The incredible story of an Israeli mission that rescued 103 hostages from a hijacked jetliner. On June 27, 1976, Air France Flight 139 was hijacked by terrorists and flown to Entebbe Airport in Uganda. In the following agonizing days, Israeli passengers were singled out and held hostage. A week later on July 4, one hundred Israeli commandos raced 2,500 miles from Israel to Entebbe, landed in the … Entebbe, landed in the middle of the night, and in a heart-stopping mission that lasted ninety minutes, killed all guerillas and freed 103 hostages.
In captivating detail, Stevenson provides a fast-paced hour-by-hour narration from the hijacking to the final ninety-minute mission. In addition to discussing the incredible rescue itself, Stevenson also covers the political backdrop behind the hijacking, especially Ugandan President Idi Amin’s support for the hijackers, which marked one of the first times a leader of a nation had backed terrorist activities. An illustration of one nation’s undying spirit, heroism, and commitment to its people in the face of threat, Operation Thunderbolt has become a legendary antiterrorist tale.
Although first written in 1976 (and published within weeks of the event), Stevenson’s account presents this act of terrorism in a way that is still relevant in our modern-day political climate. A factual account of what could easily be read as sensational fiction, 90 Minutes at Entebbe will inspire, encourage, and instill hope in all readers.

Great story, writing could be better.
Disjointed. No idea what happened afterwards with main play
The author fills in many details that were not reported or have been forgotten in the dramatic Rescue at Entebbe. The complex and desperate strategy to save the passengers and crew from execution. Though I knew the outcome, it was a page turner as the events unfolded. A modern day history event, well documented.
The story is powerful, I like how it was presented. Good job writer! If you have some great stories like this one, you can publish it on N0velStar, just submit your story to [email protected] or [email protected]
Hard to follow writing style.
An amazing documentary of the why’s, the how’s and the who’s of the incredible rescue of the hostages and defeat of at least this terrorism attack!
A bit too close to propaganda. But the story it tells is worth knowing.
The author dragged on too long after the climax of the raid. An excellent narrative with a tedious postmortem.
It’s the amazing story of Israel intelligence and commandoes flying all the way from Israel to Entebbe in East Africa to rescue the passengers in a hijacked plane.
Exceptionable! Knew a sketch of the incident but not the details. A good read about a very nasty kidnapping of a commercial airline and the rescue by Israeli military. Recommend.
A true version of the characters and their relationships, rivalries, fears and doubts. The men who planned and executed this plan were heroic. The human cost including Amin’s revenge was high. Better than the movie.
Capturesreal ever with great accuracy.
I learned a lot.
Excellent history lesson written from the Israeli perspective. A bold and daring rescue. A must read for students of modern politics.
Two thirds of the book was about the raid to get the Israelis back. The process was interesting. The last part of the book dealt with presentation at the United Nations, pro and con against the raid. Good historically, but not interesting.
So exciting to read the inner workings of this story. Sad yet uplifting.
Superb book of ordinary people who succeed at undertaking the unthinkable!
This book was not well written. Could have been written with half the pages … interesting story though.
I’ve read a number of books & articles on the Entebbe operation. This is the best writing on what happened, why and a thorough background to put the operation into the proper perspective.
Boring and slow-moving. Too many side-stories about the people and motivations told in a very dull writing style. And after the rescue, the book went on and on about moral justifications, which by this time, the reader well understands. It’s a valable close-up glimpse of some recent history, which I only vaguely remember from news broadcasts at the time. But it is an excellent reminder that Israel continues to exist today only because of the high degree of commitment of most of its Jewish citizens.
