I haven’t always been this bad… That sexy grin, those skilled fingers, and that dirty, dirty mouth were a lethal combination.
I wasn’t supposed to want him. I wasn’t supposed to let him put his hands on me. I wasn’t supposed to do a lot of things…but I did.
Now, he wants to keep me close.
I should push him away.
But he says he can help me.
I’m not so sure.
And for some reason, he thinks there’s good left in me.
What if he’s wrong?
Everyone knows a good boy can’t turn a bad girl around.
Everyone knows it’s always the other way.
Everyone…except him.

Jaxson “Sundance” Cassidy was always the good guy. Sweet, polite and caring. Jaxson is a successful photographer with a once in a lifetime chance to shoot for Sports Illustrated at many exotic locations. After capturing the precious moments of his ex-fiancée’s wedding, Jaxson is off to a new, fresh start. One he desperately needs.
“You know,” he said, “sometimes I think the only way to get by in this world is to step off for a while.”
Sadie Banks is also looking to “step off for a while” although not intentionally. Sadie is full of self-doubt and feels as though she needs to make amends for her past “mistakes.” She has led a solitary life since she was 17 years old, never staying in one place too long. Circumstances have brought her together with Jaxson and things get hot, scorching hot!
“I turned my wrist over and stared at the image of a rainbow inked right over my pulse point. It was a reminder of the bright side. The symbol of hope. Balance. Good luck. Of a better future. It all felt so ironic now.”
“Hope.”
“I wanted to have it.”
We first met Jaxson Cassidy in Kim Karr’s The Thing About Love which gave you a glimpse of him through that story. Come A Little Closer is 100% a stand-alone, telling Jaxson’s story. What an unexpected, amazing two books!
So, I say WOW! This book has it all. Action, suspense, romance. And as I said above, it is HOT! Scorching hot! There are so many sides to Sadie, to Jaxson, and to their situation – no spoilers here! Jaxson is definitely my new man crush! The first few chapters were a bit slow, but then, what a page turner!
Kim Karr really develops Jaxson and Sadie. Taking them to the next level, emotionally and physically. Her descriptions of the various tropical locations made me feel as though I was there. I actually “googled” one of the islands!
So, “Come A Little Closer” and read this book! There will be another book about Sadie’s cousin, Finn, Something Just Like This, coming later this year and I can’t wait to read it! As I said above, these two inter connected books have been a wonderful surprise. I have really enjoyed them and look forward to the next one to come!

This book was so much more than I expected, but in such a GREAT way.
Come A Little Closer was an exciting, intriguing and egg of your seat read. There were so many twists and turns that I couldn’t have predicted how this story was going to turn out. Kim Karr definitely knows how to delivery an OUTSTANDING romantic suspense novel.
Come A Little Closer is a standalone novel that is told in Dual POV. This is a companion novel to The Thing About Love. There are some interconnected characters that we see in both stories and the Hero of CALC, we first meet in The Thing About Love. You don’t have to read TTAL first before enjoying this story. Kim does a wonderful job filling in the blanks for the readers so you know how everything and everyone is connected. I truly feel these books can be read in any order and you won’t be lost.
I thought this book was well written. The pace and flow of this story was perfect. I loved how this story played out and how everything unfolded.
In this story we follow Jaxson and Sadie. Like I said we first met Jaxson in TTAL, he is Jules’s Ex. He is a professional photographer who has just been given the dream job. So he decides to help get over his break up with Jules, he is going to sell everything and live life and travel while he can. What he wasn’t expecting was to be stranded at the airport because his flight is canceled and then meeting Sadie. Sadie is a girl who is on her own and has been for awhile. She was just fired from her job and has gotten herself in a bit of trouble thanks to an old friend. This trouble has led her to the airport and to bump into Jaxson. What happens from here is a journey of lies, deceit, secrets but also finding love when you least expect it.
This was a great romantic suspense story, but it was also a story about finding love and having hope. You will learn that if you hold onto HOPE you can get through anything.
I would 100% recommend this book to all readers. This book had a little bit of everything for everyone. I think everyone should meet Jaxson and Sadie. This was one of my favorite reads this year!!!
Sometimes you have to go through shit to get to the other side! I’m so glad they both found happiness together! It was fate that they met & fell in love! I love the sweet note about the Yellow Ribbon that it’s a symbol of hope, faith & Love! Gives me hope that one day I’ll find someone as amazing as Jaxson! Loved this book so much! One thing that stood out to me, that I loved was, that Jaxson had goals for himself & his career, that he didn’t just want to shoot for one publication, he wanted to shoot for them all! I also loved that he helped Sadie in her career as well. He knew how much she loved to write, so he took it upon himself to submit her writing to her former boss which worked out really well for the both of them! This was so emotional but in the end absolutely perfect! I want more of Jaxson & Sadie!!!! This is by far the most emotional book I’ve ever read. I really enjoyed this book though! I highly recommend it! #JaxsonandSadie #Fate #SundancePhotography #SupportiveCouple
Well, Kim Karr crushed this one!!!! 5 Stars all the way for me! It had MAJOR steam, mystery, beautiful settings, and great characters. All of those elements combined with the fact that it was also very well-written made this a PERFECT read. Karr had me riveted from the very first scene…wow!!!
Poor Sadie has lived with secrets all her life, and she has spent her adulthood moving forward and trying to make a good life for herself. Now, her past is coming back to haunt her, so she does what she always does, she runs. However, this time she has a very angry and sexy man chasing her. He was supposed to be an easy mark, even if she detested stealing from others, but he turned out to be more complicated that she ever anticipated.
Jaxson was on his way to paradise for the job of a lifetime when he met a beautiful woman by the name of “Sarah” in an airport bar. He recently lost his fiancée to another man, and he has been celibate, swearing off women to concentrate on himself. “Sarah” is a temptation he can’t resist. After she accepts a drink and his proposition of “no strings” sex, he is more than delighted. Too bad the next morning, reality will set in when he wakes up to realize “Sarah” isn’t who she says she is, and she has run off with his money and livelihood. Luck is on his side when he finds a clue she left behind, and he vows to make her pay.
The attraction between these two is electrifying. They are “two lost souls, broken, damaged, and incomplete” yet there are “electric sparks, dangerous chemistry, and lust.” All those complicated emotions drew me into their story.
Sadie has made some wrong choices which leads to her even making worse decisions, but they do come from a good place in her heart. She’s trying to make things better. Jaxson looks like the all-American man, but he also exudes “sin, power, and seduction” with a completely naughty side. Sadie seems to bring that out in him. Yet, he also is a nice guy even though he tries to hide it since being the nice guy got him nothing but a broken heart. As much as Sadie brings out that naughty side, she brings out the good guy too. Once he knows her story, he will do anything he can to help her. But, he never counted on falling so hard for her.
In addition to this being a steamy romance, it also had elements of mystery and suspense. I certainly wasn’t expecting the twists and turns that occurred. Plus, the locations on the tropical islands made me feel like I was there in paradise as well.
I love the way Kim Karr writes. It is so much more than just a book; it’s a story she tells. Her use of literary devices and her descriptive writing is what sets her apart from some other writers in the same genre. She adds little things that make the story bigger. For instance, she added the 12 Steps that Sadie learned in her Al-Anon meetings and weaved them seamlessly into the book. My most favorite part of the book was the last two sentences in the epilogue, talk about making my heart melt!!!! It was perfect!!!!
COME A LITTLE CLOSER by Kim Karr is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic romance story line set in the world of The Thing About Love. This is photographer Jaxson Cassidy, and online blogger Sadie Banks’s story line. COME A LITTLE CLOSER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Jaxson was first introduced to the reader in the author’s The Thing About Love.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Jaxson and Sadie) COME A LITTLE CLOSER follows Sadie Banks in the aftermath of losing her job when the new PA screws up and our heroine takes the fall. Sadie, desperate for money, and something to do, goes home to Moon Island, Georgia where she will encounter Simon McCoy, the town rebel and her childhood friend. An accident will send our heroine spiralling out of control in an attempt to right the wrongs from the past. Enter Jaxson Cassidy, world-renowned photographer and stock model, and the man with whom Sadie will fall in love. What ensues is the tempestuous relationship between Jaxson and Sadie, and the potential fall-out as Sadie discovers the truth about the past; and the secrets Simon keeps hidden from our story line heroine.
Jaxson Cassidy found himself stranded in Atlanta during the height of storm season but stranded alone meant finding a companion that was willing to find any port in a storm. A one-night stand that went horribly wrong, Jaxson set out to destroy the person who had attempted to destroy his life.
The relationship between Sadie and Jaxson is acrimonious. Jaxson’s anger toward our heroine is tempered by the truth, an unbelievable truth that finds our couple caught up in someone’s game of betrayal and revenge. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense with some light Dom/sub sexual situations, and anal-play. Jaxson likes to talk dirty both in and out of the bedroom. Once again, I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word, although only used once its purpose is shock value, more than anything else. There are also some issues of coerced consent of which I had a difficult time accepting.
The secondary and supporting characters add color and intrigue, and some background information as Jaxson seeks to learn the truth. Jake and Juliette, as well as Juliette’s cousin Finn, and Jake’s sister Dr. Rory Kissinger return for familiarity and cohesion.
COME A LITTLE CLOSER is a story of betrayal and vengeance; hopelessness and tragedy; falling in love and letting go of the past. The premise is entertaining, intriguing and engaging; the characters are spirited, flawed and energetic; the romance is provocative and on fire. COME A LITTLE CLOSER is an angst-ridden, roller coaster ride of sass, $ex and sensuality.
Come A Little Closer by Kim Karr is a fabulous, sexy, standalone romantic mystery told in dual POV and belonging to the same book world as The Thing About Love.
Sadie is in a downward spiral that hits rock bottom on Moon Island, Georgia. Finding herself desperate she wrongs the man she had a one-night stand with, Jaxson, and tries to move one past it. Finding hat she can’t she then tries to make amends and ends up running. Ending up on the Island of Antigua with nothing but the clothes on her back and $100 American dollars she runs into the one person she was running away from and the story just explodes from there. Intrigue, lust, romance, guilt. All of it.
Jaxson is the ex-fiancé of Jules from The Thing About Love. While the books exist in the same world they do not need to be read as part of a series, are NOT part of a series, I just loved the tie-in.
The book was so well-written and the plot twisted in just the right ways to always leave you feeling like something was just not sitting right. It was a prefect match to how I imagined the characters would be feeling. Loved it Hard! Enjoy!
‘Step off for a while’
The thought behind that phrase seems to be that everyone needs to veer off the path every once in a while…let things go and experience life in all its glory, but while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a little bad…with walking on the wild side, so to speak, when someone makes a string of bad decisions, resulting in a series of unfortunate predicaments, there comes a point when the reins need to be pulled and a step back on the well-thought out path needs to happen.
Since Sadie Banks was 17 years old, her life’s course has taken some serious misturns and because she’s messed up a significant number of times, she doesn’t feel she deserves forgiveness, happiness or love, which are the things she actually needs in order to pull herself away from her bad behavior and make amends for her past misdeeds.
But nothing’s simple in life, especially one that has callously let Sadie down time and time again, so when Jaxson Cassidy, veritable good guy, sets his sights on being a little bad with his little ‘thief,’ it’s difficult to ascertain if these two characters have what it takes to weather the storm that always seems to be brewing behind Sadie and just might destroy everything that Jaxson has worked so hard to achieve.
Based on how Sadie and her actions are depicted, especially at the beginning of her story, I think it’s fair to say that some readers might be a bit turned off by her. They might struggle to understand the string of events that happened and perhaps see her decisions as irredeemable. But all I can say is…keep reading…there are a lot of twists and turns in Come a Little Closer, some easily predicted and some that I never saw coming; regardless though, a clear perspective with be necessary before judgment can truly be given about Sadie and her bad girl image.
Sadie and Jaxson’s story strays away from Kim Karr’s usual story line, and it’s that idea that made me suppress my reactions and commentary about the characters and their actions until I could understand everything that occurred and the difficulties that those incidences caused; everyone and everything involved makes it all way more complex than anyone would have guessed, so instead of being reactionary while reading, I allowed everything to play out and then used the facts of every situation to ascertain the truth because it is definitely not a black/white scenario.
Readers will absolutely love Jaxson’s character and enjoy his walk on the ‘wildside’ with Sadie, but readers will do well to remember that not everything is what it seems, so amidst the scorching scenes pay attention to any and every detail because there’s so much more to Sadie than her bad girl behaviors and that’s what allows me to see past her mistakes and understand who she truly is and wants to be.
4 Poison Apples
Come A Little Closer is an angst filled romance from Kim Karr. Sadie Banks has had a rough life and things just got worse. A terrible accident has led to her life spiraling out of control and she now has to do things she never imagined.
Jaxson Cassidy is at the pinnacle of his career as a photographer for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Until he meets Sadie and his life turns upside down.
Jaxson and Sadie’s relationship is built on secrets, lies and some very hot sex! They have both been through challenges and yet challenge each other in a way that makes them both feel alive. I enjoyed watching them grow together as a couple and watch them fall in love. The twists and turns had me questioning whether or not they would make it. Definitely an enjoyable book!
Come A Little Closer is a catchy, romantic suspense that has such a sad start to a romance but it sets the scene for the tumultuous journey of Jaxson Cassidy and Sadie Banks. Sadie Banks is in a precarious situation of her own making and Jaxson Cassidy is at the start of something great. Two people at opposite ends but on a collision course right towards each other. They are both strong, sexy characters with an insane, instant attraction. Their story is a rollercoaster of emotions and suspense that will keep you guessing until the very end. I love how the title plays throughout along with some great cameo Come A Little Closer is a great read.
This for me was probably Kim Karr’s hottest book to date. A standalone, but with links to her other novel The Thing About Love – Jules & Jakes story.
Come a Little Closer focuses on Sadie and Jaxson and is mostly set in the various Carribbean Islands. Although I’m not sure there was any mention as to how they managed to get from island to island. There were also some details that didn’t quite add up for me. A lot of things did become clear by the end however.
I loved Jason. He was your typical, hot, Alpha male lead. Sadie on the other hand wasn’t what I would call a strong female character. In some ways I felt she was a bit of a martyr. I just wish she had had more edge to her.
The story itself was incredibly unique. I loved the first few chapters especially and there was a definite mystery surrounding it.
Whilst I wasn’t completely blown away on the whole, there were some definite hot scenes and the added suspense of it all made it quite an enjoyable read indeed.
This story was so different from others that I have read by Kim Karr, I had the same reaction when I read “The Thing About Love”, and a bonus is that Jake and Jules from that story make an appearance in this one! Ms. Karr is taking us on a Steamy, Suspenseful, Rollercoaster Ride so Buckle up and Enjoy!
Come A Little Closer brings us the story of Sundance and Sadie. These two are very enjoyable characters that steam up the pages in more ways than one. This is not a story about BDSM although there were tiny bits of D/s in there as they find their way together sexually, it was totally hot especially all the dirty talk (demands) thanks to Jaxson’s dirty dirty mind. *wink* *wink*
I have to reflect a bit on the story line without giving to much away because it is something that I haven’t read about before and it really intrigued me, I’ve read about enemies to lovers even second chance at love but this one doesn’t fit into either of those tropes really even though the two people involved meet for the first time and then a second and one doesn’t really like the other, but even this feels different, it felt as if the stars had aligned and the events that brought them together were meant to happen just as they had unfolded. Whether you believe in faith or destiny or something else altogether things played out the way they needed to for both parties.
Sadie takes us on a while ride as she tries to right a wrong she has done but things aren’t always black and white as they seem, there are many shades of gray that she has to waddle through and hopefully she will do so and come out on the other side with a better understanding on why things had happened. Sadie didn’t have an easy life and neither did Jaxson (Sundance) for that matter but there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for these two and I highly recommend you take the ride with them.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book**
Come a Little Closer is a bit different to any other book I have read by Km Karr but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed any less, it was a great read. This story is a romantic thriller with a lot of passion and chemistry, this is Jaxon and Sadie’s story, a alpha male who has a sweet side and a girl with so many complications in her past, can they ever make it work….
These characters are strong and they drew me in from the first page , this is an emotional read with the perfect mix of mystery and suspense, it’s full of twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages, its about making bad judgment calls but once you put all of this together you get a really good read from a very talented author.
I love Come a Little Closer. I could hardly put this book down and I wouldn’t have except that sometimes life gets in the way of make believe. Kim Karr is one of my must read authors.
Come a Little Closer is a standalone but, there are other books that go along with this book. I am not sure you can call it a series and this author doesn’t but, if you love this book you need to read The Thing About Love. Which is Jake Kissinger and Juliet’s story. They are characters in this book too. And, I really loved their story too.
Okay enough about another book. Come a Little Closer is Jaxson Cassidy and Sadie Banks story.
“Jaxson is not just hot he is smoking hot.” And, a really nice guy too. Although, he was wronged when Sadie set her mark on him. She needed money to pay for a kid’s surgery after she had a hit and run with the little guy. Guilt was eating up Sadie in all kinds of ways. There is a twist in the story which I loved! I can’t really say more because then I would ruin the story.
If you love romances you should love Come a Little Closer. I had chills on my arms reading parts of this book. Did I already tell you I loved this book?
I give Come a Little Closer 5 stars. And, coming this fall is Something Just Like This which is Finn’s book and I can’t wait to delve into it!
Wow, what a great read. So many twists and turns… “Come A Little Closer” by Kim Karr is a fantastic read and highly recommended.
