On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King’s heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination—a thousand page tour de force.
Following his massively successful novel Under the Dome, King sweeps readers back in time to another … to another moment—a real life moment—when everything went wrong: the JFK assassination. And he introduces readers to a character who has the power to change the course of history.
Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.
Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life – a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.
A tribute to a simpler era and a devastating exercise in escalating suspense, 11/22/63 is Stephen King at his epic best.

Phenomenal story from a genius writer. This is my all-time favorite of all books I’ve ever read. I got lost in this book. It was fun and thrilling and scary all at the same time. The closest thing to actually traveling back in a time machine.
I love reading King and have been reading his books for many, many years.
I can’t believe I haven’t read this book sooner.
When I first started listening to this I couldn’t get into. Wanted to give it a second chance and so glad that I didn’t give up on it. The narrator did amazing job keeping me into the book. And enjoyed all the characters. The way Stephen King wrote this book is amazing almost felt like a movie of …
I am a huge time-travel fan, and this is, without question, the most original, provocative, and well-conceived time travel novel I’ve ever read. The premise goes far beyond “well conceived” –King once again outdoes everyone, including himself.
Excellent book!
As a big Stephen King and time travel fan, I had to give this a try before it gets turned into a TV show. It’s a fab take on the time travel genre. Without wanting to give too much away, although it contains a romance subplot, it is very much not a romance. The world building of the 1950s and 1960s is superb and shows the level of research carried …
It’s a Steven King; what else can be said!
It’s been awhile since I read the book but I really liked it. I find that there are some of Stephen King’s books that I really like and this is one of them. The characters are relatable and as you read yo want to know more about them. It’s an interesting spin on an historical event!
Well-written, captivating, page turner! You really get to know the characters and you feel like you have fallen into their world. I actually cried very very hard when reading the last chapter. Books almost never make me cry.
The only negative-a bit unnecessarily long in my opinion but worth the length!
Loved it. Unputdownable.
One of my favorite King books. Intriguing concept, excellent storytelling, sayisfying ending. Great read!
One of Kings best.
It’s been mentioned many times in reviews of this book, but it is LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGG! The book mostly takes place over a five-year period and I almost felt like I spect five years reading it. That said, the beginning and final parts of the story are terrific.
The beginning moves along at a pretty good clip and introduces a clever method of time …
Stephen King at his best! Who would have ever believed there could be a happy ending to a Stephen King novel or that he would have romance? Not me. But was I in for a surprise. Loved this book!
I honestly think that this author could throw words on a page about anything and I would enjoy it simply because of how well he writes. This book gives a brief glimpse into what it would be like to have the power to travel through time, even if it was only to one specific date.
Would you make changes to fix the world? Use your knowledge to get …
My favorite Stephen King book. I recommend to anyone I discuss books with.
LOVED IT, Mind boggling. Liked the ending.
One of my favorite Stephen King books!
A very different idea- completely original!
Never expected the way it ended. A good book that will keep you on the edge of your seat even if you think you know the ending. Haha
