Wow this was my first book by Rosanne Bittner and I really loved it. How the hell have I never heard of Rosanne Bittner before? I truly can’t believe this is was the first time reading RB. I’m always looking for good Western Historical Romance authors, and God knows they are few and far between. I’m so glad I seen this book on Netgalley, and gave it a try. You can bet I’m gonna go back and read other books by RB. Logan’s Lady was a wild west ride with lots of action, strong women, hard working men, and one hell of a sexy cowboy.
Logan was so delicious. He had the super sad troubled past, and the scarred soul that would make any woman want to heal his wounds. He was rugged, brave, and a protector of women and children. Top that off with his alpha ways, his kick ass gun skills, and cowboy charms, and you have one panty melting cowboy. His past was ugly, and my heart broke for him, but I love how he handled his pain. Hunting down bad guys more dead than alive! Elizabeth was very naive, a rich Lady from England with big dreams of freedom in America. Though she was book smart, strong willed and brave she had a lot to learn about the real world. She lost so much on her trek to America, but she grew so much in this book. I loved that she was honest and spoke her mind and I really liked that she didn’t play silly games. Logan and Elizabeth were total opposites, but they complemented each other well. Their relationship was a slow burn, but when it happened was worth the wait.
I loved that this book had a lot of meat. There was plenty of character development and I got good sense of who Logan and Elizabeth were, and I connected with them. I loved them together and once Logan fell in love with Elizabeth he was all in. This book kept me glued to it. Never was I bored. This book didn’t paint a cute easy picture of life in early America. The love that the story touched on the ugly and evil that happened, the lawlessness that hurt many people. This book really worked for me. The only reason it’s a 4.5 stars and not 5 for me was it took to long for the hero and heroine to meet(over 30% on kindle) and I wanted that sooner. Still a great book and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I am hoping she writes more in this world maybe we can get to see how Logan and Elizabeth are doing setting down.
Rosanne Bittner is known for her epic series, Savage Destiny, Outlaw Hearts, Mystic Indian, and Blue Hawk Series, as well as her many stand-alone books, however, Logan’s Lady just might be her best accomplished stand-alone book to date.
Logan’s Lady has the feel of a great older Rosanne Bittner storyline.
Logan’s Lady is beautifully written with all the drama of the western frontier, her fan’s have come to expect.
Logan and Lady Elizabeth swept me away with their verbal sparring and comical banter. The magnetic pull between them had me falling in love with these characters.
I was so moved by this story as Ms. Bittner weaved Logan and Elizabeth into the fibers of my soul. Their love for one another is what we all long to find in our own lives.
Deception, heartache, and the will to survive out on the unforgiven open trail made this an exceptional western.
A beautiful story of never giving up on your freedom to live your dream.
5 stars!!!!!!
It being set in Kansas, the state I live in made it even more special to me.
Logan and Elizabeth’s story is a giggle-filled, heart-melting, and nail-biting journey to get to their well deserved and much needed happily-ever-after.
Elizabeth had some growing up to do and life lessons to learn – and then add in the culture shock changes going from London to the wild west of America and she was definitely in over her head. She had an underlying strength to her that pulled her through all the situations she faced. My heart went out to her through the beginning struggles and then fell in love with Logan right along side her.
Logan had a larger-than-life feel to him, flowing off the pages with his physical presence, his control, his honor code, his protectiveness, his power, his charm, and his sense of humor. The demons chasing him worked to give him the inner determination to heal and built the foundation for him to become stronger than his crippling past. There’s a reason women were drawn to him, and I was not immune to his power. Just Logan being perfectly Logan kept me coming back for more of the story and made me fall for him hard.
The only thing I didn’t really like was that it took till 40% before Logan and Elizabeth even met each other. I understood the importance in us living out the back-story and following their journeys to each other, because that gave us the exact mindset they were in when they each were ready to finally find the other and were in desperate need of the other. But I still would have loved to have spent more time with them together and experienced more of Elizabeth learning new survival skills from Logan. However, what helped to make up for it for me besides how quickly they bonded together once they were together, was the epilogue at the end which jumped forward about a year and gave us a glimpse of their settled future – which is a huge rarity in a RB story (in fact, I’m struggling to remember if she ever did a jump-forward epilogue before?!).
Logan’s Lady is an awesome story to spend a weekend being lost in. Definitely not one to miss if you’re a fan of Rosanne Bittner and/or historical western stories.
The untamed land of the Wild West drew people from many walks of life and became the great equalizer. To survive and thrive, these people had to respect this land and adapt. The author brings the stories of two such people to life and gives them a long hard road separately and together in a dark, gritty and sensual western romance.
Logan’s Lady tells the story of determined, but innocent Lady Elizabeth Baylor who leaves the cold, calculating and confining life in her oldest brother’s home along with her willing, but troubled younger brother to find their dreams in America. When Elizabeth encounters Logan, she has already experienced loss, grief, disillusionment and an education from the school of hard knocks. She wants to recover what was stolen from her and have justice served on the men who robbed her. For that, she needs one of the toughest hard men in the west. She needs bounty hunter, Logan Best.
Logan has lost his wife and child, fought a war, and now his life is bare of anything, but the satisfaction of hunting down the vilest criminals and bringing them to justice one way or the other. He prefers the ‘dead’ in ‘dead or alive’. A spoilt English aristocrat as a riding partner was never in the cards, but his cold heart thaws little by little as Elizabeth sticks it out through rough times and bad, learning and growing from the inside out. He fights it, but she may just be his second chance at love if he can get over his past losses. Meanwhile, a band of raping, pillaging killers are ready to turn things around and make the hunters to be the hunted.
Logan’s Lady is full of lore and attention to historical setting. There is a wealth of background and attention to the greater cast of characters and circumstances. It takes it’s time letting Elizabeth come into her own and for Logan to fall in love. It reads more like saga at times or even western fiction taking a much less romantic view of the west and putting Logan and Elizabeth through the ringer. I appreciate this style of storytelling. I thought Elizabeth was woefully naive at first and wasn’t really into her until the author began the process of change. I could totally buy into this unlikely pair because, while attraction was instant, companionship and love came along at a more steady pace. Now, that said, Logan was a lusty man and Elizabeth lost her inhibitions in private with him. She learned to become a confident lover and a match for Logan in all ways.
Incidentally, I should caution some potential readers. Some rather brutal things happen. Gun battles, sexual assault, and more, but it is not gratuitous and fits the times and setting.
In summary, this is a powerful historical western romance that tosses in some class difference and second chance, journey of the heart and mind as well as the actual trail. I count this author as one of the premier western romance writers and point her stuff out when readers want romance set in a well researched authentic western setting.
We meet Lady Elizabeth who decides to leave London with her brother hoping to find adventure and new life in America. However naively she meet someone on the ship who lies to her by making her believe that he will marry her only to steal from her leaving her broken hearted (hope she learns to not trust so quickly). She decides to go after him and had Logan to assist her getting back her stuff. Logan was supposed to be a mean bounty hunter only with desire to get his bounty but he quickly changes when he meets and gets to know Elizabeth. These two people grow up which was needed and eventually find love.. Not a bad story but had too much stuff that I truly couldn’t have cared less about. And was an instant love to me..Still enjoyable and good enough to past the time.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) Voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.
I had a bit of a wince early on in the story when an aristocratic lord in 1870’s London criticised his younger brother for ‘hanging out with’ an actress, and wondered if the whole story was going to be full of such contemporary slang. I’m glad I stuck with it, though, because the rest of the book does feel solidly period, bringing the Wild West vividly to life through the lens of Lady Elizabeth, who chooses to make a new life in America out from under the thumb of her controlling eldest brother.
I do feel I should warn readers who may fall rather for Matthew, Elizabeth’s kind and obviously dyslexic brother at the beginning of the book; he gets killed off very quickly, thus leaving her at the mercy of strangers and eventually bringing her into contact with Logan Best, the bounty hunter who’s the hero of the story.
With a wife and child lost to him in the most brutal fashion, Logan enjoys hunting down the lawless who prey on the weak. He was already on the trail of the man who stole Elizabeth’s fortune when they meet, and needs no incentive to take on the job to help her. He’d far rather do the job alone, but she has no intention of being left behind, and out on the trail her determination impresses him despite her previously pampered existence.
The pair seem like an odd couple, and it’s a slow process which sees them come to first a mutual respect and then to love. Elizabeth learning just how hard frontier life is from a farmer’s wife she stays with for a few days was a really interesting glimpse into just what life was like in the era. Because of the few anachronisms and my disappointment that Matthew didn’t eventually turn back up alive, however, I can’t quite give this five stars. I’ll settle for a solid four.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through NetGalley.
Logan’s Lady was a Rosanne Bittner special! There was a beautiful spunky heroine, a formal Lady at that. There was the requisite brave, flawed but honorable, bad guy killing hero. There was angst, heart wrenching tragedy, wicked dastardly villains. There was western drama, gun fights, Indians, lawmen and outlaws. There was faith, fear, hate but at the heart of this story an all conquering kind of love that had me reading the book wanting to get to the last page but never wanting the story to end! Rosanne Bittner continues as a favorite author. A very very talented lady! I can’t wait for more in the series!
When I saw there was a new book by Rosanne Bittner, I could not wait to read it and I knew it would be amazing! She writes the quintessential western romance that pulls at the heart and warms the soul. This is the story of a woman’s longing for adventure by traveling to America and leaving behind the strictures of England.
But as Lady Elizabeth finds out, there are unscupulous men everywhere in the world. Being stolen from, she enlists the aid of one Logan Best, bounty hunter and one tough guy. Logan has had his share of loss and heartache and my heart ached for him. He was a protector of women and children, though a fiece man to be dealt with when it came to injustice As he first meets Elizabeth, he thinks her just a naive lady from England but as they spent time together, her bravery and strong will came out.
These two characters were wonderful and the attraction between them builds up on their journey. I enjoyed every second and page and truly did not want it to end. But be assured, this will go on my keeper shelf to be read again as all of this author’s books seem to be and I know you will love it just as much as I did!!
