On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Stephen King’s heart-stoppingly dramatic new novel is about a man who travels back in time to prevent the JFK assassination—a thousand page tour de force.
Following his massively successful novel Under the Dome, King sweeps readers back in time to another … to another moment—a real life moment—when everything went wrong: the JFK assassination. And he introduces readers to a character who has the power to change the course of history.
Jake Epping is a thirty-five-year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer. Harry escaped with a smashed leg, as evidenced by his crooked walk.
Not much later, Jake’s friend Al, who runs the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to 1958. He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake’s new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake’s life – a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time.
A tribute to a simpler era and a devastating exercise in escalating suspense, 11/22/63 is Stephen King at his epic best.

I know this is an older book, but definitely (in my opinion) Stephen King’s best. Maybe because I was a young adult at that time, voting for the first time. I have not always liked King’s books but this one is definitely one of my favorites. It drew me into the fantasy of what the world would be like had Kennedy not been assassinated. I’m reading …
Would have liked to see more dates
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have been a fan of Stephen King for many years and loved this departure from his usual stuff. This novel is full of researched information surrounding the events leading to the JFK assassination (I have read lots on the JFK assassination and use to live in the DFW area – everything was spot on). King provides many …
Another great book. Hard to put down. The action starts right away and doesn’t let up until the very end!
Great book from the start…kept you thinking and wondering how it would unfold.
Not much of a history or Stephen King person but there is just something about this book. Just the thought of going back in time. If you could go back in time what would you change, what would that change? Great and Thought Provoking!!

While a talented author seduces readers, Stephen King grabs his by the throat, holds them hostage, and effectively hypnotizes his audience through 876 pages. Not an easy task.
Not surprisingly, would you save JFK from assassination? is the premise for 11/22/63. To King’s protagonist, Jake Epping, who travels from a 2011 wormhole into 1958, it’s …
I throughly enjoyed this book. It’s not what you think it is by looking at the cover. The best book Stephen King ever wrote.
One of Stephen King’s best
It’s been so long since I’ve read this book, but had a conversation with a friend recently about it. This is by far the most surprising book of King’s I’ve read. I went in with one expectation and had it ripped to shreds- in a fantastic way.
Not only does this book explore the concept of time travel through an unlikely door, but there is the most …
One of my favorite books by Mr. King!
Great book
Great idea for a book, and perfectly executed by Stephen King. A great example of the Butterfly Effect.
Why the hell did I wait so long to read this?! Harkens back to King’s best works, and turns the dial up to 11. Reminds me why he’s still and will remain one of my favorite authors. Builds a world, gives you beautiful and realistic characters to explore that world with, and brings you on a journey that only Mr. King can take you on. Incredible.
Such a strange novel for King. The romance is so awesome. Completely out of control. Characters to fall for. I fell for this story.
Not a typical Stephen King book. Back when JFK was murdered in Dallas, a man attempts to prevent the tragedy in the 1st place! Interesting time travel & not too sci-fi; not a typical Stephen King book
I’m rarely disappointed by anything Stephen King writes, but this one is my favourite. I loved the twists and turns. 11/22/63 is a story that entertains as well as forcing the reader to imagine just how history could be mightily affected by seemingly small events.
I also love the fact that, despite 11/22/63 not being a horror story, he couldn’t …
Wow! What a hard way to rap my head around such a significant piece of history. Time travel in and of itself is an interesting concept, but to think about how the story worked and the warnings and the way things changed through history off of one small step is amazing. Loved, loved the ending.
I liked Stephen King’s writing before, but this was …
Really different twist on the Kennedy assassination, but that’s not the key to the book, the key is the relationship between the character’s which is so wonderfully rendered. In line with that is the time travel element and the impacts on the future when the past is changed. Great book, and would wholeheartedly recommend.
