On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King’s heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination—a thousand page tour de force.
Following his massively successful novel Under the Dome, King sweeps readers back in time to another … to another moment—a real life moment—when everything went wrong: the JFK assassination. And he introduces readers to a character who has the power to change the course of history.
Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.
Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life – a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.
A tribute to a simpler era and a devastating exercise in escalating suspense, 11/22/63 is Stephen King at his epic best.

I listened to this book and hated when I had to turn it off. I even missed a turn while driving and listening. Very riveting. Loved it. Recommended to friends and they loved it too.
As an author, I usually unconsciously decompose a book to see why it works. When I picked up this book, all that went out the window. I couldn’t wait to see what was next and I was utterly immersed in 11/22/63. Unlike some of King’s stuff, it wasn’t creepy, but it created a tension about the unknown aspects of time travel that lasted the entire …
One of the best books I’ve ever read! I felt transported to another time. It was so real.
Could have been 1/2 the length. Very repetitive.
This book hooked me from the first page to the last page. It isn’t my typical read, but I do love time travel. On a friend’s recommendation I picked it up, and I was not disappointed. It’s a what-if roller coaster that you will not want to put down.
I had purchased this ebook 8 years ago when it came out, but put off reading it because it didn’t fit into what i deemed a typical Stephen King novel. Boy, my mistake! This is now one of my favorites! There isn’t a dull moment in this 849 page book which I just could not put down! Plus a cameo by a couple characters from IT was the icing on this …
My absolute favorite book of all-time! Stephen King hits it out of the park again with this amazing book!
11/22/63 is a book about a person of today’s world falling in love with the world of the late 1950s and early 1960’s. Stephen King has a couple devices he brings back masterfully to remind us that many things are worse back then, too.
To avoid adding any spoilers I will say this – give this book a try even if you don’t like Stephen King. It’s …
No one can tell a story like Stephen King, and this one is his very best. I would give anything to be able to experience it again for the first time.
I didn’t know what to expect when I read it, but I’m glad I did.
Page turner!!!!!!
First Steven King novel I have tackled in a long time. This has been on my list but put it off. When I discovered it is a series on Hulu I decided I owed it to myself to check it out. I am glad I did! Love that Stephen King incorporated romance and suspense into a novel. This book will be a great inspiration for my writings. Highly recommend it!
This book is the “what if” from my youth. JFK assassination was earth shaking when I was a kid as it must have been for SK.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Couldn’t put it down.
I would like to state here and now that I’m not a Stephen King fan because I can’t read horror.
However, this book is a time travel tale and not classed as horror at all. It is a brilliantly written book, believable at all times. I love the time paradoxes and the intrigue around JFK’s death.
If you haven’t read it yet, you need to! It is an …
I loved this book. Seriously, I think this is one of the ten best books I’ve ever read. I really enjoyed the premise, and Stephen King is a master story teller. It is a very long book and frankly, it bogs down slightly – but only slightly – in the middle. I didn’t anticipate the ending. It’s always major challenge to create an ending that …
No wonder Stephen King is called the Master! What a terrific book!
I would have loved to be able to read it in one sitting, but 867 pages! It is a doorstopper, it might have been made a little shorter, but I really didn’t mind. Stephen King is such an amazing storyteller that I followed where he was taking me.
Mr. King’s research is beyond …
King at his best.
I absolutely LOVE this book
A great read
