Break the enchantments. Find the truth. Ignite the revolution.A century ago, the Enchanters defeated the evil Lord of the Underworld, but not before he’d unleashed his monsters and ravaged the earth. The Enchanters built the Triumvirate out of what remained of the United States, demanding absolute obedience in exchange for protection from the lingering supernatural beasts.Sixteen-year-old Flynn … beasts.
Sixteen-year-old Flynn Nightsider, doomed to second-class life for being born without magic, knows the history as well as anyone. Fed up with the Triumvirate’s lies and secrecy, he longs for change. And when he stumbles across a clue that hints at something more – secrets in the dark, the undead, and buried histories – he takes matters into his own hands.
Before long, Flynn finds himself hunted not only by the government, but also by nightmarish monsters and a mysterious man with supernatural powers … all seeking him for reasons he cannot understand. Rescued by underground rebels, he’s soon swept up in their vision of a better world, guided by a girl as ferocious as the monsters she fights. But as the nation teeters on the brink of revolution, Flynn realizes three things.
The rebellion is not what it seems.
Flynn himself might be more than he seems.
And the fate of the world now rests in his hands.

This review will be specifically for the Hardcover copy.
I normally don’t comment or take the condition of the book itself into the review unless it effects my reading experience and that it sadly did.
I’m not sure if it was just a bad copy or if all the hardcover copies of this book are like that. But mine had a terrible binding job. The pages just started falling out, which saddens me even more since it was signed. But it got so bad that at the end I was afraid to turn the page in fear it also would fall out. And no it was not me I have books that are super old and reread several times and they don’t lose pages by just turning them.
That being said and other than the fear of keep losing pages I really liked the book. I loved the writing, the story and Characters. I thought it was original and fresh and also super fun to follow. I enjoyed the world building and more so the characters.
So this could or would have been and easy 4-5 star read for me BUT sadly the condition of the book hinder me greatly enjoying it even more.
So I can only give it 3
I didn’t know what to expect, but I soon found myself lost in a tale of government corruption, rebellion, monsters, magic and unlikely heroes. If you were to take a heaping cup of Harry Potter, mix it with healthy handful of the Divergent series, and throw in a pinch of the Hunger Games, you might come up with a story line such as this. But it takes an adept chef to balance the ingredients to provide such a tasty treat as this. There’s enough humor and action as well as thrills and chills to keep your interest but not bog down the flow of the story. And hang on tight for the conclusion.
I received an ARC of this ebook from the author through Book Sirens. I am posting this review to let others know that this is the kind of story that shouldn’t be missed.
Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil Kindle Edition
by Mary Fan
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Mary Fan has created a Dystopian, Post-Apocalyptic America for Young Adults. While Flynn is an interesting character who is clearly more than he seem, he behaves like a 12-14 year old rather than the jaded 16 year old he is meant to be.
The story starts slowly, with a lot of world building being dumped on the reader. There is a lot of telling to start with. Unlike other books, such as Susan Collin’s Hunger Games or Veronica Roth’s Divergent, there isn’t a deep, poetic feeling and growth of character. This book is also heavily influenced by the magical academy stories, like Harry Potter as can be seen in the title itself.
A difficult read for an older reader, this book would be excellent for an advanced middle school or early high school reader.
Three stars out of five.

5 Cranky Stars
This is a 5 star story of a postapocalyptic America. There are demons, magic and a caste system in place. The Triumvirate has shielded the cities with protective domes to keep out the demons. However, the demon activity is increasing. Our hero Flynn is a member of the lowest caste and is essentially a nobody. He lives in the Fourth Ring but because he has been an orphan since age 10, he attends the Academy. Which means, he gets a basic education, housing, food and the pleasure of cleaning up the Academy.
Flynn has always wondered what really happened to his mother. He was with her when she was killed but he understand what happened. All he remembers is the mysterious voice that called to his mother. Now, on the sixth anniversary of that day, as he helps the school prepare for the annual celebration of the Day of Glory, he hears that voice again. With his best friend by his side, he sets out on a quest to find the name of that person with revenge on his mind.
What he finds will turn his world around. He has never been allowed to learn magic or how it works but must use it now to find his answers. He also never knew about the Rising and the Defiance. His life becomes tangled with both these movements. His naivety may just get him killed by both movements. Sometimes a need for revenge can get one into more trouble. Will his one sided view of life cause the downfall of his world? Just who were his parents anyway and which side did they really fight for? The twists and turns seem to never end in this fast paced thriller.
