I can’t believe I forgot to tell you guys about this one! (Though, I’ve read an early copy of book 2 and like it even more than book 1.)
“A witch’s mission to find her sister’s killer leads to otherworldly dangers.”
As the blurb promises, this definitely has an early Sookie Stackhouse/Midnight, Texas vibe with it’s small town paranormal romance. The novel has a light, humorous tone to balance out the darker events that take place. I’d say it’s sort of a cozy paranormal mystery, which is not something I usually read, but I really enjoyed this one!
(But I still liked book 2 more!)
So much happens to Hazel, the fire-born witch heroine of Ava Silvers’ A Vampire in Disguise (Creatures of the Midwest Book 1), that you’d think it would be hard to track along. Happily this book is so well written that it’s no problem to both follow along and addictively enjoy. It’s a huge pleasure to follow along as Hazel and Corwin, the last vampire on Earth, dig around in “the Midwest’s magical underbelly”. Ghosts and all sorts of supernatural creatures abound in this well written adventure that’s addictively hard to put down, but easy to highly recommend.
This is her first book I do believe but she has the magic which if you open this one up you will find out. It has one of my favorite ingredients is murder and the search for who done it. Where she lands is another place that captured my interest, I do so like something that turns out to be a bit refreshing as this place was. This also has a ingredient I did not think would transpire but this author has done it to her vampire. Hazel and Corwin take you over in this with the originality having me giggle with glee. I also clap my hands that this is also only the beginning that she has me captive with this treasure that also curled my toes with danger that followed. Oh I hope she is merciful and has the next one soon.
Hazel is a fire-born witch who goes in search of her missing sister after receiving a mysterious letter that leads her to Shadow Hollow. Once there, she procures the attention of many people, good and bad. She also sees her sister’s ghost. She moves into a haunted house, obtains a haunted truck, lands a job and meets the hunky neighbor. This town has hundreds of magicals in it. But, something evil is afoot and will explain what happened to her sister! With the help of other magicals, she will embark on a journey that could cost her own life. She is bound and determined to uncover all aspects to get the answers she needs to help solve the mystery of all things in her new home. This book is full of action and suspense and is a great start to a new series! I received this book as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.
This was a great read, right from the get go you get hooked with the hints off underlying secrets, surprise characters, not knowing quiet who to trust and the need to know what happened to Hazels sister Willow. There are plenty of twists, surprises, secrets and a good few laughs from start to finish and the friendship that Hazel build with George, Corwin and Liam is so great and the scene at the dinner at the end.. yup I fist pumped at her response so bring on book 2!!!
I’ve never read this author before so I was eager to jump in as it seemed like something I would really enjoy. First off, I really thought this would be a YA/NA read, which I’m glad to say it wasn’t exactly. I don’t mind the genre, and I do read it, but it’s not my favorite, but the characters all vary in ages. Oh, and the characters were very interesting, I quite enjoyed the plot, and the book was nicely written. One thing that did bother me a little was that sometimes the author would tell us what was going on (and sometimes not talk about what was said until later) instead of showing us through the characters’ actions or through dialogue. That made it hard at times to get to know the characters well. There just wasn’t much dialogue. However, I still enjoyed book, and I’m looking forward to see what’s going to happen next. I was provided a copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
