From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of TAPPING THE BILLIONAIRE comes a hilarious and sexy standalone about fate, chance, and one heck of an epically awkward meet-cute. I’m Leo Landry, one of the best shutdown cornerbacks in the nation, and the New York Mavericks’ first round draft pick. If James Bond spent his days running drills and his nights shutting out quarterbacks, … drills and his nights shutting out quarterbacks, he’d dream about being me. But professional football is on a whole other level from college, and as the new guy, I’ve got everything to prove.
No problem.
All I’ve got to do is focus, right?
Too bad life’s got other plans.
Blond hair, long lashes, and criminal blue eyes, there’s a pint-sized bombshell that I can’t stop thinking about.
I don’t even know her name, but she’s completely screwing up my game plan.
It’s too late to turn back now though. I have my eye on the prize, and I won’t settle for anything less.
4th down and only one goal in my sights—this pretty little mystery girl.
Good thing I’m at my best when the pressure’s on.

Ahhh, one of my favorite author duos are back at it again with the 4th (how fitting) book in Mavericks Tackle Love! And what a pretty funny read it turned out to be. There were things here and there that kept me from really loving it, but it was still thoroughly an enjoyable read.
Man, if I was ever on the hunt for first impression stories, Leo and Gemma would probably have the most memorable. That scene goes down as one of my favorites because it was just absolutely hilarious. I can’t even imagine being in a situation like that. I thought Gemma handled it as best as she could and it was adorable when Leo tried to not make a fuss about it. That one time was enough for the both of them leaving some kind of impression, but it wouldn’t be until some time later, they’d meet again … during yet another interesting situation.
Nonna has got to be one of my favorite characters in this book, she’s just a gem! And I’m totally down with her little business that she’s running out of her house. Yet another scenario that makes for more hilarious stories, trust me, you’ll love it!
I thought Leo and Gemma were cute together! I wished there was more romance between them in the book and it all seemed to progress a lot quicker than I’d hope. I guess it was fitting (maybe) since it’s a really quick read. The plot did seem a little bit too choppy and revealing Gemma’s passion seemed like it was just randomly dropped into the book. I honestly didn’t see it coming and was hoping to learn more about it. Leo does have a heart of gold, but I felt like he was pushing things too hard when it came to Gemma’s passion. I found it irritating and at that point in their relationship, it was too much, too soon. I was hoping they would have just kept it very light-hearted read with a lot of funny moments.
Overall, it was still pretty enjoyable read. I was just hoping for a little bit more all around. It wasn’t my favorite book of theirs, but I’m definitely looking forward to the next book they release!
**AN ARC WAS GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW**
4th & Girl is the final book in the Mavericks Tackle Love Series. They are all standalone but the characters are interconnected. Each book is based on different players on the New York Mavericks football team.
Leo Landry is a cocky, confident guy. He was a first round draft pick and the New York Mavericks newest starting cornerback. He is focused takes his job seriously and is dedicated. That is until he meets the mystery girl. He can’t get her off of his mind. He has to find her because she is the girl of his dreams and not knowing where she is, is distracting him from his job.
Gemma is beautiful, talented, strong, independent, smart, and funny. She is trying to figure out what she wants to do in life. When she has a chance encounter with Leo, he makes an impression on her, she can’t seem to get him off of her mind.
This book had me smiling and laughing. The main characters had great chemistry and the side characters had big personalities, were lovable and entertaining, I loved the witty banter, steamy scenes, and laugh out loud moments. It was thoroughly entertaining. I recommend grabbing your copy! This was a great conclusion to a wonderful series!
****ARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.****
This was hilarious and awesome! Hilarsome? Awerious? Regardless, it was really good. I loved loved loved Leo and Gemma. Read it!
This book is so cute. I love Gemma and Leo! I love her boss too, no spoilers but it’s just too funny.
Book 4 but can be read as a standalone.
The characters in this book are something else! Each and everyone of them. Don’t even get me started on Alma! 😉 Seriously…. go read the book and you will never look at your grandmother the same again. *Insert evil laugh*
After a slight mishap during a job through a temp agency, Gemma’s job prospects are even more dismal, so accepting a job she knows nothing about from a person she knows nothing about seemed like the smart thing to do. As it turns out, it was fate. You get to meet Leo in the previous book in the series, but you really get to know him in this book. He is the rookie in the NFL. Compared to the other players, he’s a bit innocent. Cocky, but he still has that innocence about him. He has a good heart. Gemma is smart but has some family issues that have a way of holding her back from her livelihood. With a nudge from his teammates, Leo decides to give Gemma a little push in the right direction. Now, if he could just get her on board with the plan.
There is so much comedy in this book. And as I said, the characters are fun and kooky and totally bring this book to life. There are a couple surprises thrown in… not really twists to the story, but surprises with the characters. There’s not really any ‘down’ time in the book. Everything moves along at a quick pace. There’s no fluff to fill the pages, and none was needed. The romance is sweet and the relationship isn’t all about the sex, though there is some sexual content. It alternates between POVs. Seriously though, you’ll be kept in stitches even to the very end. 🙂
*I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.
A couple of weeks ago, I received an ARC review request for a book written by authors, Max Monroe. Until 4th & Girl, I had not read anything by Max Monroe. After reading this book, however, I had no idea how I had never read any of their work previously. I. Fell. In. Love. The type of love where you quickly begin reading their Amazon book list. 4th & Girl was so good that I developed an insta-crush on Max Monroe and have quickly read their Jerk Duet, The Billionaire Bad Boy series, and joined their Facebook group, Camp Love Yourself. Needless to say, I have a serious girl crush on this author pairing, thanks to 4th & Girl.
4th & Girl is the fourth and, I think, the final book in the Mavericks series, a series that follows the football players of the fictional New York Mavericks. This book involves a new player on the Mavericks, Leo, and Gemma, a quirky, “trying-to-find-herself” woman. They meet in one of the funniest, most embarrassing meet-cutes I’ve read to date, and there is insta-attraction. They lose each other and find each other later, engaging in a most uproarious, sexy relationship. This story isn’t incredibly angsty, although it has a moment. It is funny, cute, and the characters make you smile. A LOT.
I would usually spend some time in my review talking about Leo and Gemma here, but it’s the ancillary characters (the others characters) that make this story. Yes, Leo and Gemma have chemistry and are amazing together. You root for them from the start. Their dates are hilarious, and they kept me laughing throughout the story. For this book, however, Alma (Nonna), Abby, and Cam are scene-stealers. The last time I laughed out loud at a book was Jana Aston’s newest book, Good Time. However, these types of laughs are few for me. I tend to read the dark, erotic, angsty type of romance. In this book, these characters don’t allow us to get too far into the angst of this book. From Nonna’s “online business” to Abby’s “ninja skills” to Cam’s “give-Leo-crap” moments, you are belly-laughing. It’s refreshing.
From start to finish, this story is cute and funny and light. I have never read a meet-cute like the one of this book, and the epilogue frames out the meet-cute in a way that will make you smile your biggest smile.
If you have just come off reading something intense or dark, read this book. It is everything that contemporary rom-coms should be.
Overall:

I loved Quinn, I loved Sean, and I loved Cam.
But Leo? Oh my, he just takes the cake! Literally from the first moment you meet him in this story, you’re instantly smitten. He’s lovable and charming, but man is this guy sexy. He’s got the perfect amount of cocky (remember he’s still just a rookie) but he’s also got a personality that’s going to hook you at EVERY turn.
Gemma is one of a kind! From page one she had me in stitches but she’d also captured my heart a little bit. Finding your direction in life is never an easy thing to accomplish, but a man like Leo Landry makes the struggle well worth it. Gemma is fun, quirky, and absolutely amazing!
4th & Girl was an absolute joy to read. I had a constant smile on my face and had to stop myself from bursting out laughing in public more times than I can count. I hate that the Mavericks series has come to an end, but this book definitely made it a little easier to accept. You’ll fall in love with new favorites and get a little dose of some of your old ones too. I can’t wait to see what Max Monroe has in store for the future.
Max Monroe. I wish I could live in their heads for a day. I want to see what goes into this crazy writing process, how they can always write characters that I wish I knew, and how they can always draw me in and hook me until the end.
This is another one of those books. Another book where I get started, thinking I’d put it down, and then read it until the very end.
You’ll love seeing your old favorites, you’ll love getting to know Leo, and you’re going to love this story!
Get 4th and Girl now!
Hands down Max and Monroe are the Queens of rom-com!!! 4th and Girl is the 4th and final book of the Mavericks series. It is just as hilarious, with a side of steam, as the previous books. Leo and Gemma have the best meet cute ever!! They didn’t think they’d see each other again but thank God fate and Nonna brought them together again!! This is definitely a must read!!
“She was my girl. My bombshell mystery package that only I had the pleasure of unwrapping. Mine to kiss. Mine to hold. Mine to taste.”
With the cutest, most awkward meet-cute in the history of all meet-cutes, the ladies of Max Monroe has teamed up once again to give us Leo and Gemma’s hilarious and charming happily ever after. 4th & Girl is book four in Max Monroe’s Mavericks Tackle Love series and it can absolutely be read as a standalone! This is the final book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series, which makes me sad because I have LOVED this series. This was so much fun to read! This book is one of those books that takes you on a wonderful ride you enjoy reading the entire time. I never wanted it to end!
While I’ve loved all the heroes in this series, I think Leo Landry is the swooniest one in this book. His hilarious “meet cute” with the heroine Gemma Holden starts us on this entertaining ride filled with many laugh-out-loud moments, zany side characters, fun and witty banter and serious steam that will suck you in from beginning to end. THIS BOOK IS SO MUCH FUN!! This is proof that the writing duo of Max Monroe is still a magic match capable of churning out such enjoyable 5 star reads!
I was generously provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
AMAZING!!! This book has it all, playful banter, hilarious scenes, hot/steamy scenes, super swoony guy and off the wall chemistry. Also cenes that will have your emotions all over the place laughing and crying.
5 Stars
4th and Girl by Max Monroe is the fourth and final book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series and was ahhhhmazing!!! This fantastic writing duo honestly never fails at getting me to laugh out loud and they always leave me with a huge smile on my face. 4th and Girl was no different. Leo and Gemma are unforgettable characters and their banter was HILARIOUS!
Gemma Holden is trying to figure out what to her with her life. In the meantime, she’s working for a temp agency to help her get by. When her job of the day is to collect samples from the players of the Mavericks what possibly could go wrong?! Well let’s just say everything did except meeting the hottest guy ever-Leo Landry. Little did Gemma know that Leo was going to change everything…
Leo Landry is the starting cornerback of the Mavericks. He’s hot, cocky, and he knows it. But he also has a huge heart. When he goes to give his sample for the drug test, he did not expect to meet Gemma. They have that instant connection plus she’s gorgeous and he wants her. But after the awkward encounter and her not showing up the next day, Leo is determined to find the mystery girl. Will he be able to?
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved this book! It honestly was my favorite out of the series. I fell in love with Leo right alongside Gemma. The writing was superb and I couldn’t put it down. As sad am I am that the series is over, I am looking forward to seeing what’s next for Max Monroe!
From the very first words of 4th & Girl, I fell in love with Leo and Gemma. Their meet-cute was one for the record books—I am grateful for my strong kegels!
Seriously, I loved all the things in 4th & Girl. All the things like how Leo and Gemma had this instant connection. Like how neither of them could get the other out of their minds—and how hilariously Alma intervened. Like how Leo and Gemma had an adult relationship. Like how they had hella sexy times between the sheets—and hella sexy times when they didn’t quite make it to the bedroom. Like how their friends and their influences made them better people and an even better couple.
But there is one thing that I don’t like. I don’t like how this is the last book in this fantastic, fun, smart, sexy, swoony, amazing series. I cannot get enough of these crazy awesome characters and I hope we see some cameos in their future because, one—Alma needs some more opportunities to scene steal, as does Cam! This Mavericks Tackle Love series is on my very short re-read over and over list—you need to add it to yours too. ~ Missy, 5 “King Kong” stars
My stomach still hurts from laughing so much at 4th & Girl. I don’t know how or where Max Monroe comes up with some of the things they write, but I don’t really care because it’s pure rom-com gold.
The first time Leo and Gemma meet had me cringing and laughing so hard that no sound came out. It was a perfect set up for all of Gemma’s quirks and Leo’s patience. I liked that Gemma knew she shouldn’t settle for a job and life that didn’t make her happy. It’s what led her to Alma (sweet mother of pearl- that woman is in a league all her own) and eventually back to Leo.
I liked that they didn’t spend every waking moment together. Leo’s job made that kind of impossible. But they were certainly creative in making time for each other when he was on the road. As he built up his relationship with Gemma, Leo also connected more with the rest of the team. Yes, there were plenty of Cam, Sean and Quinn sightings sprinkled throughout. It was the connections he made with his teammates that caused the biggest problems with Gemma. Especially when he used them to try and push her when she wasn’t ready. For as much of a hard stand Gemma took, she was the one who eventually swallowed her pride and owned her fears.
From drag queens and King Kong to the football field and karaoke 4th and Girl was a non-stop feel good read. Max Monroe created characters that were adorably awkward and super sexy at the same time. Gemma and Leo accepted each others faults but also pushed each other boundaries. And that ending, can you say full circle? It was perfect.
I love a good sports romance when it’s done right, and this definitely was! There’s something irresistible about Leo Landry, and he’s well matched in the quirky, perky Gemma. This cast of characters is just fantastic, and I’m nothing if not a big fan of odd ducks. This story has three powerful female characters, all bonkers in their own right and I love them all. You can’t help but fall for Gemma – some bad decisions on her part considered – and Leo, who should honestly be made for real life and cloned. Aunt Alma and bff Abby are just icing on the quirk cake.
There’s tension and romance and real life issues and hilarity. If you need a fast-paced but satisfying read, pick this one up for sure!
I am sad to see the Mavericks Tackle Love series end, but 4th & Girl took it out with a bang! Leo Landry is the rookie on the team, so it just makes sense that his meet-cute moment with the adorable Gemma would be under the most embarrassing of circumstances.
As with most books by this duo, humor was the thread that kept me turning the pages quickly. You never know what is going to happen with Max Monroe characters, and I was super pleased with the events that brought and kept this fabulous couple together through the story. Leo, although a bit cocky, was sweet and kind and totally into Gemma, which I LOVE. Gemma is super talented, kind, and trying to figure out what direction to take in life. They make the best couple and their personalities just clicked for me. Of course, where there’s smoking hot chemistry, there’s also some steam.
I also enjoyed the glimpses into the lives of some of our favorite Max Monroe characters, but as far as secondary characters go, Abby and Alma steal the show. Talk about laugh out loud moments.
4th & Girl is a fantastic, steamy, oh so funny read that I highly recommend.
5 PERFECT LEO STARS!! Wow, I read this book in one sitting!! This story had my laughing, smiling, swooning and just a perfect story to end my night. Leo is the perfect man and all of us women are dying to have a piece of him. Gemma one lucky girl and these two heat things up while telling you their story. If you love football, laughing, sexy times and a great funny older aunt well this is the book for you.
4.5*
Although I (still) haven’t read the first book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series, I feel pretty confident in saying that 4th & Girl is, and will always be, my favorite of the 4.
Leo and Gemma are both so adorable! Not every book do you find yourself loving both main characters equally- usually my heart leans a little more towards one or the other (and more often than not it’s the hero), but in this case, I have to say I adored both Gemma and Leo equally- their funny and awkward first meeting set the tone for all the Max Monroe goodness that was to come. And don’t even get me started on Alma, aka Nonna- what a hoot! She’s the aunt we’d all secretly love to have.
Anyway, back to the story- did I say adorable? Because it really is! Their first date was so freaking fun and I couldn’t wait to see what else was in store as they got to know each other. I loved how easy things progressed between them, they really were so cute and perfect together. I really enjoyed this story so much!
Yes, there was a point in the story when Gemma maybe got a little too stubborn, but then again, Leo kind of had it coming. So see, it all balanced out for me! Plus, given their ages, the little conflict they do encounter is to be expected.
And let’s just talk about their ages, shall we? Or rather, how they acted their age. I find that sometimes when you have a couple in their very early 20s they can tend to be portrayed as too mature/much older than the really are. But Max & Monroe did a really great job of keeping Leo and Gemma’s actions/reactions/thoughts/feelings true to those of a younger couple, and that made me kind of irrationally happy!
Leo Landry and Gemma Holden are perfection! From the moment they met, there was a whole lot of awkward and a whole lot of laughs. The banter back and forth between Leo and Gemma was so darn cute with the right amount of sexy! Max Monroe books make me laugh, but this book takes the cake! There were so many laugh out loud moments. Nonna was absolutely ridiculous, but comedic gold! I’m sad to see this series end, but 4th & Girl is the perfect ending to the Mavericks Tackle Love series!
