Two female students at a community college have died during finals week, and the college and the city of North Bend want answers. With no witnesses to the crime and no obvious signs of foul play, these disturbing occurrences may be nothing more than unusual coincidences. The sheriff’s office and medical examiner have their hands full as they try to find logical explanations for the deaths.… deaths.
Detective Kate Pierce begins to show signs of physical distress whenever she’s near the bodies, and further research leads her to believe she could be experiencing psychic transference—she’s feeling the same symptoms these students did when they took their last breaths.
Kate is determined to be heard, and when the shocking results of the toxicology reports are revealed, she and her colleagues know they’re headed down the right path. There can be only one answer and only one person involved—they just have to prove it.
When another student goes missing and is soon found dead, the case breaks wide open, and the final showdown between Kate and the suspect puts her transference theory to the ultimate test.
Editorial Review:
“In the second installment of Sutter’s smart new crime thriller series, Psychic Detective Kate Pierce finds herself on the team investigating how two young college students ended up dying under mysterious circumstances during finals week. While Kate has used her intuition to help solve cases before, this time her body starts experiencing odd physical symptoms when she’s in the presence of the victims’ bodies. After realizing that her symptoms are directly related to the manner in which the victims died, Kate tosses out a wild theory that proves to be correct—and puts her and her colleagues in the killer’s crosshairs. A terrific thriller with a thoroughly unexpected conclusion.” Angela M., Line Editor, Red Adept Editing

This book for some reason was really hard to get into but once I did it really turned out to be a good book to read.
The antagonist is sick–in so many ways. I wanted to hurt him. So many things to think about: Should we trust ourselves and our instincts? Should we question our own biases? Should we take a chance on embarrassing ourselves in front of our friends or others? Each small decision we make can have a huge impact on the road ahead. I’m glad Kate is “like a dog with a bone.”
Good read great characters
Took a while to get going then it was a lot of action. Rating about a 4.5.
If you are a fan of police procedurals, this is for you. The author did a great job of showing all the man hours, leg work, interviewing and paperwork involving hunting down a killer. Then throw in a hint of the psychic to help narrow the field. Of special note was the wonderful cooperation among all the officers and the forensic team. Everyone was given their chance to have their say, and they were open to listen to the psychic input of one of their own. Good read.
I could not put it down. I just had to see what was going to happen. It was a sad story and to think that it could happen today is frightening.
Absolutely heart rendering and my heart was scared to death. Excellent job!!!!
Enjoy this author
I’m not finished yet but this book is exactly the type I like to read! Keeps you on edge!
This is a police procedural/serial killer mystery with a touch of paranormal thrown in. It is set in Wisconsin. The story wasn’t bad, but the writing and editing were not good. Characters were introduced repeatedly just by a first or last name without identifying who they were thus leaving the reader to figure it out—was the person a detective, a uniformed policeman, the squad leader, the coroner, ancillary police staff, a friend? It was tiresome. Then as the chapter changed, the point of view would sometimes change, with the reader again having to figure out whose point of view was being used to tell the story. The medical aspect of the story seemed not to be researched well with some errors in terminology, descriptions and coroner procedures. For example, a “heart attack” and “heart failure” are not interchangeable terms and are two different medical conditions. Under the state laws of most states (including Wisconsin), a coroner does not need permission from the family to do autopsies in a wide variety of circumstances. Coroner/medical examiner autopsies are routinely performed in non-natural deaths such as homicide, suicide, accidents and undetermined or suspicious deaths. There were some less than believable gaps in the police procedures that allowed the culprit to initially slip through their fingers such as interviewing just about every casual contact the victims had, but failing to identify the college tutor, or failing to note early on that one witness had been interviewed in the vicinity of two of the crime scenes. This story needed a little more work.
love about women inthe police world
May be too much like real life.
