On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King’s heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination—a thousand page tour de force.
Following his massively successful novel Under the Dome, King sweeps readers back in time to another … to another moment—a real life moment—when everything went wrong: the JFK assassination. And he introduces readers to a character who has the power to change the course of history.
Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.
Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life – a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.
A tribute to a simpler era and a devastating exercise in escalating suspense, 11/22/63 is Stephen King at his epic best.

I owned this book for a long time dreading the 800 pages I’d have to read. Finally broke down and started it. OMG, I LOVED the book! Couldn’t put it down once I started reading it! After reading the book, I purchased a DVD of the mini-series for my hubby to watch. The mini-series was a huge disappointment. Even if you are not a fan of …
One of my favorite Stephen King books
This is the most well-rounded book I’ve ever read.
Excellent story telling
One of King’s best. Even some tears at the end.
I can’t even begin to describe the genius of Stephen King. This book… I bought it on a whim. It came up in a search for something completely unrelated. I bought it and I was riveted. Many nights sleep cut WAY short finishing. Great concepts and world building with the time travel aspect of the book. So many great things happened I can’t name …
It is one of my favorite books ever.
Great book. I really liked it. It was thought provoking.
I don’t normally gravitate towards alternate history/timeline type novels but very much enjoyed this – the blending of fact and fiction and the be careful what we wish for results were not only thought-provoking but enthralling.
My favorite Stephen King book of all time.
Loved this Stephen King novel. A little bit of history mixed with science fiction.
This is my favorite Stephen King book…
This is by far one of my favorite books, not just by Stephen King, but of any author. It is gloriously fantastic! Being a history nerd, this book was simply amazing. The sorry, characters, take you on a ride that you never want to get off.
If you are looking to spend a week enjoying a book that I promise at some point will make you laugh, cry, …
It is a lengthy read. It’s worth the time commitment however. I learn a great deal
about different facts concerning certain times in the story. I like to learn history in a story.
Love this book! Great book to read if you have any interest in the assassination of JFK. Exciting time travel, great characters, good romance and lots of historical facts to boot.
Many people disagree, but I think this is one of King’s best–a return to many of the “philosophical” concerns of his early work. It’s not horror per se, but you can catch some Lovecraftian slithers in the corner of your eye.
I’ve read it four times. Fabulous book.
Time travel novel based on events of assissination of JFK on 11/22/63. Good charactercter building. A bit too long.
Historical fiction with a Stephen King twist. Perhaps my favorite of all his novels… so far, at least.
This is a different story by the King of horrori feel. It brings up real facts of the JFK assassination in a King style. Loved it, but don’t watch the mini series till you have finished. And in his fashion it shocked and awed.
