An enchanting novel about one day in the lives of three unforgettable characters as they search for love, music, and hope on the snow-covered streets of Philadelphia. Madeleine Altimari is a smart-mouthed, rebellious nine-year-old who also happens to be an aspiring jazz singer. Still mourning the recent death of her mother, and caring for her grief-stricken father, she doesn’t realize that on … doesn’t realize that on the eve of Christmas Eve she is about to have the most extraordinary day—and night—of her life. After bravely facing down mean-spirited classmates and rejection at school, Madeleine doggedly searches for Philadelphia’s legendary jazz club The Cat’s Pajamas, where she’s determined to make her on-stage debut. On the same day, her fifth grade teacher Sarina Greene, who’s just moved back to Philly after a divorce, is nervously looking forward to a dinner party that will reunite her with an old high school crush, afraid to hope that sparks might fly again. And across town at The Cat’s Pajamas, club owner Lorca discovers that his beloved haunt may have to close forever, unless someone can find a way to quickly raise the $30,000 that would save it.
Together, Madeleine, Sarina, and Lorca will discover life’s endless possibilities over the course of one magical night. A vivacious, charming and moving debut, 2 A.M. at The Cat’s Pajamas will capture your heart and have you laughing out loud.

I regret spending $1.99 for this book. I RARELY don’t finish a book but i only read 50% of this mixed up convulated story before i decided to cut my losses and move on.
entertaining
delightful romp
A rather eccentric style of writing, but charming and somewhat satisfying. Fillows the lives of several intertwined characters for a short period of time.
I tried. I really did. I just couldn’t get into it. A book must grab me from the first page and this one didn’t grab me in 50. I quit.
Loved the quirky characters.
I loved the spunky 9-year-old protagonist and all the adults who peopled her world. Story’s great too. A wonderful read.
I just couldn’t get in to it this book. I have always read 25pages of a book, and if I didn’t like the book, I quit.
disappointing
This is a collection of vignettes strung together by disparite, sad characters. It is a pleasant read, but also a disappointment in it’s vacuity.
Kept me very interested,… but needed some editing. ( Using the same image in the same words four times. )
There was much left unresolved. The characters were interesting, I wanted to know more. It was more like a long short story.
I read this for a book club I’m in, and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was. There were some great nuggets of truth interspersed with lots of laughs. There were lots of characters and story lines to keep up with, but it was worth it.
I do not give 5 stars often. This story is haunting, beautiful and SO satisfying. You will not be disappointed.
Very disappointed.
This book was a surprise. Great read for the holidays. Original, a strange brew of realistic and fanciful.
This is a truly original work from a new author. Looking forward to her next book.
After promising opening, no redeeming characters, desirable plot, or end point in site appeared. At least for first quart of book when I had to stop.
Confusing story unlikable characters
