This book is part of A Tanglewood series but can be read as standalone. It is Anders & Natalie’s story. This grabbed a hold of me from the start of the book and never let go. It’s dark, twisted, sensual, emotional, and suspenseful with twists and turns you won’t see coming. My mind was blown at times & my jaw hit the floor. I was so immersed and invested in this story. The plot is one hundred percent addicting. Skye Warren did an excellent job of weaving Natalie and Anders love story. I loved seeing characters from previous books. They are wonderful and add so much more to the story. I can’t get enough of the characters from Tanglewood.
This novella has all of the feels. It is a MUST-READ!! Congrats Skye Warren on writing another hit!

The Bishop – A Tanglewood Novella – Skye Warren
After I read a Skye Warren story I need some time to come down. I need to think about what I read, who was in the story. Did the light win in this story? Did it beat the darkness that surrounds parts of Tanglewood?
Anders Sorenson has appeared in several other books and I don’t think anyone really knew how deep his character was. How dark he could become, how darkness had followed him for such a long time. Until now in The Bishop, this is his story.
Chess has played a part in several of Skye Tanglewood books, Chess it is a deep game, a dark game where sometimes people are destroyed. In The Bishop it is that particular chess piece that gives this story life. We find out Anders background, what happened to take him into the darkness and how he wants to try to bring back some of the light. He is hoping to trap the person who has the matching Bishop. He is hoping to catch the person who beat and raped his mother and stole the matching very expensive rare Bishop. Anders owns the other half of the pair and Anders has put his Bishop in an auction as part of his trap to find the person who caused his darkness.
Natalie Lhuirs, approaches Anders while he is looking at some of the art up for auction. They discuss several paintings and Anders develops a interest in Natalie. He has to leave abruptly do deliver a baby in a poorer part of town. You see Anders is a Doctor, part of his darkness is eased helping those who need help be they good or bad without involving hospitals or police.
That night the Bishop disappears from its case, gone, but how? by whom? It turns out Natalie was the thief. Anders goes looking for her and finds her in the alley behind a seedy hotel beaten, cut, delirious and almost unconscious. Who did this and where is the Bishop? In an effort to get the information he needs from Natalie he takes her to the home of friends (Avery & Gabriel) to take care of not just her wounds but to take care of her, to protect her where he realizes she had stolen the piece not for herself but for someone else. She is the only one who can help him find the person who made her steal it.
He and Natalie weave their ways around each other, he treating her wounds hoping she will trust him, she slowly trusting him and once she finds out why he is looking for it she knows she needs to help him. Natalie slips out of the house, with Anders and Gabriel following her back to the scene of the crime. Will she tell him who forced her to steal the Bishop? Now that Anders has developed feelings for her will he still protect her? Will they both be able to move out of the darkness and into the light and be happy?
I can’t tell you, I can only say that once again Skye Warren has woven a tale of dark and light and love.
This is so beautiful!
A chilling prologue sets a bleak and poetic tone for this beautifully melancholic story where art and mystery mingle to bind the couple.
Piece by piece, the characters emerge to ensnare the reader’s avid need for a connection. The seller of a chess piece and the mysterious woman couldn’t appear more riveting than with that first laden conversation.
This author excels at crafting tragic circumstances for the hero and heroine, and in this case it is a stolen chess bishop that throws their sorrows into stark relief while sparking a dark sensuality between them. The interactions are so alluring. Danger and desire permeate those days they spend together, and there is a wet scene that OMG.
Both Anders and Natalie hide secrets that have scarred them, and they might stand on enemy sides of the chess board but they share such intriguing dialogues and such mesmerizing chemistry that their whole lives are changed. I loved seeing the couples from other books in the Tanglewood universe, they are powerfully present here. I loved Ander’s passion which is primitive and animalistic, yet he is also touchingly caring and romantic with Natalie. And she is a brave woman, so brave.
What a magnetic story about redemption and finding love despite all the pain. And written with such fascinating sensitivity. I wish these stories never ended.
This was incredible I loved Anders I’m so glad he got his story as we follow his icy heart on his journey of revenge and redemption for his family when Natalie a strong fierce woman enters his world. The chemistry these two have is all the things and just jump off the pages.
Filled with deceipt, lies, heartache I could not put this down the writing is amazing and so perfect I loved it oh and seeing all the previous characters was a huge bonus that is so exciting revisiting Tanglewood.
The Bishop
The Bishop is set in the Tanglewood world and follows Anders on his quest for revenge and redemption. His plans, however, are thwarted by the beautiful and broken Nathalie.
Anders is dark and brooding and oh so inherently good. Nathalie is desperate and scared and in need of a saviour. The two must navigate a whole ocean of regrets and shady pasts before they can move forward.
Some of our most loved characters make appearances, which is always a real treat and to hear their point of view is even better. Reading Bishop felt like coming home and I absolutely loved this incredible novella!
I love Skye’s writing! Def not one to miss!
True and utter perfection!
Incredible! I love this series and hoped Anders would get his own story! And what a story it is! Anders is a doctor and helps those less unfortunate but also has a dark side. He wants revenge from something that happened to his family. So he sets out a trap and that is when he meets Natalie. A young woman needing to take care of something that could get her killed. When Anders inadvertently helps her, you just know that she had to be the one to melt his icy heart. These two have such incredible chemistry, the steam comes right off the pages! I loved this so much that I read it in one sitting! Absolute perfection!
I love Skye Warren stories but I don’t think I have read anything in the Tanglewood series yet but I was sucked in this one. It can be read as a standalone and it’s a great story to get new readers into the author and the series. I will be picking up the others now. Anders and Natalie are complicated but everything!
THE BISHOP by Skye Warren gives us the story of Anders and Natalie. But in addition to that we get to meet up with Damon and Penny from the ‘Masterpiece Duet’ along with Gabriel and Avery from the ‘Endgame’ series. With that said this is totally a standalone book but just wanted to you to know about the previous characters if like me you like to catch up with them. Anders is a Dr who is selling a family heirloom at a auction but then the Bishop is stolen. This leads him to Natalie who was the mysterious women at the auction showing. When he finds her she is almost dead and of course he is a Dr who takes her home to care for her. Anders plan of finding out what she did with the Bishop but his feeling are growing for her.
Love this quick read.
A cold heart. A clever soul. A romance that’s shrouded in mystery. Never one for subtlety, Skye Warren proceeds full throttle with Natalie and Anders. The Bishop is an addictive glance at love from all angles. What should be simple proceeds to become a mass of contradictions. Warren’s characters seep into your blood before you even realize it and captivate your soul. A smartly written, dangerously seductive, heartaching tangle of emotion.
Checkmate
This was such a sweet romance
The cast is from the Tanglewood series but this can easily be read as a standalone and you won’t be lost. You may want to read the series though. A great cast that is easy to connect with.
Anders has always been a bit broody (?) now we know why.
He followed in his parents’ footsteps and took up medicine. Taking care of those who are unable to seek proper help.
His life is on course to accomplish his greatest desire ( I can’t tell you!). His goals are within his grasp, that is until a sexy slip of a woman challenges all his instincts and pulls his eyes from the board. Just for a moment. Seems that moment was all she needed to change the rules.
Natalie has her own dreams she is following – and secrets she must protect
Life for her is a bit abstract, like her favorite works of art
It is meant to be interpreted by the eye of the beholder
This time Natalie sees something a little different and chooses to act on it
A decision that may cost her everything.
Can Anders make peace with the past?
Can Natalie find it in herself to believe?
Love the 1001 series each book is a window into a world of adventure and romance
A unique collection of short stories that introduce the reader to various authors and their work
Anders is a doctor and selling a bishop piece family heirloom at an auction. He meets Natalie there and she is injured so he takes her home to care for her. Anders is determined to find out where Natalie put the bishop. Natalie has a dark mysterious past. Will the two end up in love or fighting for their lives? A short read with a good plot line and an interesting read.
Gah!! I have loved Skye Warren’s books for a long time. My love of her writing started with her dark stories and honestly led to encompass her later works. But her stories set in Tanglewood have my complete heart. Gabriel and Avery, Damon and Penny: The true originators of her Tanglewood stories, in my opinion, are nothing short of magnificent. For that reason I was SO excited for The Bishop as I needed to return to that world and those familiar characters. And the result? Pure Perfection. I am obsessed with Anders and Natalie and voraciously ate up every word of their story. I loved their chemistry and connection and never wanted this story to end!
This story had thrilling intrigue, heat, revenge and ultimately had heart. I loved Anders dedication to truth and the human condition but loved his pull towards Natalie more. He had every reason to hate her but in the end his feelings for her won out. This story was so perfect and I seriously wished it was a full length book. The storytelling, characters and prose were beautiful and another reason why I love Warren’s books. 5 stars! ~Ratula
THE BISHOP by Skye Warren is Anders and Natalie’s story in the Tanglewood series. This is a novella but comes across as much more. The prologue sets up the stage to Anders and Natalie’s dark and angsty romance. It’s full of romance, secrets, intrigue, passion, dramatic and sensual tales. There is danger and desire that vie for top level of feels which all leads to finding out what happens to the Bishop and can Anders and Natalie get their HEA ? Get ready for a phenomenal and exciting story!!!!
My Rating: 4.7 stars ********
I had always wondered if Skye was going to give Anders his own book. Well now she did and it was so good the only thing I didn’t like was I felt like it was rushed a little towards the end. I would have liked to seen a face off against the villain a little more.
Anders is selling off his famous pawn but before he can be auctioned off it get’s stolen. Anders know’s who it was and sets off to go find that person and get his pawn back. When he tracks them down he is shocked at what he finds.
Can Anders get his pawn back and get revenge for what happened to his mother or will the pawn be lost forever?
The Bishop is such a great story in true Skye Warren fashion!
Anders is a doctor, trained to help and heal people, but he uses his talents to aid people who might not otherwise have a chance.
He meets Natalie at an auction where he has placed his rare and precious 900 year old Bishop chess piece up for auction.
Skye Warren writes beautiful stories, with complicated characters. She develops those characters painstakingly and with such detail that the reader believes they know them personally.
The Tanglewood stories are so entertaining and wonderful stories!
Mystery, murder and intrigue continues on in city of Tanglewood. The focus is on Anders the doctor friend of Damon and Gabriel whom we first met in the previous books of this series. The Bishop involves Anders, a woman and a missing expensive chess piece. The book is short, fast paced and very enjoyable. The Bishop is a stand-alone story.
Review copy was received for a honest opinion.
“Trauma doesn’t always break the skin, but it always leaves a scar.”
Anders has been an enigmatic character in previous books set in this world. Is he good? Is he bad? What is his story? Well, we finally get his story, and he is everything we could have thought he was, and more. More for Natalie that is
“Anders isn’t an ordinary doctor. He’s my captor and my savior.”
Natalie, at first glance, seems together, but she is just as scarred on the inside as Anders. Both have their secrets, and when they open up to each other, it becomes apparent how much they have in common, how connected they really are to each other
Anders did not disappoint, and Natalie is perfect for him. Loved it!
I love all the Tanglewood novels and am so glad Anders got to tell his story. This is a powerful and deep story that is full of darkness and sorrow, but it is also full of love; the powerful and abiding love between Gabriel and Avery, the explosive love of Damon and Penny and the growing love between Anders and Natalie. The Bishop is not what it seems and the undercurrents are mesmerizing, pulling the reader into the world of Tanglewood, at times confusing, at times sensuous but ultimately an incredible read.
Anders is a doctor who is friends with both Damon and Gabriel. He has decided to have Damon auction off a family heirloom, but it is for the answers it will bring rather than the financial wealth. Natalie has a mission to complete that puts her on the opposite side from Anders not because she wants to but because it is a matter of necessity.
When Anders ends up coming to Natalie’s rescue he isn’t about to let her go as he wants the heirloom and the truth but the more time they spend together the closer they become. Will he realize that love is more important than revenge?
I really enjoyed Natalie and Anders together and for a novella the storyline and characters were well developed. As a bonus we get to catch up with characters we know and love in Tanglewood.
