So like Hollywood, you’ll never figure out what is real … adventure, mystery, and romcom. So like Hollywood, you’ll never figure out what is real and what is make-believe until you reach the end.” — Laura’s Interests
#StillAWannabeDetective In continuing her career-makeover quest as a for-real detective, ex-teen and reality star Maizie Albright has a big learning curve to overcome. A sleuthing background starring in a TV show— Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective—does not cut the real life mustard. It doesn’t even buy her lunch, let alone extra condiments. Her chosen mentor, Wyatt Nash of Nash Security Solutions, is not a willing teacher. He’d rather stick Maizie with a safe desk job and handle the security solution-ing himself. But Maizie’s got other plans to help Nash.
First, win Nash’s trust. Second, his heart.
Wait, not his heart. His respect. His hearty respect.
So when a major movie producer needs a babysitter for his hot mess starlet, Maizie eagerly takes the job. But when her starlet appears dead and then not dead, Maizie’s got more than an actress to watch and a missing corpse to find. Body doubles, dead bodies, and hot bodies abound when the big screen, small screen, and silent screams collide.
Maizie’s on the job, on the skids, and on thin ice, hunting a killer who may be a celebrity stalker. And Maizie just might be the next celebrity who gets snuffed.

Confession…I love all of Larissa Reinhart’s books, but this series is my favorite and the stories keep getting better and better. I recently learned this book, 16 Millimeters, is also up for one of this year’s Silver Falchion Awards at Killer Nashville, too, and I wasn’t surprised. Truly, these books are so much fun to read, and Maizie Albright is the kind of character you want to cheer for and shake your head over the situations she gets herself into. Further complications ensue as she always multi-tasking–trying to catch the baddie, while she’s also trying to get the attention of her private detective boss. And keep from eating too many donuts. Trust me, you’ll want to set aside time to read this book, because you will not want to put it down until the end!
This review is for the audio book.
I enjoyed this book, in fact I have loved the while series so far and can’t wait for the next book. The characters are what makes it such a great series, as they are all love able but I really I loved the way Maizie draws on her acting experience to get out of difficult situations. It is such an unusual job for the main character, coming from an acting background, that the series stands out as a must listen too series and also because it’s a lot of fun. The mystery was good, with a high body count which added humour to the plot, just how many bodies can one person find? And with a number of suspects the story kept you guessing until the end. The family life also spiced up the plot, especially Maizie mothers interfering in her life. Looking forward to the next case.
Maizie wants to get out of the office and away from filing to learn how to become a private detective but when she lands her first client she gets more than she bargains for. She is hired to shadow an old acting friend and keep her out of trouble. When she discovers her dead body by peeking in her window before she even starts work Maizie does the right thing and calls her boss and the police but is at a loss to explain where the body has gone and why the starlet is waiting in the dinning room for her. What did Maizie really see? And just what was going on in the bedroom with all the cameras? Maizie feels like she has let her boss down in front of his policeman friend and sets out to find out the answers. The problem is every time she thinks she know what is going on she finds a body, its just not the missing one. Is life really this complicated? As a teenage detective Maizie usually solved each of her cases in a single episode. Or is it just because her mother wants her to come back to the acting life and keeps interfering? Can she solve the deaths and keep the starlet out of trouble?
I really like the narrator. She puts a lot of emotion into the telling that the story really comes to life with each word she speaks.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
What has Maizie got herself into this time? Maizie becomes a babysitter for a major movie producer for his trouble making starlet. Although Wyatt doesn’t want to take the job, Maizie volunteers and thus it begins. While babysitting, trouble begins and Maizie is full force into investigating. Additionally, the company is in financial trouble, and Wyatt’s ex-wife wants to sell her portion of the company. Her mother continues to hound her and now Wyatt’s ex-wife hates Maizie and threatens her all the time about going back to California and going to prison. Meanwhile, romance is starting to bud between her and Wyatt. As the murders start to increase, Maizie needs to figure out who and why this is happening. The story kept me on my toes trying to figure out the whodunit. Highly recommend this delightful, enjoyable read.
16 Millimeter is the second book in Larissa Reinhart’s Maisie Albright star detective series. Maisie Albright, former child star and currently on probation for a myriad of issues, is back in Black Pine, GA, staying with her dad (Boomer Spayberry) while she fulfills the terms of her probation. The other requirement of probation is that Maisey work under the tutelage of a licensed private investigator for two years to receive her own accreditation. That investigator just happens to be Wyatt Nash of Nash Securities.
Maisie has spent the past few weeks behind a desk working on billing and the books when a chance encounter with movie producer Leonard Shackleton brings Maisie an offer for security services to keep an eye on his star, and her childhood co-star, Cambria Johnson. Cambria has been ‘partying’ way too much, hitting the tabloids and sending the insurance for the film skyrocketing. However, on Maisie’s first day of the new contract, she comes upon what she thinks is the dead body of Cambria, a corpse that disappears, starting the whole mystery spiraling out of control. As the story evolves, Maisie and her boss, Nash, have a series of unfortunate incidents, but not as unfortunate as those they come across.
This is yet another well plotted, humorously written, Maisie Albright mystery. With endearing main characters and a lovely southern small town setting, Ms. Reinhart has again written a laugh out loud mystery that will have you guessing until the very end. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
16 Millimeters is the second book in Larissa Reinhart’s Maizie Albright series and it’s just as fun as 15 Minutes! I listened to the audio book which is narrated by Joan Dukore. She has done a terrific job bringing Maizie to life as well as the entire cast!
Maizie has been doing routine office work at Nash Security Solutions when she’s approached by Leonard Chapelton who is a movie producer looking for someone to look after his leading lady, Cambria. Maizie had worked with “Cam Cam” on Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective so she’s the perfect person to watch over her without Cam Cam knowing she’s being watched. But when Maizie shows up at the hotel room, something’s not right and the job turned into more than just babysitting. Nash gets involved so things get complicated with them. Then as things progress she’s being told she’s been seen at places where she hasn’t been and what really happened to Cambria?
If you want a fun read with suspense, a bit of romance and a lot of laughs, 16 Millimeters is the right choice!
Thank you Larissa Reinhart for the opportunity to listen to your book!
4 Star review 16 Millimeters (A Maizie Albright Star Detective Mystery) by Larissa Reinhart
Audio Review:
Both the author Larissa Reinhart and narrator Joan Dukore are relatively new to me. This was a fun book that I found entertaining. I was intrigued as I followed the clues all the while chuckling as Maizie Albright continues to follow her dream of becoming a private investigator.
Trying to get her reluctant mentor Wyatt Nash to take her seriously, Maizie is frustrated. Nash would prefer she stay behind her desk rather than to allow her to investigate out in the field, but sassy and feisty Maizie has other plans. Not only does she ant him to taker her investigating skills seriously but she wants him to really “see” her.
What happens when it appears Maizie may have become the next target for a crazed stalker? The narrator really brought this book to life for me and did a good job keeping me entertained. This was a a book filled with a fun, intrigue and suspense which kept me riveted as I listened to this story.
Loved 16 Millimeters! It’s even better than the first book. Maizie is gutsy and smart in spite of being terrified half the time. Great murder mystery, fully developed primary characters, wonderful dialogue and clean humor. What’s not to love?!
Author Larissa Reinhart continues the adventures of her captivating character Maizie Albright. The dialogue conveys wit, visuals, humor and makes a story that is impossible to turn off. I know if I’d read it rather than listened, I would still be a fan.
Maizie Albright, originally an actress starring in several roles, notably as a teenage detective, is pursuing her dream of joining the ranks as a full-fledged private investigator. Hiring on with the Black Pine’s Wyatt Nash. Nash wants to keep her at arm’s length, and her mind wanders to other things to investigate up close and personal.
Maizie’s probation requires her to avoid acting roles and stay out of trouble. The fun begins when a movie is slotted to film in Black Pine, staring an actress Maizie, Cam-Cam. Maizie’s notoriety with Nash Security Systems lands a job for the company to protect Cambria and keep her on the right track to succeed in her breakout role. Producer Leonard Shackleton insists Maizie is the one he wants handling Cambria because of her familiarity with the industry.
In pure Maizie style, the security work sets up Nash to get closer to show biz than he ever wanted. As our hero, Maizie works at her job, she finds herself at odds with Cam-Cam, Nash, and her mother, her agent.
The mystery begins as Maizie spots bodies that disappear and digs for clues until Cam-Cam wants Maizie fired but will allow Nash to take the role. It gets more thrilling as the body count increases, though inexplicably, they vanish along with the evidence. Body doubles for some actors and actresses, muddy the trail of locating the killer, and risk Maizie’s probation.
The narration by Joan DuKore is even better in book 2. The delivery of the dialogue is snappy, emphasized, and contains perfect pregnant pauses. Voices are diverse and never miss associating with the correct characters. The quality of the audible was excellent, with no issues.
Honestly, I liked book 2 even better than the first one in the series. This is a fun story that kept me engaged from start to finish. Outstanding and highly recommended. The next one in the series is on my list. Wow.
A former child/teen star turned private detective-in-training, Maizie’s a fun character. I enjoyed getting to know her. As the job reminds her of her previous career, she channels her Hollywood roles, sometimes quite humorously, to deal with difficult predicaments. The combination of romance, humor, and mystery made for an enjoyable read.
Maizie Albright is a former Hollywood child star who has returned home to Black Pines to complete a court ordered job as a Private Investigator. for Nash, who’s business is struggling. When the opportunity arises to protect a former co-star she jumps at the chance to generate some money for her boss. . When dead bodies start showing up, Maizie’s pretty sure that she’s in over her head. Maizie turns to Nash for help when she discovers body doubles, film makers and her mother involved, Nash is reluctant to get involved but he will do anything to protect Maizie. This series. And Larissa Reinhart’s other books/series.
Maizie Albright and Larissa Reinhart have done it again! Action, humor and heart tied me to this delightful mystery from beginning to end! Nash doesn’t play a really big role but OH, MY, I think I would read the books just for him. I have caught Maisie’s crush. The ex-actress just can’t keep from getting drawn into the drama around the business that has followed her to Georgia. Not only is she dying to turn her internship into active investigative time, she is drawn to help those with whom she can relate, not to mention, Nash’s business needs the big bucks and she is one of the reasons! From the time she sees what appears to be the dead body of old show mate the neophyte detective refuses to give up on uncovering the muck that is hiding under the covers of the flash of show business but she is also concerned about the person who, contrary to all appearances, she would swear was dead. Nothing is every easy for Maizie anymore but she refuses to give up. Nash is not thrilled for his agency to be drawn so close to the TV industry but he needs the money before his vengeful ex takes over the business. The warmth of Maizie’s dad’s family and the shadow of her mother’s disapproval follow Maizie throughout the novel.
I ordered a copy of 16 Millimeters but was thrilled to get to read an ARC of the book. Thanks you Ms. Reinhart! I loved it!!!
