In this riveting first-person account, former Olympian and professional hockey player Eric LeMarque tells a harrowing tale of survival–of how, with only a lightweight jacket and thin wool hat, he survived eight days stranded in the frozen wilderness after a snowboarding trip gone horribly wrong. Known by his National Guard rescuers as “the Miracle Man,” Eric recounts his rise to success and … success and fame as a hockey player and Olympian, his long and painful fall due to crystal meth addiction, and his unbelievable ordeal in the wilderness. In the end, a man whose life had been based on athleticism would lose both his legs to frostbite and had to learn to walk–and snowboard–again with prosthetics. He realized that he couldn’t come to terms with his drug addiction or learn to walk again by himself. He had to depend on God for his strength.
Now an inspirational speaker committed to raising awareness for the dangers of drugs and crystal meth, Eric, in 6 Below, confronts the ultimate test of survival: what it takes to find your way out of darkness, and–after so many lies–to tell the truth and, by the grace and guidance of God, begin to live again.

This is an outstanding book and I recommend everyone to read it.
Enjoyed reading the true story of a person who thought he was invincible. Then he went through a life changing accident and accepted Christ as his lord and savior and was able to accept what happened.
This is the true story of the author who is totally honest about his life. He was a drug addict while a professional hockey player who also played in the Olympics. During a blizzard he went snowboarding and got lost on the mountain. He spent eight days before he was rescued. Frostbite took both of his feet and the lower part of his legs. After weeks in the hospital he realized he needed to make some changes in his life. He started going to church and met a woman who helped him become the man he is today. I appreciated his honesty and the fact he is using his past life to try to help people today.
I liked the beginning, but halfway through, I lost interest.
The real-life situations were exciting and inspiring.
This book was about a sport I have never done by a man with a personality totally different from mine. I don’t begin to relate to how you survive multiple nights of freezing temperatures. Yet he does and then he shares the difficulties of living a handicapped life with hope, faith and love.
Interesting and very honest
The author’s honesty about his feelings and motivation behind his decisions and actions helps readers relate to his struggles, even though most of us will never face the extreme circumstances he did. However, the editing oversights were annoying.
Good story, but appears to be self-published…lots of grammar/spelling errors.
This is not an exciting read, but very interesting. I recommend it.
One minute on the top of the hill. The next minute caught in an terrible storm totally unprepared with nothing but his wits to keep him alive. Learned a lot about surviving that I pray I will never have to use.
Very inspiring. Encouraging especially for anyone who has ever had to loose a limb.
This was a good story of how much you are to leave drugs alone. It can do so much harm to your body and make you do crazy things that you ordinarily would not do or think of doing. Most people would not survive 8 days under those conditions. God has a very special plan for Eric’s life. He sure had a hard lesson to learn and a very hard way to learn it.
It took me awhile to get into it, but then when I did, I couldn’t put it down
Author writes of his life truthfully, good and bad. Tells his amazing journey, well written, moves along, feelings and emotions!
This is a truly amazing story of survival! I was a bit distracted by all the typographical errors: almost one per page. Didn’t anyone proofread this book? In spite of that, I still enjoyed the book. A very good case against starting to use drugs.
Although I read the entire book, some of it was painful. The story intrigued me, but Eric LaMarque seems to still be fairly wrapped up in how wonderful a person he is. The book definitely needs an editor or proofreader as it is filled with bad grammar and incorrect words; i.e. “to” instead of “in.” It was easy to read except for the painful grammar. I’m happy that he survived his ordeal, but he still needs to give much more credit for his life to others besides himself.
Incredible survival. A testament to God’s grace
This book takes a man from hunger to Jesus.
Very good story, appreciate the author sharing! Needed some better editing.
The resolve that the skier had to live and the strength he had to have to live through his ordeal was amazing. I know, even in my best days, could I have endured what he did.
