It’s not fair. Titled rakes can practically get away with murder, but one tiny little misstep and a debutante is sent away to the country. Which is where Lady Natalie Spencer is stuck after jilting her betrothed. Frustrated with her banishment, she’s finished being a good girl and ready to be a little naughty. Luckily she has brothers, one of whom has brought home his delightfully gorgeous … friend. After recently inheriting an earldom, Garrett Castleton is determined to turn over a new leaf and shed the roguish lifestyle he adopted years ago. His friend’s sister, no matter how enticing, is out-of-bounds. He has a run-down estate to manage and tenants to save from destitution. Can love find a compromise between the two, or will their stubbornness get them into even more trouble?

Garrett Castleton (Earl of Hawthorne) is old enough to be know better than to tangle with the debutantes of the ton.
Lady Natalie Spencer is young enough not to know any better than to tangle with a rake.
The trouble and antics that Lady Natalie Spencer falls into is just down right frightful at times. Garrett Castleton will have his hand full trying to protect her from the ton and himself. Can Lady Natalie’s love for life and Garrett survive? Can she fight for the both of them?
I loved this story and these two characters! If you love historical romance – this is the series for you!
This is a delightful story about two people who were not supposed to fall for each other. Lady Natalie has recently broken her engagement to a duke and as a result her parents are less than happy with her. In an effort to save her reputation they have sent her to their country estate to let some time pass and hope that society moves on to another “little scandal”.
While staying out of sight with her colorful family, Natalie’s brother brings his friend, an earl, Lord Garrett, along to the estate. Garrett has quite a rakish reputation and to make matters worse, his father was a madman!
Is Garrett as mad as his father? Natalie certainly knows he is attractive, wild, and stubborn, but hopefully not crazy. This is because Natalie can’t seem to keep herself away from him, after all, if she were a man, she could behave as she pleased, it’s just not fair!
This is the first book I have read by this author and I will definitely be reading more, as I really enjoyed this. I highly recommend this book to readers of historical romance who enjoy witty repartee, a bit a mystery, and a host of entertaining characters with their hea.
Another lovely story by Ms. Anders. I read the first book and was looking forward to Natalie and Garrett’s story. Both of the main characters are sticklers, kind of, for propriety and that causes frustration, misunderstandings, and lust. I love how these characters find their way to a happily ever after even though about 75% through you are not sure they can overcome their selflessness (almost to their detriment). I know, selflessness sounds like a good thing, but in this story it is not. They deserve to be happy and to hell with what others think. I loved both Natalie and Garrett.
The Duke of Montford and Abigail are next. We get a hint of their story in this book.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
This is the second book in this series and I absolutely loved it. I am loving Annabella more and more with each book. I loved the characters and the backstory of Garret was very sad and tragic. My heart broke for him. I loved Natalie from the very beginning, I rooted for her from the very beginning. The chemistry between these two was just awesome. This is one of those books that leaves you with a book hangover and you just have to go back and reread. There was one point I was full on ugly crying. I loved the poetry. This is a must read if you love historical romance.
The more I read Annabelle Anders’s books, the bigger fan I am becoming. A Lady’s Prerogative is the 2nd book in Lord Loves a Lady series and I am hoping this series will never end! I know that it is just wishful thinking however, this book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read Nobody’s Lady to really understand why Garrett Castleton, Earl of Hawthorn is the way he his. Annabelle has an amazing writing talent that just draws you into her book from the first page to the very last page. The descriptions are so clear and vivid that you really feel like you are back in 1824 England. This story is so original and delightful that I could not put this book down. Oh and the charters are just wonderful, Lady Natalie Spencer is a favorite of mine! This story has a broken engagement, kindness so true that they put some else before themselves, friendships, arranged marriage, possible madness, misunderstandings, unexpected guesses, deception, a new growing friendship, trust, brotherly love, misjudgment in character, scandal, disapproval, evil but is there love? You will just have to read this story to find out! I highly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed! Bravo Annabelle Anders Bravo!
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I really loved Natalie (who we met in the previous book, “Nobody’s Lady”) and really despised Garrett at the beginning of this book. Thankfully, Garrett redeemed himself quickly! I find it sad that not that long ago (and really, to some extent today, although not as extreme as this), women were ostracized for such “horrors” as breaking betrothals…so I love that Natalie got her happy ending regardless of all the obstacles in her way!
Tip: check out the author’s website, in her “Bonus Materials” section, for a few extra pages on Natalie and Garrett’s happily ever after 🙂
I absolutely loved the first book in this series & Book 2 was just as good. Annabelle Anders has such a gift for making the characters so real & I felt their humor, sorrow, anger, love & passion throughout the story. I would recommend you read this series in order but they can easily be read as a stand alone.
Lady Natalie Spencer, daughter of the Earl of Ravensdale, is a diamond of the first water in her season until she made one mistake & now she has been taken to the country to avoid more scandal. She had broken her engagement to the Duke of Cortland & society does not treat you kindly.
Natalie’s brother, Stone brings his friend, the newly titled Earl of Hawthorne, Garrett Castleton home for a few days. Garrett’s mother had died giving birth to him & his father was mean & not always in his right mind. Now Garrett was on his way to the estate he grew up at to help rebuild it after his father set fire to it & to help the many tenants that his father had ignored.
The relationship that built between the damaged hero, who has somewhat of a rakish reputation & has been scorned by society as being the son of a madman & the strong, feisty & confident lady who knows what she wants & then goes after him.
This was a wonderful & touching love story with a great story created by Annabelle Anders – I highly recommend it & I know you will love it too!
Starring Lady Natalie Spencer and Garrett Castleton, Earl of Hawthorn.
Oh goodness, Natalie and Garett had a lot of baggage piled on them before they even officially met. Garret is neck deep in a scandal created by his late father. Natalie’s is in the same boat after jilting a duke. Does two scandals make a right? How about a third? Trouble certainly does follow these two lovebirds.
I love Garrett. He’s a little bit standoffish at first, but he did have a lot to overcome. He fights off his attraction for Natalie because he doesn’t want her to be compromised and tied down to a madman, like his father. But his feelings for Natalie can not be denied and soon realizes that he should be running towards her instead of away… because basking in her love is his salvation.
Natalie is a wonderful minxy heroine. She knows what she wants and fights for what she believes in… and she definitely believes in Garrett. She just has to prove to him that together they can weather any storm that society throws throws their way… with a little help from her very supportive family and friends.
These two had me smiling a lot. Their road to HEA was very sweet. I did laugh out loud… and the footsie scene gave me all the feels, just coz I loved how bold Natalie was. I totally enjoyed this story.
I did cry in some parts of this book, but it’s the bonus epilogue that actually made me ugly cry AF. Was such a sweet moment. Loved it!!
This is the second book in the LORD LOVE A LADY series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. I’ve already read a few books in the series and loved them all. It’s fun being in Annabelle Anders’s world with all these fabulous characters. She is firmly on my keeper shelf.
My star rating: 5 stars
Ugly cry achieved!! Characters and storyline were amazing. Made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will be re-reading this story over and over and over again!!
A Lady’s Prerogative” by Annabelle Anders 2018 (Lord Love a Lady #2)
I wanted to find out what happened to Natalie Spencer after she broke off the engagement to the Duke of Cortland. This is her story.
Breaking an engagement one week before the wedding was BAD TON. Breaking off an engagement to a Duke…very, very BAD TON.
Well now she had to pay the price and was sent to the country. it was going to be very boring until her brother Stone invited his friend, Garrett Castleton, the new Earl of Hawthorn for a visit.. He was known as a notorious rake.
Natalie wanted to enjoy and experience life and Garrett looked like just the place to start but she didn’t realize he was turning over a new leaf and he had decided that Natalie was out- of -bounds to him.
Jump in and enjoy Natalie and Garrett’s journey to true love. Isn’t the cover delicious!
Happy Reading! ReadingGenie
Great book again by Annabelle Anders!
This was the second installment in the Lord Love a Lady series, and it was a quite a fun read! I really liked Natalie in the first book, so I was glad to see that she would be the heroine in this second story. (If you didn’t read the first one, never fear; this one can totally stand alone on its own. But you’ll enjoy this one even more if you do read it!)
Natalie was recovering from jilting a duke, and her parents banished her to their country home to avoid the gossip. Her mother hosted a house party, and there Natalie met Garrett again, a friend of her brother Stone. They had met previously and it didn’t go very well. Though he was an earl, Garrett was not much accepted by the ton, as his father was a madman and a murderer. That didn’t exactly endear him to society, though his parentage was certainly no fault of his own.
Sparks fly between the two, though Garrett tries to fight it. It’s hard to fight against Natalie, though! She knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to experience life. Garrett didn’t want her to get hurt, which she surely would be if she was with him. The more the story progressed, the more it seemed that things would end in disaster for both. of them. But stick with it, as Ms. Anders does not disappoint! (And a little fella by the name of Baby Bear will give you the warm fuzzies.)
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
A Lady’s Prerogative by Annabelle Anders is book Two in the Lord Love a Lady series. This is the story of Natalie Spencer and Garrett Castleton. I have read the previous book and we do meet Natalie there, but I feel this is easily a standalone book.
Natalie story was a much wanted and a job to read….loved that character. Natalie was strong and was unable with how things were not fair between the men and the ladies..but she was caring too. Garrett has just inherited a title along with an estate in need of a lot of care.
Garrett has been a rake but he was so much more and your heart went out to him. Natalie and Garrett were what they both needed in the end.
Really enjoyed their story!
There are a few authors who I will read without knowing what the book is about. Annabelle Anders is one of those. She has out done herself again with A Lady’s Prerogative. This one is about Lady Natalie, we met her in the last book when she broke her betrothal. In this one she meets Garrett Castleton , Earl Of Hawthorne. Now mind you she has met him before but she “meets” him again. Her Brother Stone is friends with him and invites him to the country house for a house party. After just losing his hateful father the last thing he is looking for is an attachment. When Natalie almost drowns trying to save baby bear and Garrett has to save her. Well you will have to read the book to find out what happens. Suffice it to say this is a book that will keep you turning pages and the excitement never lets up. The characters are likeable well most are. The story line is well thought out and I loved it.
It’s no secret that historical romances really aren’t my thing, but there is just something about Annabelle Anders writing and stories that really pull me in, making this series one I will go back to time and time again.
I think what I like most about this series so far is that it is a story that spans a couple books, yet the reader is able to pick up one without reading the other.
A Lady’s Prerogative is definitely a slow burn and readers who enjoy their stories to be a little more PG will definitely find this story to be one they can enjoy.
This story will pull at your heart strings a little bit. Both Natalie and Garrett are suffering with feelings of insecurities? Garrett due to his father and his actions and Natalie because she is newly single and being hidden away from society. Slowly they begin to build a friendship and an attraction to each other despite Natalie’s families wishes.
Reading time for this story was a little over 5 hours. It was easy to get back in to when I was forced to put it down. While I did have to put it down, I found myself thinking about it and itching to get back to it. I could easily see myself binge reading this story had the circumstances been right.
Looking forward to whatever Miss Annabelle comes up with next. There are definitely some options and it looks like we could be reading about this family and group of friends for a while.
I am giving A Lady’s Prerogative 4 stars!
Being totally elated by the first book in this series, I highly anticipated this second. Can I say “wow”, I was not disappointed! There are just too many adjectives I could use to describe this book. Ann takes pen to paper and wraps me into a romantic time I can never get enough of.. We were left at the end of the last book with a secondary character, Lady Natalie, leaving a Duke at the alter. We begin with her being disgraced and sent to the country with her family away from the Ton (you know, those sometimes judgmental high society that have a long memory?). But Natalie is truly an amazing young lady. She jilted the Duke so he could marry the one he truly loved and had no qualms about it.. So we pick up with Natalie with her family and her brother Stone’s friend, Garrett Castleton who was invited to take some rest from his problems. Of course sparks seem to fly between the two and Garrett is determined to stay away. I mean, this is his good friend’s sister and he is trying to focus on straightening himself up and pulling his life together to take the Earldom. But there is nothing like a determined whirlwind who is both beautiful and intelligent. There are some heartwarming scenes and the humor to be found just will bring a smile to your face. But there is also a lot of strong emotions that will grab your heart and make you sigh. I cannot say enough about this story, while greatly anticipating the next book (there are so many characters I hope will get their HEA I cannot wait!!)
A heart-melting Earl with a heartbreaking story meets his match with a lady rake that is just what he needs! I was so happy to Natalie get her own story and she does not disappoint. They are like to halves to a whole heart from the start even though you wouldn’t think so by the way they act at first. I loved getting to know both of them and uncovering their own stories as they did with each other. They came from two very different upbringings, but both had scandals that put them at risk. I was holding my breath wishing for a certain twist and wanted to jump up down when it appeared. I did not see the twist of what happened with the trunk coming and was worried for a bit. I laughed when it came to her mother and godmother coming up with a plan. The ending was perfect and I hope to see her brothers again.
Natalie did what she had to so that two people that truly loved each other could be happy. She just didn’t expect the rules and lectures that followed. I loved her right away and especially as soon as she decided to take control and be free. She never shied away from anything and really understood him more than anyone.
Garrett is free from his father, but not the scandal that surrounded him. He broke my heart with his fears and reasons for not wanting to marry. But he also was heart-melting with how he listened to her and asked the questions that no one else did. When he discovered the truth it was like a weight off of his shoulders and he had the support he needed.
It’s not fair. Titled rakes can practically get away with murder, but one tiny little misstep and a debutante is sent away to the country. Which is where Lady Natalie Spencer is stuck after jilting her betrothed the Duke of Copeland. After recently inheriting an earldom, Garrett Castleton is determined to turn over a new leaf and shed the roguish lifestyle he adopted years ago.
WOW I thought the first in the series Nobody’s Lady was brilliant but this book is even better. The characterisations are very, very good. The secondary characters were also well fleshed, Marcus & Little Bear were delightful The story flows effortlessly. I was hoping Natalie would have her HEA & hope her three brothers have theirs too especially Stone. A truly lovely read which I highly recommend
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
