5+Us Makes Seven is a super steamy single dad and nanny romance. It has a HEA and NO Cliffhanger. There are a few bonus books for your reading pleasure, including an exclusive book, Hot Pursuit. Enjoy!more
This was a sweet little romance. I loved the two main characters and that they were fallible. The children were great and well written. Only Clara seemed a bit old for her age, but the actions were spot on. Great quick read.
This was well written and the kids made the story. If you love a single dad and nanny romance, then this one will be a good read for you, sweet story but nothing super different from others I have read. Carter is raising his three young children alone after his wife died of cancer. Natasha needs a job since returning from working in Africa helping underprivileged children.
I thought this was gonna be another silly, more-smut-than-romance, novella. I don’t even know what made me download it. The summary of it is pretty ridiculous sounding. And the title is HORRIBLE. It’s seriously the worst title ever. I clicked on it because of how bad the title is. But I guess the joke is on me because the bad title got me to click!
The thing is, I’m a nanny. The heroine of this book is a nanny. I enjoy reading stories about people who are in the same profession or a very similar profession as me. That’s probably why I decided to give it a go. I’ve read a couple other nanny/single dad romances that were in the smut category and I really didn’t like them. So I went into this expecting to hate it.
What made me love it was how thorough the author was when it came to Natasha’s background and knowledge in child development. Every time Natasha would describe behaviors of the children to their dad and what they should do to help correct that mistaken behavior, it was dead on. She was super accurate and made me respect the author’s obvious study of child development. This made me realize that this wasn’t just another smut author who chose to try the nanny/single dad trope for the sake of it like the other couple of books I’d read.
I feel like the description of this book does a disservice to Carter’s character. It makes him seem like this big, hard, cold, unfeeling man when he’s not. Yes, he’s like that at work when he needs to be. He’s very professional the first time he meets and interviews Natasha, as any employer should be. But he’s a loving and caring father. He was respectful and thankful and praises Natasha when he sees the value of her abilities and knowledge when it comes to his children. Even before he falls in love with her and she gets pregnant, he treats her wonderfully.
I really liked that the author didn’t just have them fall into bed after a week of her working there. It took a month and a half or so before they gave in to the attraction. And then they didn’t just become f**k buddies. They took a step back, examined their working relationship, talked about what happened. Decided to have one more night together but then that would be it because the children came first. He was her boss, but he didn’t boss her around when it came to the bedroom. Consent was there and they were equals. The one thing that did bug me was that they never once used birth control or even talked about it. He never pulled out, to try and prevent pregnancy. They didn’t talk about being clean or how many partners they had or when the last time they were with someone. I only needed one sentence to clarify this for me, but that convo never happened. I’d drop half a star for that. I actually expected her to get preggers after the first time they did it because they didn’t use any birth control. Surprisingly, they had unprotected sex, spread out over several months, at least 5 time before she got pregnant.
Eventually deeper feelings developed, life went on, things got in the way. They had to overcome things together outside of sex. It made the story real. I don’t want to give away the whole book, but this book was much longer than a novella. I don’t know the exact pages because it comes with like 5 other bonus books and Kindle doesn’t use page numbers, they use locations. But I could definitely tell that it was longer than the regular books of this style!
The time frame of this story was at least two years. Three, if you count the time jump between the end and the epilogue. Ms. Elliot developed wonderful characters who found more than just lust and hot sex (and boy was there HOT sex!). There was respect, trust, honesty, heartbreak, forgiveness, and most of all love. This book was the perfect combo of the hot, smut sex in erotica with beautiful, tender love stories you find in romance novels.
Okay. It’s official. I am in love with all of them.
Natasha, Carter, and all of the kids…
All the joy and the pain and the healing of Love can be found in this story…
And so, I got lost in it.
Bottom line: Leave me alone. I have a book hangover. 5 stars.
