I read this before. I take a lot of time to make sure that I mark the books I’ve read, but this one came out in 2018 before I was as diligent as now. Got about 2 chapter in and realized, “Oh yeah. I’ve read this one before.” Can’t believe I didn’t review it then. I was a bit slapdash with my reviewing back then.
Captured me from the outset. Laundry and dishes piled up because I couldn’t stop reading. HEA.
Heartfelt love story
Steamy action-packed story of unexpected depth and angst. Different storyline with rich fully fleshed out characters. I highly recommend this book .
192 was this month’s “Quirky Blind Date With a Book” selection. I’m not sure I would have chosen this for myself because I’ve been in light rom-com state of mind. I really enjoyed reading it. Yes, it has darkness but it also has light. Yes, it has violence but it also has tenderness. I think it is more on the grey scale between black and white.
I read the book from cover to cover in one sitting. It was well written, had a super fast timeline yet the arch was well paced. It ended a little too neatly for me, but I understand this is fiction and it happens that way in books.
I would recommend it to someone that enjoys the lighter side of dark reads.
I tried to push through this book and I just can’t anymore. Mafia is one of my favorite genres. I wasn’t feeling this book at all. I started it and stopped, gave it a day, then tried to go back to reading it. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Viviana was sold to a mob boss to cover a debt when she was just a child. Now she’s obligated to smile and look like the perfect wife in public while taking a beating behind closed doors.
Roan is a mercenary. It’s his job to rescue people from dire situations and return them to their loved ones. Viviana is more than a job. He cares about her and he has no intention of returning her to anyone. He plans to keep her for himself.
Viviana is lost and broken. After years of programming and abuse she doesn’t know if she can trust Roan’s promise to never leave her. Roan knows she is fragile and he’s fighting to keep his alpha tendencies at bay. He can’t afford to scare her more than she already is. Will Roan be able to keep his angel safe from the evil that lurks in the darkness? This dark romantic page turner will draw you in from the very beginning. I look forward to reading more from this author.
So I had a certain mindset going into this book and it took it and screwed it over. You see I read a lot of these books and expected things a certain way. This one doesn’t do this. It shows the side of the mafia world that doesn’t get mentioned, it hidden and covered up. You see Viviana was kept in hell. She never got to experience all the things she should have. Some so simple, she knew nothing about until she got away and met Roman. She was beaten and starved for most of her life. She lived with not one but two monsters.. One didn’t get to inflict his pain on her though. My heart really broke for her. You can tell she’s a vibrant and beautiful woman but had been beaten down so much, she doesn’t believe it anymore. I will give Roman credit. He took baby steps and was incredibly patient with her. He let her make her own decisions and trusted she’d be fine. This book has some dark parts but a beautiful love story that comes out of it. You see a woman blossom and find her strength again.
I had one issue with this book though.. I found it really odd that the mafia boss didn’t hunt her down more and it took a trip home for her to caught.. This was seriously a dumb moment for Viv. I just thought there should have been more action on finding her.. This was a good book regardless of that point.
A great story in which the alpha protector has a soft mushy centre when it comes to the woman he loves. Roan gets Viviana out of a horrible situation and protects her with everything he is. A great love story..loved it!!
Wow absolutely fabulous, I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. Vivana has been abused and kept almost like a prisoner by her mafia husband. Roman is mercenary who rescues people and he wants to rescue her. Right from the start your heart breaks for Vivana and what she has gone through. Roman has been hired as her bodyguard and sees a vulnerable women, broken and scared, but when he does rescue her the true extent of the abuse she has suffered hits him hard. It’s not only the physical abuse, but the mental abuse which covers a vast spectrum of her asking permission to just go to the bathroom, not leaving her bedroom until she is told she can and her complete lack of understanding anything in the “normal” world, even simple things like a supermarket trip or watching a film which hits Roman hardest. Roman has fallen in love with her, but can she overcome everything she has been through and love him back? Roman knows, he is going to have to handle her very carefully and gently to earn her trust and love. This book will make you cry with disgust at what Vivana has been forced to endure and move you tears at the love and tenderness that an otherwise hard mercenary shows her.
This was my first book by this author and it’s one I’ve had on my Kindle for a very long time. Why I didn’t immediately read it, I’m not sure but now I’m kicking myself for having denied all the gratification I received from this checks-all-my-boxes stories.
This definitely deals with dark subject matter – domestic violence as well as violence in general as the plot plays out. The hero, Ronan, is a complete over the top alpha who is consumed by the boss’ wife. While I hated what she went through, I absolutely adored his dedication to helping her in every way possible. When he inadvertently hurt her, he wanted to throttle himself. He just couldn’t stand anything harming her physically or emotionally.
Viviana, was broken but her sweet innocence in the face of all she had experienced was so endearing. As was her transformation into a woman who wanted normal. I would have liked to have seen a tad bit more of her once she reached that point and was hoping to do so in the epilogue but I was still pleased with the ending.
This is a fast paced read that keep me involved the entire time and I never once stopped reading once I began. The secondary characters do not play a heavy role as most of this is just the hero and heroine. There are plenty of times the reader is aware of the jealous/possessive/protective side of the hero which is what I absolutely love. The steam was high even if their relationship was slow to evolve to that place. The fact that this is written entirely in the hero’s point of view allowed me to feel his every desire for the heroine which elevated the heat exponentially.
I highly recommend this to anyone who likes their heroes OTT, doesn’t mind the triggers, and can enjoy a sweet docile heroine who is badly broken.
This book was intense but,it was a good read and sometimes a little darkness in a book isn’t so bad.
A different to me mafia book. It focuses on the rescue of a mafia wife. She’s suffered so much abuse she doesn’t know how to do basic life tasks. Her savior has loved her and protected her. Now he tries to show her what love and protection is. I enjoyed their story progression, even if all h r past was hard to take in.
What a fantastic story! This is my first story from Nikki Belaire, and I will be back for more. I was intrigued from the very first word with the gripping story line. It was a fast-paced story about a mafia wife, Viviana. I loved the point of view from the hero, Roan. His love was a pure, sweet love for Viviana. There were moments in the story that I questioned his intent, but the way he cared, nurtured, and protected Viviana was swoon-worthy. The story had many unexpected turns, and I was kept on the edge of my seat, turning pages well into the night. The scenes went from heartbreaking to hot to passionate to hopeful. I can’t wait to pick up another book from Nikki!
3.5 Stars
I liked the premise to this one, it had the making for a good Dark romance. I liked that you could see the effects of Viviana’s past and the slow movement toward getting used to a new way of life, even if it was painful to see how damaged she truly was, she didn’t just change overnight. I wish this story was told in a dual POV, I would like to have seen things from Viviana’s perspective – although it would have probably broken my heart. Roan’s loyalty, strength and love were encouraging. I don’t think I hated anyone more than the Moretti brothers in any book I’ve read.
WOW!! WOW!! SPEECHLESS!! WOW! Nikki Belaire is a First time AUTHOR for me and She Had Me at the Very First chapter!! 192 Will have you INTRIGUED the moment you Start Reading!!
Viviana and Roan’s Storytelling was Outstanding balance of Raw Emotions and not for the Faint of Hearts because it deals with sensitive subjects of Domestic violence abuse.
However Nikki Belaire wrote their story with so much conviction that is Beautifully written with a hint of a Darkside! THIS BOOK will have you on an Emotional Rollercoaster Ride with Twists and Turns that will leave you Speechless!! And the Sexual Chemistry is off the Charts HOT and leaves you Hot & Bothered!! I was Blown away from Beginning to the End!!

As gentle as I can manage, I pull her up the rest of the way and stand her on her dainty feet. She sways a bit. Her slender arm curling around her torso again while her gorgeous face blanches.
But fuck me if she’s not determined, and after a short minute, she rolls back her shoulders and steps toward the door. Clutching my bicep for balance.
For as horrific as the abuse is to her body and her mind, we manage to walk in amenable silence down the stairs, through the kitchen, and into the garage.
Can’t appear to be anything more than employee and employer’s trophy wife. Even though she’s so much more than that to me.
Originally, because of my promise to her father.
Now, because of her.
What a great read. You are able to get into immediately. You love Roan and Viviana but it really feels a little rushed towards the end. Also there are a couple spot unclear. Over all good book.
I really enjoyed this book. I fell in love with Roan! The way he is with Viviana… So patient and shows her nothing but love. The ending brought me to tears. I really recommend this book!
This book was a fast-paced story of what some men will do for love. Roan has been in love with Viviana for years and finally sees his chance to save her from the hell that is her life, so he frees her as only he can. Together, the two of them face Viviana’s demons and her past so she can find the woman she is meant to be. Roan shows how patient he can be for the woman he loves more than life, as well as the lengths he will go to in order to keep Viviana safe and by his side.
I really enjoyed this story of rescue, redemption, and love. The only downside is the fact that it’s all from Roan’s POV, but I didn’t feel like I was missing too much by not being inside Viviana’s head.
Viviana and Roan’s story enthralled me from page one when Roan is introduced to us. He falls in love with the abused mafia wife he is being paid to rescue. She needs him and he wants her and what follows is one of the most intense relationship I have read in a long time. This was an intense book that does have triggers for some readers.
