From NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Josie LittonThis is a very naughty story! Some no doubt would go further and call it a good deal worse. Set in the present day, it depicts a fantasy world inspired by Jane Austen (abject apologies to that dear lady). Instead of vanishing into the mists of literary history, here Miss Austen’s England has endured in all its romantic glory into modern … endured in all its romantic glory into modern times but with some decidedly unintended consequences. Among these is the existence of a ruling class of men whom centuries of power and wealth have accustomed to indulging their appetites and having their own way without restraint.
TEMPTING GEMMA is purely–impurely might be more correct–a work of escapist entertainment. It is intended as a secret, even guilty pleasure to be indulged in privately, perhaps with a nice glass of wine or the beverage of your choice. I hope that you will find it both arousing and amusing. Proceed at your own discretion.more
Gemma, having attended The Mary Magdalene School for Young Females, has been trained to be the perfect wife for Charles Ardsley. However, their wedding day certainly sets the tone for what life with Charles and his family will amount to. Perhaps.
This is a short erotic story that showcases Gemma and Charles’ marriage and most importantly, their marriage bed…or wherever else Charles deems to take her. It is full of BDSM antics including public displays and humiliation. While I am not a fan of BDSM, I found myself enjoying it in His Lordship’s Downfall and was curious enough to begin this series as well.
Written much in the style of Anais Nin (I stumbled along one of her books years ago and was aghast at what I read but to this day can’t forget it!) this story highlights the ordinariness of bondage and discipline in this place and time. J.L. does an excellent job of making the reader accept this is all very acceptable behavior even while feeling some repulsion at Gemma’s treatment. The fact that she appears to be accepting of it brushes the uncomfortableness of it away. However, I do wonder if Gemma will remain docile or will one day take a stand.
While this does not end in a traditional cliffhanger, Gemma’s story is far from over and will continue in book 2.
Erotic Fantasy at its best
Josie Litton pulls out all the stops in this remarkably imaginative tale of a young woman who marries Charles George Bonville, Marquess of Ardsley, a British lord “possessed of inexhaustible virility” and ravages poor Gemma wherever and whenever he pleases, regardless who is present.
I love the author’s warnings: It’s a fun, flirty fantasy of sex, love and happily ever after. So expect to exercise those brows because you will undoubtedly be lifting them in surprise and hilarity over the debauchery to be had. You’ll love Gemma’s first adventure in the historical feel of a naughty, filthy Austen novel.
This was an interesting read, set in a historical setting but still has a bit of a modern feel. It has kept my interest enough that I want to know what will happen next so I will be reading book 2
I was provided an ARC of this book and this is my honest review……
Naughty Josie! Let’s see if Gemma learned her lessons well at the Mary Magdalene School for Young Females! This is a crazy, sexy, fast paced really naughty romp through the beginning of Charles and Gemma’s unconventional marriage. Fun read!
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I seriously love Litton’s blurbs! I was cracking up right from the start. This series is set in the same time frame as His Lordship’s Downfall. So it’s not nice, it’s not sweet, it’s not romantic. It’s raw, dirty, hot, and very much on display for everyone to watch and see. This first book of her newest series is a tease, it’s going to get you hot and bothered and wanting more. I loved every bit of it that there was! I just wish there was a bit more to this first book!
Poor, poor Gemma! When she’s forced into marrying The Most Honorable Charles George David Bonville, Marquess of Ardsley, her life takes on a twisted turn of carnal, erotic delights and punishments she was never in her wildest dreams (nightmares) expecting.
The fantastical world of a present day England that “has endured in all its unfettered glory into modern times with some decidedly unintended consequences. Among these is the existence of a ruling class of men whom centuries of power and wealth have accustomed to indulging their appetites and having their own way without restraint.” Josie Litton has created here is one that any reasonable woman of this modern age will be really frustrated with, will probably hate, as I do; but as in His Lordship’s Downfall, I suspect Gemma and perhaps female kind in general, will prevail in the end.
