I loved this book. The characters are well written and developed. The details in this book are really good. I love to two main female characters Meg and Charlie. Meg is the sculptor and sensitive one that gets attached to her mystery victims that she is hired to sculpt. Charlie is the hard shelled ex FBI Psychologist. She has helped put quite a few murders in prison.
JJ a U.S. attorney and love interest of Charlies is a savvy guy that is not afraid to throw his weight around in order to help solve these cold cases.
Matt investigator and ex police officer is one tough guy and smart too. He is an asset to the sisters and their business. Matt solves a lot of cases and does leg work for the sisters.
The story moves along at a great pace and keeps you turning the pages. I love a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. I can not wait until the second book comes out.
I really enjoyed 1st Shock. I like watching cold case shows, so I love that this series centers on two sisters who work in forensics.
The teaser at the end is intriguing! I can’t wait to read the next book to see how that case unfolds. I’m also curious to see if the hint of romance between Charlie & JJ turns into something more.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy.
I was totally captivated by 1st Shock. The characters were amazingly detailed and intriguing. I was invested in knowing all about Charlie and Meg, JJ, Matt and even Haley. I loved how both Meg and Charlie were so different, yet both independent, stubborn, and faithfully loving to their depths. The fact that they could realize what each other’s limits were and still work together as sisters spoke volumes. The unit that these characters created was phenomenal.
The storyline also blew me away. It was haunting and kept me on my toes following the suspense and action. Seeing the story from the different points of Meg and then Charlie. Guessing at what might be next. There were enough threads left that I am sure we will have several more great thrillers.
There were some nice touches bringing in characters from Justice Team series. You don’t need to have to read that series first. But if you have, it was nice to see the Shock sisters working with them. If this is the 1st Shock, I can’t wait for the 2nd!
All I can say is wow! What a fantastic debut to the Schock Sisters Mystery Series that immediately sucked me in and I couldn’t put the book down until I read the last word. The fast pace, gripping twists and turns, ups and downs kept me on the razor’s edge. I felt connected to elite forensic sculptor Meg Schock and her sister Charlie, a forensic psychologist and profiler as the story moves seamlessly between their POV. I also enjoyed the undeniable, sizzling chemistry between Charlie and JJ Carrington, US Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano have given us another winner and I can hardly wait to see what happens next with the Schock Sisters! I received an advance reader copy of “1st Shock” and am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review. I liked the book so much, I purchased a copy for my keeper library.
A great start to this new series. I really liked Charlie and Meg. Everyone thinks that Charlie is the tough one, but Meg is pretty tough. She seems fragile, but has a spine of steel when the occasion calls for it. Meg is reconstructing a skull when she realizes that there might be a serial killer. As they start investigating, they are very sure there is a serial killer. His style is similar to a man who is already in prison. Did he have a protege? They realize that the killer knows they are looking for him and that their lives are in danger. Will they find him before he finds them?
1st Shock: Schock Sisters Mystery, Book 1
Adrienne Giordano, Misty Evans
I love when characters from another series (Justice Team) get their on series. The quirky sisters, Charlie and Meg, use their quirks to hunt for a serial killer they thought they had already caught. With the help of JJ and Matt they immerse you in the case from the beginning to the end. Trying to figure out with them ‘who-done-it’ keeps you reading nonstop to the end.
The Schock sisters are definitely ones who keep you wanting more. Strong women and their friends in a world of evil fighting for the victims.
If your a fan of Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano’s Justice series then you’ve already met the amazingly quirky Schock sister’s and if your anything like me you’ve been waiting and waiting for their very own series and here is book one, was it worth the wait???? Oh My Gosh, that’s hell yeah!!!!!
Meg Schock loves nothing more than diving into a cold case and as a forensic sculptor, she has a very unique approach to solving these cold cases that cross her desk and finding justice for the victims and their families.
Charlie Schock is the sensible pragmatic sister who does her best to keep Meg grounded and safe, not always the easiest job but they’re sisters they will do anything for each other.
This story was fast-paced, full of shocking twists and turns that had me holding my breath throughout this fantastic story.
I couldn’t put it down, this was an intense and gripping read from beginning to the very end.
1st Shock by Adrienne Giordano & Misty Evans
Schock Sisters Mystsery #1
Excellent new series that finished with the bad guy caught but left me eager to pick up the second book as soon as it is available! I loved Charlie and Meg and the sisterly bond they share. The fact that they both ended up working together to solve cold cases, put faces and names to the unknown, catch bad guys and solve other mysteries was interesting. Their love for one another is obvious throughout the book and it is nice to see and also reminds me of my bond with my sister…though we do NOT solve murder mysteries 😉 Meg and Charlie are not cut from the same mold but both are bright, focused, capable and willing to do what it takes to find justice for their “clients”.
What I liked:
* The bond between the sisters
* JJ Carrington – he is a nice addition though he has an issue he really should get taken care of…and Charlie can hardly wait till he does so!
* Matt: the man who works with them that is a bit like a little brother
* There were other supporting characters – would like to get to know them more as the series progresses
* The way the story is told by Charlie and Meg in alternating chapters
* The plotting and mystery held till late in the book as to who the serial murderer was
What I didn’t like:
* Only what I was meant not to – the bad guys, of course 😉
Did I enjoy this book? YES!
Would I like to read more in the series? Without a doubt
Thank you to the authors for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Another great story from Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano. With a great mystery to solve and an undercurrent of romance, First Shock was a great start to this new series!
The Schock sisters are an interesting pairing and I loved how they worked together, playing off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses while always keeping each other’s best interests at the forefront. Charlie, a forensic psychologist, was tough as nails when it came to solving cases and doing investigative work, while Meg, a forensic sculptor, was more emotion driven and had a hard time keeping an emotional distance from her subjects. And despite the vast differences between these two, they way they are brought to life just works – it works in how they play off of each other during an investigation, it works when they look out for each other emotionally and physically, and it works when it comes to sticking up for each other and having each other’s back.
This book was more suspense/mystery than romance, but I liked how the romance was used in the book to help define the characters and move the story along, and also setting the stage for future books as the relationship between Charlie and JJ gets further defined. The mystery itself was very well done, keeping me fully engaged even though I had an idea of who the bad guy was going to be. I also liked that there were a few other cases that were touched upon, which has me interested to see where this series can go, especially with the teaser at the end that looks to set up the next book.
As usual, Evans and Giordano have a way of writing together that is seamless and always craft dialogue that conveys emotion, using humor and heart. The story is told from alternating points of view from Meg and Charlie, and it was nice to get a look inside both their heads and get to know them both in this book. I also loved getting to visit with some characters from the Justice Team series, especially Matt, who works for the Schock sisters and is one of my favorite characters, and was featured in Missing Justice, the book where the Schock sisters were first introduced.
Definitely one to pick up!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Two sisters working together to get justice for the victims of violence. Meg Schock ,a forensic sculptor, and Charlie, a forensic psychologist and profiler, run an investigation firm. They feel strongly about solving cold cases. I liked that the sisters were passionate about what they did. Each of these women has a powerful and distinctive personality. I was impressed by how well they understand each other. I felt that they made a dynamic team. When JJ, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, brings them another victim. He puts them on the trail of a vicious serial killer. Can they stop him? 1st Schock is the beginning of a new series by Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano. It pulled me in and wouldn’t let go. The characters are compelling. The story is suspenseful and filled with mounting tension. I wanted answers and to see justice triumph. I am anxious to see what is next for Meg and Charlie.
