This one is even better than the first book of this series (and I LOVED the first book). One of Charlie’s old cases comes back to haunt her when it’s discovered the boy she returned to his parents years ago ISN’T their child. It’s fast paced and leaves your head spinning as you try to figure it all out.
I love this series. I hope there’s more!
What an amazing fast-paced, jaw-dropping drama that had me completely captivated from the beginning and hanging on to every word. The characters are so well-defined, you feel like you know them and share their emotions through the ups, downs, twists and turns. “2nd Strike” is a must-read for anyone who enjoys well crafted, can’t-put-down mysteries. I can hardly wait for book three in this exciting series by the dynamic writing duo of Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review. I loved the book so much, I purchased a copy.
3rd Tango by Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano was another stellar suspense in this series.
Charlie and Meg’s mother hires Schock Investigations to help her prove that the neighbor that she has been spying on for years is a serial killer. Although Meg and Charlie are reluctant to get involved, they know that it’s time to end this “crazy mania” that their mother has about the neighbor. Having the opportunity to get to know their mother in this book provided insight into how Charlie and Meg became the strong, independent and competent women that they are today. Their mother is a powerhouse of strenth and intelligence. A plot that zipped along at breakneck speed, startling revelations and plenty of twists kept me turning the pages until the finale. I hope there will be more in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
Whoa, what a ride this book took us on!
I somehow missed the first book in the series ( 1st Shock –no worries, it’s absolutely on my TBR!) but this one worked just fine as an introduction. It apparently takes place right on the heels of book one, but since the events of this one are pretty all-consuming, neither Charlie nor Meg are dwelling on what went on in the past (at least not the past of book 1–their own professional past, though, plays a big role–but we find out all we need to know about that as the story goes on).
There were so many twists and turns here–the focus here is more on the suspense and Meg and Charlie’s familial and working relationship than their respective romances, which serves to make the romance there is twice as delicious–it was nearly impossible to put this book down once I’d started, because I needed to find out what was going to happen next to the characters that so quickly stole my heart 🙂
Now I’m torn–am I more anxious for book 3 to come out, or glad that I have time to catch up with book 1…?
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Charlie and Meg are visited by a young man one afternoon. This is not your normal run of the mill visit. And, even though they do not take cases by the request of a minor, this one is special. This young man was kidnapped when he was an infant and they were responsible for his recovery. Now he comes with a school assignment that required a DNA analysis. The problem is that his DNA does not match his dad’s.
The story is about the methods used to find the real parents and the real kid. There are lots of reactions to the DNA mismatch.
Somehow sex is a part of the beginning, I skipped several pages. (really, it doesn’t factor in the plot) Language is not much of a problem.
Our two Private Eyes are in love and their interests (boy friends) are included in the efforts to solve the mismatch. This is the romantic part of the story and it reaches a conclusion at the end.
Good read for the investigative mind and older readers.
Good read. At first I had a hard time with the switching back and forth between Charlie and Meg as the chapters were written in the first person.
I enjoyed this story very much. Lots of action and mystery. Thanks for a good read.
Love the shock sisters
Not that great!
Sisters work together in a private investigation business. One is ex FBI and the other one is a forensic sculptor. A 15 year old FBI case is reopened that the ex FBI sister thought she had solved years ago. Sisters want to solve this case all over again. Story is told from each sister’s POV. Along with solving the case using each sister’s unique strengths, you get lots of insight into each character’s personalities. Plot always kept me interested though some of it seemed convenient to get to the end of the story.
Keeps you reading for hours!
Liked it
The author spent so much time trying to make you aware of the previous book, that the author failed to develop a good plot in this book. Sorry!
I was looking so forward to this book and it started off great…….. then came the foul language, sorry but I will not put myself through that, I think it ruins a book. Needless to say I deleted it.
Schock Investigations is own and run by
two sister, Charlize (Charlie) and Meg
Eleanor Schock.
Charlie is a forensic psychologist and
profiler. Meg is a forensic sculptor. Matt
is a Private Investigator formerly having
worked in law enforcement who works
with the sisters.
Charlie’s first case when she was working
for the FBI was a kidnapping case. She
found and returned the baby. Now that
child (Ethan Hager’s) grown and in high
school does a DNA science project. He
discovers that his DNA does not match
his parent. Therefore Charlie returned the
wrong child to the Havers. Ethan wants
Charlie and her sister to help trace down
who the real Ethan Havers is then who he
really is. Meanwhile when the Havers
become aware of the situation, Mrs Havers
sets out to ruin Charlie and all the persons
who returned the wrong child to them all
those years ago. Even though at the time
the child was recovered and the kidnapper
caught, the family was requested to have
DNA testing done, the parents refused.
Since the return of a male child to the
Havers, the kidnapper committed suicide.
Meg takes the lead on the new case to find
the correct child and who the other young
man’s real parents are.
An interesting, intriguing, suspenseful
adventure where dark secrets are revealed.
The characters are well developed, well
rounded with interesting backstories.
The plot was uniquely written keeping the
reader on the edge of their from the
beginning to the end. There were plenty of
twists and turns for high tension drama.
This is book # 2 in the Schock Sisters Mystery
series. It can be read as a stand alone.
The author mixes the past and present
together effortlessly.
I volunteered to read 2nd Strike. Thanks to
the author for the opportunity. My opinion
is voluntary and my own.
2nd Strike is book two in the Schock Sisters Mystery series. After reading the first book in this series, I couldn’t wait to read this one. I was not disappointed. Once again, I was hooked from the get-go, and I couldn’t put it down. I definitely recommend it.
I love this book. The Schock sisters are such great characters. The suspense, twists and turns are perfect. The pace moves along and you find yourself turning pages and before you know it you are done with the book . The writing is very well done. I love the technical details and the facts that you can tell the authors did their homework research.
When you read a book about a former FBI forensic psychologist and profiler Charlie Schock and a forensic sculptor Meg Schock, you expect that their will be a lot of technical details and you expect them to be accurate.
I love books that keep me guessing. I also love books with strong female protagonists and this book has both of those plus action and a bit of romance thrown in. JJ Carrington, US Attorney for the District of Columbia is the hot, bullheaded love interest of Charlie Schock. J.J. and Charlie have such great chemistry, I think the book has just the right amount of spice going on, but not so much that it overwhelms the main story line.
In this book Meg and Charlie take on one of Charlies old cases from her FBI days. Turns out that Charlie might have made a mistake when she returned a seven year old child to his high profile parents. Their baby was kidnapped just days after his birth. With Megs artistic help and Charlies skills they tracked down the woman that had been the babysitter and the child that they believed was the one kidnapped. Now years later Ethan Havers turns up at Charlie and Megs private investigations office with some shocking news. Grab this one and a comfortable place to read it.
2nd Strike captured my attention and kept me reading from beginning until the end. The characters are all strong and detailed. The mystery and suspense was wonderfully drafted. I love the strength of Meg and Charlie as sisters Seeing the story from the different points of Meg and then Charlie was great. The storyline was fantastic. I could not read it fast enough.
You can read it without having read the first book. However, this gives you so much more character development reading them in order.
I enjoyed 2nd Strike. I look forward to the next Schock Sisters mystery to see what the future holds for Charlie and Meg.
Another excellent romantic suspense by the duo Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano. The second book featuring the Schock sisters and their PI team. The first book focused mainly on Meg, the sculptor and facial recognition sister. Charlie was the main sister this time. An ex FBI agent, Charlie had “solved” a kidnapping case several years ago but when the young man comes to her with some DNA results, the story took me on one heck of a ride from there. Read the first book which was good, but this one topped that!
