As Black Tuesday triggers financial despondency, three young couples in New York City must trade their lives of luxury for poverty, tragedy, and setbacks. When Jonathan Garrett’s brokerage firm collapses on the day of the Stock Market Crash, he unites with his closest friends (and former business partners), Aryl and Caleb, to relocate, track down a low-paying job, and cultivate a new life. As … life.
As the three men toil in their laborious jobs, their wives, Ava, Arianna, and Claire, slowly adapt to life in a shabby, rundown apartment, learning to sew, cook, and clean. With the help of their former, outspoken, Irish maid, Maura, and a new, equally Irish friend, Shannon, the wives become even closer than before.
The couples’ rocky path leads to more turmoil, however, when a business rival, Victor Drayton, creates one disaster after another. From petty tricks to outright violence, Victor’s nefarious mind will stop at nothing to beat down Jonathan’s last glimmer of hope.
Despite everything, Jonathan and his friends are fixated on surviving.
Emotional and financial destruction nip at their heels, until finally, with a lucky twist of fate, they escape city life and begin anew in their hometown of Rockport, Massachusetts.
A story set in the past, 1929 is full of romance, drama, and humor. Vivid, expertly crafted characters make this novel more than memorable—1929 is unforgettable.

Interesting read
Soap opera. Didn’t care a wit about the characters
My favorite book this year.
I like reading about this time period and found this book to be really interesting. The characters were engaging and I liked the story line.
This entire series is so well written I could not stop reading. It will stay on my list of favorites and will be read again. Great writing.
This tells us nothing new! We have heard this before. Took about an hour to read!
I hated the ending!
Didn’t feel like there was a real ending.
I thought the book would have more information and history of the wall street crash but it just skimmed what happened. The female characters seemed unrealistic. There was a lot of filler that added nothing to the story. I was disappointed.
This was good, but I definitely did not like the next book in the series.
Loved all of the books in this series.
Excellent story, but I didn’t like the ending
Too slow!
I felt left wanting another part to the story.
A realistic peak at a difficult period in America.
Its a soap opera
I read this awhile back but loved the series. The author takes you to a different time and place.
1929 is a stand alone novel, though it is the first in a series. Well worth reading for the historical background of Black Tuesday…the day the stock market crashed and the aftermath…
Facts learned in school are so broad that they lose power. The descriptions and actions of the challenges and fidelity demonstrated by the diverse characters have the power to make the reader feel that one is living in the Great Depression. Reading this book gave me a greater understanding of my parents and grandparents.
Amazing character building. Awesome story. Historic background. Hard to put down.
