This books twists and turns made me stop and think. Could I do what the heroine in this book did, for love and for herself. I probably couldn’t, but DAMN did I love this book. The twists and turns are so engaging. THAT ENDING KILLED ME, like dead! This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it won’t be the last! I love when I find someone new to obsess over!
This was a book I put off reading because I’m not a huge fan of dark romance as a rule. Well I should have known that Leigh Lennon wouldn’t let me down and Stockholm would be a fabulous read. Mikayla is kidnapped by Nolan and wakes up in a cabin in the woods in Canada. She knows she shouldn’t fall for her abductor but Nolan has been nothing but kind to her.
I love all of Leigh Lennon’s books. She always put her characters through so much emotional hell before bringing them out the other side in one piece. I loved Mikayla’s strength in the beginning to hold out against Nolan. I was ok with Nolan because despite kidnapping he was never unkind or abusive to Mikayla. Always looking forward to my next Leigh Lennon read!
What an incredible story! The depths of emotions that you feel while reading this is mind blowing. One night Mikayla is arguing with someone at her car and the next day she wakes up in a strange house. In walks Nolan, her captor, and she wants answers. But he’s not your “normal” kidnapper. You could tell from reading this, that he is more of a savior. And there is definite attraction between these characters. As time goes by, their dynamics change and you wonder if they will somehow end up together? Mikayla has trouble in her past and Nolan wants to help her. But can he? Will she let him? There were many twists and turns to this story, which kept you guessing. I also loved how the story would go back and forth in time to help explain and tie everything together. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
Mikayla and Nolan’s story was unusual, but in the end, the heart really does want what it wants, and no one else can say otherwise. Theirs was an unconventional love, to be sure! The way their love evolved was believable, but not full of hearts and flowers. Good read with a different twist.
Well by the title of this book you can pretty much tell the subject matter. However just like any good book everything is not always as it appears. Like real life there is always much more to the story.
This book is full of twists, turns and facts you’re not expecting. I found myself thinking, “Oh yeah, I know what’s coming or what happened”. Sometimes I was right ( cause I’m a sleuth. Actually, I’m just a good guesser) but most times it veered off to something else!
The author held you captive with her story. See what I did there? 🙂
There are two main characters in the story but all the other characters are almost equally as relevant to the WHOLE story. There is one character, who I was trying to sort out why she was written the way she was and I thought there was going to be another connection. After, I finished I thought of another book (trilogy) I read (also had 3 movies) and bam! I realized why. Even sometimes I’m a little dense. This was just my justification in my mind, cause I hate to admit I’m wrong! I’m certain this isn’t the author’s intention. Sometimes, we try to make more than there is, especially me.
Yes, there is romance, sex, angst and plenty of drama for everyone. Some of it may befuddle you as to some of the things that happen. You may read it and say, “How can that happen”, or “I would never act that way or do that”. Really? Do you REALLY know how you would act in every situation? We think we know ourselves but each individual is different.
What I appreciate about this author is that she delves into everyday matters and digs a little deeper. She keeps her books real. What I found fascinating is how she can hit on a subject like when we or a family member is involved in something we can delude ourselves into not seeing something or totally ignore the evidence in front of us. We can lie to ourselves or erase in our minds or from everyday life that it doesn’t exist. We use these as coping mechanisms to keep our world as perfect as possible. It’s always easier to put blame on someone else or believe the worse of someone else. I can’t go into it cause I don’t do spoilers. It’s not fair to the author.
Another reason, I like this book is due to the authors notes. I learned a lot about her process for this story. A book is not done ( I didn’t say the story, but the book) until you hit the last page.
I guess what I’m trying to say is I really enjoyed this book! This is not my first book by this author but it is my first read of this genre by her. I look forward to seeing what she pens next!
OH MY GWAD….. This was so much MORE than I expected. Colette and David have a love you read about in fairytales but how they get there is so so so odd yet intriguing… I was so all over the place with emotion thru this whole book.. And the end…. OH MYYYY GWAAAAD…. I am shook with shock.. Well done!!! Can’t wait to see what the next darkness you unleash is….
Wow! This book had many twists and turns and by the title name you can guess what it’s about it was truly amazing!
Wow! For Leigh Lennon’s first book in a new genre, she did wonderfully! This story has a very unique take on a hard subject. The writing was absolutely beautiful.
While the story was rough in places, I did find that the author was able to stay very well within the timeline that she provided. With the multiple characters point of view it gave the story a certain depth that you don’t typically see.
I did find it interesting to see the difference in the characters as the story unfolded. They each had grown in their own way. There was hurt, love, anger, fear, drama… It was all there and balanced well!
I honestly can’t wait for more from this author! I absolutely recommend this book!
So Stockholm by Leigh Lennon Is one that really appealed to me when I read the blurb.
And though I did enjoy this I wasn’t overly fond of the writing style used here.
The story in itself here was great. I just felt it jumped POV to often and sometimes I found myself a bit confused and lost within the timeline.
I would have liked to have spent more time getting to know Nolan/Mikayla and David/Colette.
as because of the way that this was told I didn’t feel that connected to there story.
Despite the above, this was an interesting read that did capture and keep my attention.
One thing though, I didn’t find “Stockholm” dark at all, it was actually quite sweet in its execution and intent.
Overall I would describe this more as a saga with romantic overtures than an actual full-blown romance.
In conclusion, I found this a unique read and I thought the twist at the end was a fabulous addition to the plot.
So its a thumbs up from me.
I was provided with an ARC of “Stockholm” By the author of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t read the blurb at all. I basically went in blind with only an idea of what the book would be about given the name. I was not entirely correct. You can guess by the name that it is about a woman that is taken captive and then she falls for her captor. It was not as dark as I thought it was going to be. When I was not expecting was the back story that went with it! I really loved that it came from 3 different POV, I was getting a little lost with the 3 POV and going back and forth between now and then the abduction took place. I thought it really was a great showing of how these things end up affecting the whole family, and even future members of the family. I thought it was a great book and had some really fantastic jaw dropping moments… and one HUGE bomb drop! (this had me totally wishing that there had been more in the book from David/Nolan’s POV) The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read for me was that I didn’t feel any emotional attachment to the main characters. I think that may have been in large part to all the jumping around. Since the POV were from 3 completely different areas and the constant time hopping. I just don’t feel like that left my brain a whole lot of room for attachment.
