will surely keep you entertained as they meet real life people, and tell the struggles that we have in our own daily lives. I thoroughly enjoyed the way she weaves the stories into her characters to make them so realistic and fun. And what an amazing way to teach ladies the truths of the Bible that we need in order to live our lives more effectively for our Lord! I have an ecopy of this book but I plan on purchasing a print copy to have laying around so I can remember to pick it up and read it some, while taking a break from reading other books! This one is definitely for all of the ladies out there! And oh, I can’t forget, I love the cover!

The Essence of Humility
I like the fun facts in the book. I learn several things from them. The ones on Almonds I found very interesting. One thing is that almonds are reliant on wild bees and honey bees for crop pollination. There is some good recipes in the book also.
This is not really a book I would normally read but I did have it for a review. Someone else may really enjoy it. I did love all the verses in the book and the encouragement of reading the Bible. There is some interesting real life stories in the book.
I received an complimentary copy of the book from the author through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
The Essence of Humility is an inspirational book that features a series of short stories centered around Cinnamah-Brosia and her friends as they discuss their life experiences while enjoying coffee at the Coffee Cottage. This is the third book featuring Cinnamah-Brosia and friends but there is a profile of the characters and some background from the previous books so that you don’t feel in the dark. Author Lynn Watson shares at the beginning of this book her assumption that love would be her subject since she planned to center her different entries around 1 Corinthians 13, the chapter commonly referred to as the “Love Chapter”. However, as she read this familiar chapter over and over, “Every single line of this beautiful passage comes down to the barest bones: humility!” Her Bible study also inspired her to feature the oils, fragrances, fruits and spices that were used during Bible times and to integrate them in the different chapters. There are nine chapters devoted to plants that are familiar to most of us and each chapter has an appropriate Bible verse, Cinnemah-Brosia’s stories and the experiences of women of the Bible and women from today. There are also fun facts, recipes, crafts and even paper dolls to spark our creativity and increase our understanding.
Many of the issues found in today’s society are the same experienced by women in Bible times and the author reminded me that “To live and love like Jesus requires us to humbly trust God and to humbly serve others.” We need to show love and kindness to all people or, in simpler terms, Live like Jesus. Love like Jesus! Be like Jesus!
I truly enjoyed The Essence of Humility and I found it to be entertaining, thought-provoking and very inspirational. This is a very different kind of devotional book but it is one that I plan to use over and over!

I am excited to be back with Cinnamah -Brosia and her friends. Each chapter is a breath of fresh air as we learn about humility. I really enjoyed the story of washing Jesus’ feet. Can you imagine what it would be like to wash the feet of others? We take away any unkind thoughts and do as God asked us to. I remember being at a church once when a guest speaker asked me to come up and wash the pastor’s feet. I was beside myself but obeyed. The feeling of doing this for anyone was an eye opening experience. I had to dismiss my thoughts and could begin to picture myself washing the feet of Jesus. It did make me humble that day and I will never forget how God watched me as I began to wash the feet of the man who was my pastor.
I have recently been taken out of my comfort zone to become a full time care giver for a family member. At first I wasn’t sure I could this, but I know there is a reason for everything. I have done this with a soft heart thinking I will take great care of this person because I know I would want the same for me. It has shown me how I have overcome doing things that make me uncomfortable and given me a time to see this person as God does. I’m thankful for the time I have with my family member and I have become more caring. I look in their eyes and I see hurt, embarrassment and tears. I also see softening of the heart and allowing me to care for them in a way that makes us realize how important life is.
I love how the author shares in each chapter a fragrance that relates to the subject. It is a nice book to soak up wisdom from and emphasizes good scriptures and stories from the bible that illustrate humility.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
“To live and love like Jesus requires us to humbly trust God and to humbly serve others.” Micah 6:8
The author has taken real stories, with information on aromatic plants and botanicals and has proceeded to teach us about humility. Chapters about getting out of your comfort zone, doing random acts of kindness, thinking before you speak and trusting in God’s sufficiency are just some of the areas to consider and apply to your life. This book makes a wonderful individual devotional and would be great for group study.
I received this from CelebrateLit. All impressions and opinions are my own.
