Simple, easy-to-follow advice without any fluff. The author encourages readers to believe in possibilities while gently saying it won’t happen overnight or without practice.
I’m a big fan of step-by-step approaches, and Chris Fox takes his reader through doable, incremental steps towards writing 5,000 words per hour.
As with all self-help books, this one only works if you follow instructions with total dedication. But that said, I can attest that it is possible to achieve those dizzy heights and ‘5,000 Words Per Hour’ will get you there if you’re really determined!
A quick, easy, straight forward book. His exercises on word sprints have changed my life. I also downloaded the app which accompanies this book.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to increase their word count.
So simple, so easy, and the book points that out.
This is just what I needed at this stage of my writing journey. Word sprints have changed the way I write, for better!
I just re-read this book, and it’s fabulous. Really gets to the basics of writing quickly, and the point of why that can improve your writing. Learning how to write in flow state can release more creativity. Don’t edit, don’t question… just get that rough first draft done.
An awesome guide to improving your word count.
Too often have I sat at my screen, planning on a three or four hour slog of writing. Sometimes it works, but more often than not it’s just too imposing an idea to keep at the pace for that long.
Enter this book; the way Fox describes his approach to writing sprints got me completely on board to follow this approach with my writing. Multiple smaller sprints throughout the day vs one super long haul is just what the writing doctor ordered.
Thanks Chris!

5000 Words Per Hour by Chris Fox is a book on productivity designed to help writers increase speed and word count. It’s a short book, chock full of useful information, practical advice, and actionable exercises. A valuable resource that’s quick and to the point.
In this book the author shares his system for writing faster. What astounded me in reading it was that I was already doing some of the things he suggested, but there were also things I was missing from the system. I highly recommend this book if you want to write more and faster. Just starting to implement his suggestions is helping me improve my writing.
I’ve only just recently finished the book, so I haven’t had a lot of time to implement his steps/program, but I even with the early exercises and writing sprints, I can see an impact. I am really looking forward to seeing what the impact is 30 days from.
Great book for authors to get more words on paper. If you pick up one tip from this book it is well worth the price. When I get stuck I always refer back to this book.
Okay, if you’re a writer, you HAVE to read this. This book changed my life. Grab on to what Chris is telling you and go along, kicking and screaming if you wish, but go along with what he is explaining. If you do, you’ll be laughingly happy. Lay aside the intellect, and allow the heart and imagination to write–at a pace you did not think possible. Thanks, Chris. Read this.
