From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author of TAPPING THE BILLIONAIRE comes a hilarious and sexy standalone about fate, chance, and one heck of an epically awkward meet-cute. I’m Leo Landry, one of the best shutdown cornerbacks in the nation, and the New York Mavericks’ first round draft pick. If James Bond spent his days running drills and his nights shutting out quarterbacks, … drills and his nights shutting out quarterbacks, he’d dream about being me. But professional football is on a whole other level from college, and as the new guy, I’ve got everything to prove.
No problem.
All I’ve got to do is focus, right?
Too bad life’s got other plans.
Blond hair, long lashes, and criminal blue eyes, there’s a pint-sized bombshell that I can’t stop thinking about.
I don’t even know her name, but she’s completely screwing up my game plan.
It’s too late to turn back now though. I have my eye on the prize, and I won’t settle for anything less.
4th down and only one goal in my sights—this pretty little mystery girl.
Good thing I’m at my best when the pressure’s on.

4.5 Stars! I just love Max Monroe’s book and the humor they contain! Gemma and Leo are such a cute couple! I loved the dialog between and their dialog individually. Gemma is determined not to follow a job/career path because it is what her parents want her to do. She was just the right amount of stubbornness. Leo is realistic and down to earth and I loved that about him. Sidenote: Gemma temp job was hilarious! Max Monroe does a great job of creating stories where you want to be friends with the characters! Great book!
I think with each book I read by Max Monroe I say “oh- this is my favorite book”, “oh this character is my favorite”. I have to say that Thatch has had my heart in his clutch for a while but Leo Landry is sneaking up on my list of favorites.
Leo is one cocky man – on the outside – he’s a little insecure on the inside. Will he be good enough to make it in a professional football league?
Then we have Gemma Holden (ummm….hello – that name just makes me smile – not only did Gemma get Franco in Kim Holden’s Franco – but she gets Leo too <---- so not fair!). Oh, Gemma - she's a strong woman who stands up for herself and decides to not pursue her degree as insisted upon from her family. She leaves college to pursue...well - she's not sure. She's working for a temp agency and her meeting with Leo the first time will have you cracking up - maybe even peeing yourself from laughing. Leo is mesmerized by Gemma - who he has no idea how to reach. Gemma continues to think of Leo - the beautiful blue-eyed football God and can't imagine he would even be interested in her after their meeting. Fate is fickle and their paths cross again. These two crack me up! Their banter is witty, their sex is hot and I loved how passionate they were together and apart. Leo and Gemma complimented each other and the epilogue of this book just me made happy!!
I love Max Monroe. Ever since I read Tapping The Billionaire I’ve been hooked on their books. When they started this football series I swear I did such a happy dance because romance books involving football are kind of my kryptonite. This book made me laugh, swoon and left me with a grin on my face.
Gemma and Leo’s first meet was…interesting lol. I definitely shook my head and cringed for both of them. But that aside, I love how these characters came back together after that. These characters are people I’d want to hang out with. That’s something these authors do incredibly well. Their characters, flaws and all, are so damn likeable you can’t help but want to be friends with them.
There’s no denying that there’s a connection between these characters. The heat sizzles and crackles between them. Their sexy times were sexy, but I enjoyed just watching them figure each other out as well. There’s a genuiness about them that just completely works.
I loved getting to catch up with old characters from previous books-but don’t worry, this can be enjoyed as a standalone. But it was gratifying to me to see where my other book friends wound up and how they’re doing. I really felt like I could fit right into this group!
The writing here is sharp and fun. I snort-laughed a bunch of times and I definitely swooned over these characters as well. The pacing flowed well and I didn’t want to see the book come to an end.
If you haven’t read Max Monroe (what are you waiting for??) dive into this book-you won’t regret it. I absolutely recommend this title.
GAH!! What and amazing story! I am so in love with Leo and Gemma! Full of laughter and so much heart I could not put this one down! Max Monroe wrote the perfect story! I am new to this series, but I cannot wait to read the rest in this series! Great book!!
This was a really good read! This was a first for me from these authors, and I was hooked from the start. The writing flowed well, and I really loved Leo and Gemma together. Well, until Gemma acted like she did. I will say that at first, I thought that Leo should have talked to her first, but Gemma was happy to stay stagnant. Leo was trying to help her, and it wasn’t his fault that she didn’t want to tell her family what she wanted to do with her life. The secondary characters were good, although I’m not sure that I would have loved having someone like Abby just come and go in my apartment whenever they felt like it. Alma was a crazy lady, but in a good way 🙂 She did her own thing, and didn’t care what anyone thought. I loved the ending, and the look into their future was great! Although this was a first for me, I will be looking for more by these two!
I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Well my favorite secret dynamic duo took me to my happy place of football, and it was simply AMAZING! So not only did I get the absolutely hysterically funny interactions & situations, but there were football moments as well! Leo Landry is a first round pick as the New York Mavericks newest starting cornerback, and not a playboy. Yeah I know, a hottie NFL star in the making who doesn’t have chicks everywhere. On his first drug test, he comes across Gemma, who is there to pick up the samples, as she’s working for a temp service, and it doesn’t go well, nope, it’s all golden showers, and I couldn’t have been more horrified, or laughed harder, but Leo can’t her out of his head. Fast forward some time, he’s been looking for her, while she’s been trying to find some way to make money, while getting her family off of her back, when she ends up working for his Nonna, but he doesn’t know that. Now that’s when things are so funny that I can’t even read a page without laughing so hard that I find it hard to breathe, because dear old Nonna has her own business, well, you’ll just have to read it for yourselves. Anyway, Leo finds his girl, and things move along from there. And there’s sparks, they’re HOT, so hot when they explode, they set the sheets on fire. Then there’s secondaries who try to outshine Leo & Gemma. And of course, there’s a twist or two to allow the opportunity for a f-bomb or two. So once again, it’s another perfect story that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Loved Leo’s big heart.
Leo and Gemma have to take the biscuit as far as first ‘meet-cutes’ go. Theirs has to be the most awkward and smelly ever.
But they were oh so cute when they did finally get together. Leo is just starting with the Maverick’s and Gemma has been temping for the last year after having dropped out of her final year of college. She doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, so she’s just been going from job to job.
Until this last one which just happened to be with Leo’s Nonna.
Nonna, or Alma as Gemma knows her, was quite the star of this story, she was freaking awesome and helped get the kids together. Then there was Gemma’s best friend, the quirky maybe even eccentric Abby. That girl has a story to tell. Are we going to get it?
Great book, but now I have to go buy the previous three books in the series as I want all the stories.
4th & Girl by Max Monroe is the fourth book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series and the second book I have read in the series. Leo Landry is a rising NFL star and new to the Mavericks. He has a lot on his plate and his mind should be fully set on football. But when he meets a certain woman, he can’t stop thinking about her, things are about to get entertaining.
Gemma wants to follow her dream to be a musician, but she needs to figure out how to take the first steps. In the meantime, she is taking on temp jobs after dropping out of school. She was smart and caring, but also a bit stubborn. I loved Leo so much. He was such a great guy. He was sweet and sexy. Even if it took them a while to find each other again, when they did, they had great banter and chemistry and just loved them both.
I absolutely love reading Max Monroe. In 4th and Girl we get such an enchanting, sweet, funny and sexy read. I truly enjoyed reading every part of this story. I loved the characters, all of them, so much. This writing duo are definitely a 1-click author.
4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Another amazing read from Max Monroe. 4th & Girl is the final book in the Maverick Series and centers around the rookie cornerback Leo Landry. MM has you laughing out loud almost from the start. With my pneumonia it hurt to laugh but I couldn’t stop. You will fall in love with Leo. Add in Gemma and Nonna is a HOOT! I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book but I still bought the book. It was that good!
Gemma is fun, she boldly dropped out of engineering school and is working temp jobs to pay the bills. One assignment has her doing drug tests for a football team which brings her directly into Leo’s path in a hysterical way. Her next assignment brings her to Alma, a fabulously fun older woman that runs an online sex toy shop. But her true passion is music yet fear holds her back. Leo can’t get the crazy blond out of his head and when he visits his aunt, he is shocked to find her there helping his aunt. Well, Leo isn’t going to let her disappear again. Their romance is full of funny twists and sexy chemistry. As he works toward a football championship, will they find a way to build something lasting? I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
*4 Stars*
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
As usual with Max Monroe, this was a fun and fast read. Leo and Gemma’s tale begins in the most awkward of ways, and things only get funnier from there. Once they finally reconnect after their weird initial meeting, and they get past some awkward nerves on their first date, these two really open up to each other and are a really sweet couple.
Throw in Leo’s Nonna, and you’re in for some hilarious moments. That woman is a cracker of an old geezer and was definitely one of the main stars of this story.
The ending of this was just perfect as well. I literally laughed out loud at the perfection of it.
Fast, fun, sweet, this was a great read and if you’re a Max Monroe fan you definitely want to jump on this one.
The final book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series, 4th & Girl is nothing short of amazing. A story that is so hilarious in parts that I nearly wet myself (read the book and you will see how this totally fits with the storyline). Leo is a man who has had his interest peaked by a blue eyed bombshell and there is no way he can let this connection go. Gemma is a woman with doubts, family pressure and lacking the courage to grasp what she really wants in life. Can Leo give her the push to take a chance and show her she is music to his eyes. A romantic comedy that will make you laugh till you cry and have your pulse racing as these two bring the heat and steam with unbelievable chemistry. A fantastic story to end this great series on.
Gemma is trying to figure out what to do with her life. At heart, in her dreams, she’s a musician, but she has yet to gather up enough confidence to reach out and grab that dream. So she’s been putzing around at temp jobs, doing . And it’s at one of those temp jobs where she has the most awkward, hilarious meet cute in all of fiction with the hottest athlete she’s ever laid eyes on.
“Once I realized what I was seeing was, in fact, reality and not some fantasy born out of medical assisting boredom, I couldn’t stop myself from taking further inventory of the very fine specimen of a football player standing in the doorway of the lab.”
“Thick, dark hair. A faint scar resting just below his right eye. Strong, chiseled jaw. Broad shoulders. Trim waist. Toned thighs. And what I could only assume was the kind of tight ass that would have had Grandma Louise doing a double take.”
Leo is the Mavericks’ cornerback and when he sees the gorgeous girl assigned to collect the team’s urine, he’s instantly entranced.
“And good God, she was pretty. Pint-sized. Big blue eyes. And the kind of full lips most women would pay large amounts of money to recreate with the help of a surgeon.”
“She was perfect in all the ways that drew me in, and with her quirky yet adorable awkwardness, she was imperfect in all the ways that I found endearing.”
And he knows he has to have her, but when he goes back to try his test all over again, the adorable, awkward girl isn’t the one working. What’s a cornerback to do? He has his “eye on the bombshell prize, and I won’t settle for anything less than victory. Good thing I’m at my best when the pressure’s on.”
Well I won’t tell just how this determined guy gets the girl, so read and find out. What I will tell is that this is probably my favorite MM story to date. It’s so freakin’ adorable and cute and hilarious to boot! Leo and Gemma are just perfect together. He’s all kinds of sweet and sexy, and he is beyond patient with his adorkable, stubborn Gemma. And lest I forget, this rom-com is not without some serious heat, so have no fear if you’re a steam-loving reader, because MM more than delivers in that aspect, too.
I’m really, really sorry that the Mavericks Tackle Love series has come to an end, but 4th & Girl is really the best way they could have ended this already amazing series. You know they say save the best for last, and that’s what Max Monroe has done with this series – saved the best for last, because Leo and Gemma and their story are truly the best of this excellent series. Laugh out loud funny, sweet, sexy and beyond swoony. Gonna miss these hot footballers and their equally amazing women!
Wow! Max Monroe can write a book!! I loved this book and all its quirky characters. It was funny, sweet and sexy! Leo and Gemma are a great pair!! I loved Gemma’s search for herself and Leo’s learning the ropes as a rookie. Their struggles felt real and their success was all the more exciting because of them. I would definitely put this in the reread pile!! Leo makes a great addition to my harem!!
4th & Girl is a laugh-out-loud funny, sexy and lighthearted sports romance that will have you smiling and laughing in equal turns. Leo and Gemma meet under awkward (and hilarious) circumstances and are immediately smitten, but they don’t exchange names or know where to find each other afterward. They can’t stop thinking about one another, and Leo attempts to find her through creative methods but with little luck. Kismet plays a hand, and they meet again (under even more hilarious circumstances), and there is no denying that they just click. Their chemistry is through the roof, and their banter is fun, flirty and a joy to read. I love everything about this romantic comedy.

Oh my Leo and Gemma are going to give you all the feels in this romcom !
Gemma is on a mission to figure out who she is by dropping out of her senior year of engineering she is not high on her parents favorite list. She is now making her way with a temp agency that is taking her on quite an interesting journey. Disguised as a not so equipped med tech she lands in the Mavericks medical building collecting urine specimens ….yes you have read that right!
Leo Landry is the first round draft pick and he landed at the Mavericks. The awkward, quirky beautiful girl that is standing before him at the medical building has him intrigued. That chance meeting leads them on a adventure of discovery . SO cute, sexy and funny loved Gemma and Leo!

3.25 stars. This was a pretty good book. 4th and Girl is Leo and Gemma’s story. Leo is the rookie on the Mavericks pro football team. He meets Gemma when she is working a temp job collecting the players’ urine samples for testing. When she is flustered by Leo, she accidentally spills his pee cup on herself and gets fired. Neither of them can forget about each other and Leo tries to find Gemma, but he doesn’t even know her name. The two meet again later by chance and begin a relationship. There are some funny and sweet moments and they fall for each other.
I liked Leo and Gemma. They were cute together. I did think it took a little too long for them to get together. They met once at 3% and didn’t meet again until 34%. I thought the chemistry was only okay and I’m not sure I fully felt the love between them. The book felt a little short, probably because it took awhile for them to meet again. I felt like there were a few plot holes that were never fully explained, like what was the deal with Gemma’s weird friend Abby or why Leo pushed Gemma so hard to sing. Gemma had dreams of being a musician and a love of music, but I didn’t really feel that she had a love of performing, so I didn’t get that. I felt the book in general lacked a little depth and emotion. Also, it is very much a HFN, with I love you’s exchanged in the last few pages and no real plans for the future made or even discussion about relationship status (although there is a good epilogue).
Still, while this is not my favorite Max Monroe book, it is still an enjoyable, easy read. It was cute and entertaining. I liked Leo and Gemma, as well as catching up with the other couples from the series. I’m still a Max Monroe fan and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
I love catching up with my friends and family at the Mavericks and I can honestly say that’s how I feel when I pick up one of Max Monroe’s books because Its like I’m going home.
This is Leo and Gemma’s tale and what a funny tale they have to tell. Leo has just been drafted as a first round pick to the Mavericks and he is destined for fame as long as he stays injury free and focused but focusing is hard when you bump and I mean literally bump into the woman of your dreams on your very first day …….
Gemma is a bit uncoordinated, she is finding it hard to hold a job down but she won’t be pushed into a career chosen for her by her parents she needs to find her own way in life and that makes her determined , sassy and easy to love.
I adored this couple, Gemma is smart, funny and not afraid to stand up for herself while Leo is a swoon worthy man on a mission, the attraction is instant, the banter is witty, the chemistry sizzling and lets not forget the laugh or should I say snort out loud moments that you come to expect in this series. Cam, Quinn and Sean are their normal funny selfs but this time around they have a rookie to steer or point in the right direction ……..
4th & Girl is the final book in the Mavericks Tackle Love but each book can be read as a stand-alone , am I sad to see it come to an end off course but what a way to finish a series this book certainly leaves you on a high. I laughed till I cried and I certainly will re read this series because I don’t think I could ever tire of the wonderful characters this very talented writing duo have given us at the Mavericks. Another 5 star plus read from the ladies we know and love as Max Monroe.
Great, fantastic, funny read
Instantly fell in love with Gemma and Leo… well he is swoon worthy, almost to perfect to be true. This book is so much fun to read, hilarious humour, great banter and the whole story without much drama which makes this book a great read for sore soul. It is perfect book to just sit and relax. With Max Monroe writing you are 100% sure you get the best.
Another hilarious book from Max Monroe! This one has one of the most awkward but hilarious meet cutes ever. It’s really something.
Honestly, Leo wasn’t even on my radar while reading the last book. He was just another cocky rookie. Meh. LOL! But I’ve changed my tune after this book. Yes, he’s still a cocky rookie but he’s also sweet and sexy and swoony.
Gemma is possibly having a quarter-life crisis. She’s decided that she doesn’t want to follow in her family’s footsteps and has taken on an odd assortment of temp jobs. One where she meets Leo. And one where she meets Alma. Who is probably one of the best secondary characters ever. LOL! She also is afraid to follow her dreams.
Fate intervene and brings Gemma and Leo back together. And their journey is hilarious. They go on unconventional dates. Leo learns what Gemma is passionate about, but doesn’t understand why she’s holding back. He pushes and she freaks out. It takes some convincing from both Leo and Gemma’s BFF, Abby, to get her to see she’s missing out on living her dream.
I loved the interactions between Leo and Cam, and Sean too. I wish we would have gotten more from Quinn, but that’s just me being selfish.
Overall, this was a good read. It’s not my favorite of the series, but I still enjoyed it. If you’re a fan of Max Monroe then you’ll likely enjoy this book.
