*** “Read this chilling new crime thriller series from USA Today best-selling authors Adrienne Giordano and Misty Evans — two female detectives solve crimes the police can’t. A shocking and stunning new detective series that will leave you needing more!” ***Meet Meg and Charlie Schock, two sisters who run Schock Private Investigations, an all-female detective agency specializing in missing … detective agency specializing in missing persons and cold cases.
Their claim to fame is taking on the cases the FBI has failed to solve.
Risking their own lives in the process.
Elite forensic sculptor Meg Schock is obsessed with solving cold cases and bringing justice to victims.
When the local US attorney brings her the skull of a brutally murdered young woman, Meg spots the MO immediately. She’s seen this killer’s work before.
Like most serial killers, this twisted perp is clever.
As the sisters draw closer to solving this heinous crime, the murders accelerate. Another body turns up…and another… but the killer’s modus operandi points to a convicted murderer already behind bars. A new serial killer is on the loose, more brutal than the last.
Together, Meg and Charlie must face the fact this copycat killer is taunting them, leading them on a gruesome quest.
He’s picked up where his mentor left off
—and he’s coming for them next.

Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano always make an impressive pairing and 1st Shock, the first book in their new Schock Sisters series, is the perfect example of how well their work blends.
One was an FBI profiler. One was an FBI forensic artist. Now these sisters have brought those special talents to their own private investigation agency. They not only help law enforcement identify unknown victims and help catch the killers, they reunite living families. In 1st Shock, we get to see them working on both kinds of cases. Naturally the serial killer, who targets the sisters when they tie the style of the murder of the new victims to a killer they have already captured, is the more exciting tale but both are fascinating.
Perfect for fans of Iris Johansen, but not quite as dark as her books with a bit of humor to provide some balance and they get to work with the living sometimes!
I requested an ARC from Misty Evans, as I do whenever I get the chance. Who wouldn’t want to read any of her books as early as possible? I will be buying a personal copy as soon as it is available and look forward to spending more time with Schock sisters, Meg and Charlie, and with Matt and JJ. IF you are already a fan these two awesome authors, you might remember meeting Matt and the Schock sisters in Missing Justice, Matt and Taylor’s story.
I found the switching of narratives between the sisters confusing and annoying.
Terrific new series with Meg and sister, Charlie investigating the cold cases never solved and they are both very capable as Meg is a forensic sculpture and Charlie was an FBI profiler. Now together with a business, they can pick and choose the cold cases. Both women take turns discussing their lives, business and attitudes to help the dead have voices, Charlie has a romantic interest in JJ, the US Attorney General and he reciprocates the feelings, but he’s married. Still he sends them cases and provides support when needed as some people prefer the dead remain quiet.
The office staff include Matt and Haley and rooms where each woman can work in peace, especially Meg with her sculptures of women that she won’t forget even if they remain unknown. JJ send in a grisly case and both women become obsessed with it. The work of a new serial killer or a protege of a serial killer in prison. The stakes become high as the killer increases his kills and seems to be observing the office of the Shock sisters.Someone manages to break into their work rooms and leave a “gift” behind raising up the tension levels. A visit to the prison doesn’t help but adds confusion. Who has been visiting the killer ? Where are the killer’s relatives now he is behind bars?
Add in Charlie’s side job genealogist brings in another case that involves a mystery of someone still living. Attacks soon come closer to the sisters and information on both cases comes to a head along with the relationship Charlie is in. Tension, good information on profiling, evidence collecting and the relationship between the women is all deeply satisfying…can’t wait to read the second book.
1st Shock by Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano was a stellar beginning to this new series by the authors.I had previously “met” Meg and Charlie Shock in MISSING JUSTICE by Ms. Evans and Ms. Giordano and wanted to know more about them so I was thrilled to see this new book.
The pace of the story is quick with so many curves that I hardly had time to guess who the serial killer was. This book has everything that I look for in a suspense novel – relatable and unique characters, strong relationships and a thrilling conclusion. I was totally engaged from the first page until the end. I know there will be more as this one did end with a small cliff hanger that already has my interest. More, please.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
I loved the two main characters – the Shock sisters. I admire the way the author expressed how close but at the same time how different they are. Sometimes long passages of introspection slowed the pace of the story and when the action starts again, I had to think where the action ended before the introspection started. I didn’t expect the brilliant twist at the end.
A bit long on the emotional issues of the artistic sister, but overall; an interesting meld of talents of the sister’s friends and crew.
Great book and story line. Strong female lead characters.
This was a great read with twists and turns that kept my attention right up to the last page.
I really enjoyed these 2 very different but very interesting sisters. I also enjoyed the steamy romance with the one sister and the attorney. I never expected the killer until towards the end of the book. Action packed ending. Both sisters very gutsy! I look forward to reading the 2nd in the series. Highly recommended for easy but fast reading. I had a hard time putting this book down!!
Great forensic mystery. Intrigue and romance as the sisters and their partners track down a serial killer.
truly original. could not put it down, enjoyed the twist and turns,
What a great start. Character development is so thorough. Ready for more, please.
Loved It
This book keeps you on your toes. I love how the two sisters work together but with different aspects to what they do. Meg deals with the actual bringing life to bones or help with age progression, and Charlie is the profiler. Throw it Matt, Grey & JJ. You have a great team. Just hope JJ gets his divorce soon.
It was just ok. It seemed to have a lot of unnecessary trashy filler regarding the one sister’s sex life, as well as some ‘total lack of common sense’ moments.
It was a decent read. It was a first novel at least with these characters so they weren’t as well developed as I might like but they have potential. Was a good plot though.
It is an easy reading book that kept my interest enough for me to buy the second book in the series and read it.
Good book, enjoyed it.
A easy fast read .
