From the USA Today bestselling author of The Hating Game, soon to be a movie starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell, an unforgettable romantic comedy about a woman who finally has a shot at her long time crush—if she dares.Crush (n.): a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach… Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.
When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.
Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.
This next hilarious romance includes a special PS section with two Happily Ever Afters—one for this novel featuring Darcy and Tom and the other, an epilogue featuring fan favorites Lucy Hutton and Josh Templeman from The Hating Game!

4,5 stars for Darcy and Tom.
I had been expecting this book for so long after The hating game that I was afraid my self-imposed high expectations would ruin it for me. Luckily for me, they didn’t, maybe because I refrained from devouring it in one sitting, as I wanted to.
Let me tell you upfront that if you are expecting another THG, you’re not going to get it with this book. Even if Sally Thorne’s voice is there, perfectly recognizable in every word, this is not a cute story. Darcy does not only have a damaged heart (literally), but she’s also complicated. Sometimes i liked her, but other times I didn’t, and that’s fine. Life is full of imperfect people making bad choices. The relationship with her twin brother Jamie is difficult to define, but let me say that I hated Jamie for most of the book. I still don’t like him, but I can forgive him because he seems to love her. And Tom Valeska is a wonderful man who needed to find his place in a world that took advantage of him for too long.
The developing relationship between these three characters is great. The chemistry between Tom and Darcy is off the charts. And the angst… Angst and a slow burn is my kryptonite, and just for that, this book is going to my favourites list. I have the feeling that this is a book that improves with further readings, and that’s something I intend to do soon.
his is my first Sally Thorne book, I didn’t read The Hating Game although it is one my TBR pile and I will read it, I found it a bit hard to get into this book the heroine Darcy and I didn’t gel I found her hard to like, but there will be lots of people that will like her, she is feisty and out there and has been in love with the hero Tom forever and I did love Tom.
Darcy Barrett has travelled the world settling down is not for her, but when her and her twin brother are left their grandmother’s house with strict instructions to renovate and sell, Darcy is home and fighting with her twin brother Jamie and then enters Tom Valeska, who really has been part of the family since they were all eight years old, and the sparks fly in so many ways because for Darcy Tom must be off limits to her, or will working together change all of that?
Tom was practically taken in by the Barrett family when he was eight years old and Jamie is his best friend, he has been engaged for years but is now running his own renovation company and is starting work for Darcy and Jamie, keeping his mind on the job and not Darcy is going to be hard for him, and he is keeping secrets from Darcy but his heart is beating for her and her only.
This is a fast paced story with a lot going on, not just renovations Darcy and Tom are having a hard time keeping their feelings from each other and Tom is so protective of her that they are pushing each other’s buttons, but when they open up about their love they fall into each other’s arms spectacularly. There are a lot of characters in this story that are really good and added a lot to the story and if you love a good romance then this one will be for you.
A great sophomore release from the author of the EPIC romcom that stole my heart… this book swooped in and secured Sally Thorne as one of my top loved authors. Friends to lovers, brothers best friend, unrequited love finally realized… romance tropes that have been done time and again but in Sally’s hands they became fresh and lively.
If you enjoy a slow burn happily ever after, this is your book.
Okay, here’s the skinny…
…I LOVED the pieces, but not the overall picture.
Here’s the catch…they’re both great, and their connection palpable, but the pieces set to connect them from point A to point B…I wasn’t as sold on. For me, the drama of “should they, shouldn’t they” was drawn out, I didn’t quite buy the twin connection/fight nor did I particularly care for Jamie, and the grand finale wasn’t as grand as I was hoping. I’ve been told (or rather saw online) that the final print includes an epilogue that the ARC does not…perhaps that solves my last “issue”. In the end, while I wanted to be blown away, I was simply entertained. Grant it, that’s not a bad thing, but it also left me wanting. Cie la vie…while it wasn’t my all time favorite, it just may be yours, so do GO OUT AND GET IN THE PAGES of your own copy, just make sure you’re adult age because yeah, there’s words, and fantasies, and situations that are more than blush worthy.
99 Percent Mine was one of my most anticipated books of January 2019. I think it’s mostly because so many people rave about Thorne’s books. Don’t get me wrong, her books are good and I enjoyed this one but it wasn’t a favorite of mine (hence a 3.5 star review). I guess I was hoping for a bit more depth in the characters. It would have been nice to have seen a little bit more of Darcy and Tom’s past (clearly, the two loved each other since childhood), a bit more twin-tuition (why add twins to the story line if they don’t FEEL like twins, and a lot more information into the heroines medical condition (that would have really added something to the story as it’s talked about so much on a surface level, but not enough to understand why it’s a part of the book- it should have been more important!). Anyway, those are the few things that bothered me enough to not fall completely in love with it. Now for the good things about the book.
I LOVED Darcy’s standoffish personality and her “go get it” attitude. What a breath of fresh air! Now a days, heroines are written as meek, shy, and quiet things that do whatever the hero wants no matter what their true feelings are. Is it me, or are a lot of heroines in romances walked all over in novels? I don’t think it’s just me… That is not the case here though and I really LOVED it. I also loved the home renovations aspect of the story. I’m one of those people who can sit all day and watch those shows on HGTV so this hit the nail on the head for me. It also brings Darcy and Tom together after all those years too. Finally, I though the ending was really cute and it felt perfect for the story. I won’t say how it ends (obviously) but it brought a big smile to my face.
With that, this is a good book and one that I would recommend. It just fell a little flat for me in some areas that I couldn’t look past in order to give it a higher rating. I guess it all comes down to personal opinions (as it should) and readers can take away what they like for the story!
Even with only two books to her credit, Sally Thorne is proving to be a uniquely strong voice in romantic fiction. As she had done with The Hating Game, she created unforgettable characters in Darcy and Tom, Jamie and Truly. Even the pets Patty and Diana and the long-dead Loretta came “alive” in the pages of 99 Percent Mine.
I hardly ever read singular first person POV books–I prefer dual third–but for Sally I make an exception. She has an amazing talent of completely drawing other characters’ personalities through the clever use of dialogue and descriptions of body language, voice inflections, tone, and facial expressions viewed through the lead’s eyes.
Funny, witty, angsty, sexy, originally Sally, 99 Percent Mine does not suffer from Second Novel Syndrome.
Sally Thorne has a cult like following from her debut novel, The Hating Game, and her readers will rejoice with her long awaited sophomore novel – 99 Percent Mine.
99 Percent Mine is proof she has the Rom-Com market covered with her witty writing style. She is a force to be reckoned with – and is up there with the writing duo Christina Lauren, and the likes of Helena Hoang, and Meredith Schorr.
99 Percent Mine is everything you have come to love from Sally – sexy, funny, heartfelt, and will tug at every emotion you can possibly feel.
I’m not going to rehash the storyline, you can get that from the jacket on the book – I’ll just highly suggest you run out and purchase 99 Percent Mine – and you will thank me for it the next day.
Well done Sally!!!
I laughed, I cried, I slowly got pulled into Sally Thorne’s world. Just a fabulous book.
Abandonment, belonging, family, loneliness, reinvention…there are deep themes threaded throughout what on the surface looks to be a light and happy contemporary romance. Yes, 99 Percent Mine is funny and sexy and plenty happy, but it also holds a palpable sort of melancholy. These characters and their relationship dynamics are so incredibly layered, and you have to pay special attention as complex elements create another 5-star read from Sally Thorne. I absolutely love this woman’s storytelling. Check it out.
Note: Bonus sections include a deleted scene for 99 Percent Mine and a previously unreleased epilogue for The Hating Game.

This has been a highly anticipated and long awaited second novel from this author. I waited to start this until I had time to really sit and enjoy it, and that I did – enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it like the first book. I know you are not supposed to compare books from the same author as it is like comparing your children, but I felt it should have had the same quality of writing which this one didn’t. The first few chapters were baffling with waffling dialogue that at times were hard to follow. Granted, I did have an early copy and the formatting made it more difficult but this was not that. It was like hearing one side of a story and only getting part of it in words on paper and the rest is lost in the character or author’s own head. And it slipped back into that state from time to time during the book. I kept going from rolling my eyes to swooning – from wanting more to wishing they’d hurry up and get it on! Don’t get me wrong, it is not a bad book, it is good but not completely polished or perfected. It doesn’t have the same lightheartedness that the first book had. This one is more intense and deeper.
So what is it about? It is a tale of childhood friends that have a bond as strong as family can be. They are propelled together to renovate a treasured home to sell after. Throw into the mix that they each have had feelings for each other since they were teens and now are both single. Makes for some interesting work days for one and all.
Darcy is a twin, and her brother Jamie has laid claim to Tom their friend as his bestie since they were eight. He has warned her to never hurt Tom and to just keep walking by. I feel it is definitely an opposites attract romance with missed chances when they were teens and the sexual tension is lit with all the years they have wasted! What I did love was Tom. He is that hard working, strong morals guy that would do absolutely anything for his family and especially Darcy. She was irrational more times than not, but she is undeniably loveable. When they were alone and connecting, it was simply great. Poor Tom just had to endure all the other craziness that comes with the twins. The last chapter / epilogue seems to be setting us up for maybe a sequel or second book with Jamie’s journey? Hopefully it will be more sumptuous than this one.
I previously enjoyed Sally Thorne’s The Hating Game and had high expectations for 99 Percent Mine. Of course the problem with high expectations is that they are often not met and you end up disappointed. This was the case with this book. 99 Percent Mine is over the top cheesy, unnecessarily dramatic rom com that tried too hard to be funny but actually failed to make me laugh. It was an easy read and I finished it pretty quickly but I didn’t get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
The writing was too much and the dialog didn’t make a lot of sense. I’ve never heard anyone speak the way the main heroine, Darcy, spoke. Her internal monolog (more like verbal diarrhea) was crazy and because the book was written from her POV it became annoying rather quickly. I would much rather read this book from Tom’s POV because it would be interesting to see and understand his relationship with the twins from his perspective. Overall, the romance between Darcy and Tom was disappointing. I did like Darcy’s best friend, Truly, and her “Underswear” business and would have liked to read more about her.
I am not sure what to think about this book, it does not compare well to The Hating Game. I may give the author another chance if she turns down the wackiness (in her writing and her characters) a notch.

This is a childhood friend-turned into something more-but she was too young to understand the depths of her feeling -and needed time to grow up -but by then it seems she’s already lost the boy of her dreams -and is now in an unrequited love stage with the man who got away – romance. So basically at 18 Darcy fucked up and now several years apart she still feels the same way for Tom. 99percent mine is a dissection of a life not lived up to its potential because of being scared. Now Darcy needs to find out that if she gets the man back can she be an adult finally and take the highs and lows of living with the one person she has always loved. This book is sexy, snarky, angst filled romance. But it definitely will keep you up reading till the end.
99 Percent Mine is another emotion-packed tale by Australian author Sally Thorne. I found it to be an addictive page-turner, and I would recommend you set aside some time to read it, otherwise, like me, you may find yourself distracted when attempting to do anything else!
Sally Thorne has a writing style that I find hard to describe but absolutely love. It always gives me the impression of a hot summer day in rural Australia. One where you grab any shade you can to escape the sweltering heat and just laze around until the cool of the evening. It feels slow paced, but never dull or dragging, hazy, and a bit dreamy. I find her books to be an intense emotional experience, not because her stories are over the top angsty, or drama filled, but because this writing style keeps your heart engaged, so you feel everything!
With this, her second book, Sally Thorne has cemented herself as a writing talent, and is firmly on my ‘must read’ author list. 99 Percent Mine was in a word, unputdownable. The writing style, the characters, and the storyline kept me hooked and didn’t let go until well after the last page was finished.
If you read and enjoyed, The Hating Game or you enjoy a story that will tug on the heartstrings, then I can’t recommend 99 Percent Mine highly enough.
