*Deviants is book two in the Badlands series and will conclude Romero and Cali’s story.
more
After the way Savages ended, I NEEDED this book ASAP.
Deviants was filled with EPIC darkness. Calista had so much more to go through; I wanted to see her unleash her inner monster on everyone who had wronged her. The things she had witnessed were startling and kept taking the depravity to the next level.
Calista and Romero are pure fire together and even through all of their wicked tendancies, I am completely fascinated by them and their chemistry.
This book was incredible and I’m already reaching for the next one in the series.
Continuing with the story of Cali and Romero the book begins where Savages ended, where we see Cali annoyed and feeling betrayed but above all confused and it is not the only one because in the last book we did not really have any answer to all the questions but at least in this if we have most of the important answers.
I liked how Callista at first had a little fight with herself trying to accept who she is and especially who she wants to be, so when she finally accepted herself and began to take charge of her life she returned to being the queen she is, while Romero surprised me quite a bit, I didn’t think I could love him more but he did it, I always have a favorite phrase from each book and this quote that he said to Cali was incredible:
“I don’t give a shit about the things in your past. That would be pretty fucking hypocritical on my end. All I care about is the gorgeous, dope ass queen in front of me right now.“
It was just what Cali needed to hear but he is still a psychopath.
Definitely I would say that the book a the beginning was about seeing Cali change and unlike the previous book we now knew how The Badlands is and works, and oh boy that dystopian world was very interesting, while the rest of the characters I loved each one, they are very different and necessary. Arlen she is an incredible friend who supports and does not judge Cali, Grimm and Cobra, both are very different that I don’t know who is my favorite, but kings that is what they are.
Again this book is very dark too, there are themes of satanism, cannibalism, gore and all the things you can think of, so it is not for everyone but it is still amazing and I recommend it.
Oh man Romero, Romero. The conclusion of his and Calista story was phenomenal. Nothing in this series should be taken at face value. Romero gives bits and pieces of the truth but hides so much. Calista can play the game and fight dirty as well.
This is not your typical romance, but I do love bloody cult reads. This book has blood, violence, and so many twists and turns. I loved every minute of it.
Deviants is book two in the series. It was twisted, gritty and dark. I loved it! I loved loved Romero and Cali. They were crazy and twisted but so perfect for each other. I loved them together.
“We fought hard. We fucked harder. We killed without remorse.”
Jesus, Deviants was even more sick and deranged than Savages.. and I STILL LIKED IT.
There’s dark and then there’s pitch black dark, like looking into a bottomless pit that leads straight into hell, and this book definitely qualifies as the latter.
If you fancy a dive into a hellish world filled with debauchery and sin in the most twisted form imaginable, then this is definitely the read for you.
Natalie Bennett – you are now on my radar when I want to take a walk on the dark side.
5 Cranky Stars
AGAIN: WARNING. THIS SERIES IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SEXY LOVE STORY.
Deviants, in many ways for me, is actually better than the first book, Savages. ALOT of questions that were raised in the first book get answered. And you get more questions to replace them! What I love about this series is that are plots within plots, hidden motivations and just a raw honesty from the characters about who they are.
Devil incarnate? Check. Violence-induced sex? Check. Blind worship? Check. But you also get tenderness and love from the most unlikely characters.
Deviants takes us deeper into the world of the Savages and the Badlands and uncovers the deadly quest for power being waged in post-apocalyptic ‘Merica. Along the way, we not only get more invested in the characters but we also start to see that what things appear to be are not really all they appear to be.
The writing is excellent with the author giving us what we need just when we need it. There is no gratuitous sex here. It is ALL warranted, justified AND provoked!!
Altogether an enjoyable read!! Great series so far!
Another wicked ending for The Devil and his Queen.
These books are seriously messed up, lol.
I still stand by it and say that they are not for the faint of heart. Now, if you get past it, try this series out. It’s really enjoyable in the craziest way possible.
We continue on with Calista and Romero with the band of “misfits” causing havoc around the Badlands.
Book 1 ended on a pretty good cliffhanger and if I attempt to talk about what happened here, it’ll get a good 25% of the beginning of the book in. So, I won’t do that.
But know, there are so many twists and turns, unexpected alliances, unexpected betrayals, or in Cali’s mind totally expected.
We get a big bombshell dropped on us that had me questioning how the hell it was going to work with the rest of the story.
Natalie Bennett did another amazing job with this book and I can’t wait to read book 3 with Arlen and Grimm.
Those two intrigued me like no other!
Oh, My this book was fantastically bad and all sorts of wrong and I still devoured every word.
If you thought Savages was hard-core well this is definitely on another level completely.
Think of a million acts of bad and then quadruple this by hundred and I still don’t think you could come close to how intensely this digs into the badness of its bones.
Poisoning anyone stupid enough to get in the way of the devil and his malignant queen.
This ligit got revolting at times.
like I’m gonna lose my dinner sick
So Romero is off the charts insane in this second instalment I’m talking a complete psychopathic, cannibalistic satanist.
He has no redeeming qualities except his love and affection for his Queen Calista.
And she’s equally as deranged completely embracing the darkness inside herself.
And their main objective seems to be reigning supreme over the badlands.
So it’s extremely disturbing to myself to realise just how much I enjoyed this messed up narrative.
This author has a seriously messed up mind, Love it.
So what else, well this was fabulously well written, I adored all the secondary players here and they were equally as well fleshed out, so that was good.
Deviants for me was full of twists and turns but fairly low on the angst factor which I appreciated as I’m, not a lover of angsty scenarios.
Just be aware before digging in here this is a seriously unbalanced narrative that takes complete advantage of its anything-goes dystopian post-apocalyptic setting.
You will need a strong stomach.
There must be something wrong with me because I can’t wait to read the next in this gruesome series.
I was provided with a review copy of “Deviants (Badlands #2) ” By the author of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
4.5 Stars
DEVIANTS is the conclusion (so far) of the story of Calista and Romero. And sometimes all I can think while was reading this book is “what the hell did I just read and why the hell am I am enjoying this???”
The true purpose of the dance that has been played between Calista and Romero has come to fruition. The lies and secrets are being answered. The history of pain and abuse is coming to the light and there will be nowhere to hide. But that does not mean that there are not plots being planned and games to still be played. The King of the Badlands has found his Queen, and together they will reign in blood and vengeance!
I am hoping that this is not the end to the story of Cali and Romero. These two are simple, yet complex characters that I have really enjoyed reading about. Their story is dark and damaged, but there is a method to the madness that rules their lives, and they happily accept that madness into their lives. They will bring blood to those who crave it, and death to those who challenge them.
Again, Natalie Bennett has pulled me back into her horrific and titillating world of the Badlands. I have surprisingly enjoyed this book and SAVAGES. I have no idea how Natalie Bennett does it, but she really grabbed from the first with her writing and I couldn’t stop reading.
I Loved Savages but OMG Deviants was just as great. I am left speechless to be honest.
It is twisted. Sick and I loved every single word of it (so not sure how that makes me look but I don’t care)This book is not hearts and flowers this book is not for the faint-hearted/ Cali and Romero story is a dark twisted story.
Natalie Bennett had me hooked from the first page and I did not want their story to end. I cannot say much about this book without spoilers but that I loved it. The writing just sucks you in and does not let go until the end and it just leaves you wanting more.
The Characters are dark, sick, and twisted. However, you cannot help but like them. This story has a few twists and turns I did not see coming. If you love sick and dark blood and gore books then this is the one for you. I highly recommend this series. These books have just made my top five favourite reads for 2018.
I cannot wait to read Outcasts.
I was the devil’s queen.
The devil was my king.
I’d found my peace in his world of darkness.
If you thought Savages was dark and deranged just wait until you read Deviants by Natalie Bennett. I was drawn in with book one, but book two has me considering becoming a member of the savages myself.
Calista is off the rails as we begin exactly where book one left off. Feeling betrayed and alone (though she isn’t in more ways than one) she lets her inner monster out to play. Her revenge plot on David is far from over. What does it mean to love the devil?
I loved this so much more that book one, and I didn’t hate book one! There is more depth for all characters. There are so many secrets revealed, and even more presented. More blood, more violence and a whole lot more psychotic Cali & Rome!! I am looking forward to getting both Grimm and Cobra’s stories (I hope they happen soon!) I think that I may have a teensy, maniacal crush on Cobra. Does that make me as demented as the savages? I sure hope so.

~WRITING – PLOT – PACE~
I legit almost lost my lunch a few times while reading this one. This author’s mind is a SCARY fucked up place for sure. That said, I loved every sick and twisted moment of this book. As I mentioned in my review for book one this duet is by far my favorite from this author to date. The writing was fantastic. The pace was perfect. This book was actually a bit longer than what she usually writes. That was a good thing as It allowed the story to be much more fleshed out. The plot was super engaging. It was twisted. It was super dark. It was fucked up. It was gross. It was disgusting. It was gritty. It was bloody. It was sexy. Last, it was all wrapped up in an OK ending. I have a feeling we will be seeing more of this couple so I can’t complain TOO much.
~HERO~
ROMERO…Lord this guy was seriously deranged. A Satanist. A cannibal. A murderer. A rapist. He literally had NO redeeming characteristics. Well, that isn’t exactly true. He loved Calista. She was his “QUEEN.” And this reader loved his character SO much <--- don't judge (lol). His brand of psycho was HOT. ~HEROINE~ CALISTA...She came a bit more into her own in this one. Her and Rom were perfect for each. Bound together in crazy and covered in blood. She was just as fucked up as Romero was. She was feisty. She was strong. She stood toe to toe with the devil. I loved her. ~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~ Again as with book one, we have a rich tapestry of secondary characters in this one. I loved Grim. I loved Arlen <--- I can't wait for their book coming up. I loved Cobra. Each one of them was intriguing and added a lot of depth and background to the story. ~HEAT LEVEL~ Medium. There were some smokin' hot sex scenes in this one and the frequency fit the story. As with book one, this couple has AMAZING on page chemistry. Cali and Rom are my favorite couple out of all the books I have read by this author (which is all of them I *think*). ~ANGST LEVEL~ Low. Again this one wasn't angsty in the least for me. This couple is solid all through the book and there was no OW or OM drama. ~IN THE END~ I LOVED it. This duet is now firmly in first place as my favorite from this author. The writing was great. The plot twisted and dark. The characters well developed and intriguing. Natalie Bennett just keeps getting better and better. If you are a dark book lover than this author is not to be missed. Two HUGE thumbs up from yours truly.
Deviants is Book 2 in the deliciously dark and twisted Badlands series. Just when I thought Rome and Cali’s story couldn’t get any darker Natalie Bennett raises the bar and makes my dark little heart rejoice. I found myself torn between wanting to devour their story as quickly as I could but then slowing down to take a moment to just enjoy this mindblowing read.
Rome and Cali’s love is not hearts and flowers by any means but oh how I love when their demons play together. I was kept on the edge of my seat as secrets were revealed and their story took twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed catching up with my favorite family of Savages and look forward to their stories as well.
I was honestly surprised by how much I loved Savages but was left speechless by Deviants. This book picks up right where Savages ended so if you haven’t read Savages yet stop and do that first. Also, if you have triggers be aware this book will push some boundaries. I love my dark reads but there was a moment or two when I cringed and in the end I had the biggest grin on my face. Deviants is a must read if you love dark and twisted reads and is now my top favorite dark reads.
Oh my dayz. I loved book one Savages. I loved it so much that I re read it before jumping into this book. I don’t re read much but I can see me re reading this series quite a bit as it’s a fantastic series.
Savages had the shock factor for me. The OMG am I really reading and loving this story. My expectations were high for Deviants. I wanted the author to blow my mind and she exceeded my expectations. She blew my mind. There aren’t many books that had me cringing but I did cringe twice while reading Deviants. I had to take a deep breath and keep reading. Let me just say I was mentally high fiving the author as I crave being pushed.
I’m not gonna go into the storyline as I don’t wanna ruin either book for you. I absolutely loved the two main characters Calista and Romero. They suit each other so well.
If your like me and you love dark twisted stories then I highly recommend you read these now. I’m so looking forward to reading more of this series.
The second book in the Badland series. I loved Savages and I was hoping this book was just a good. It was and just like the first book I was glued to my ereader while reading it.
In this book some of the secrets are revealed and we find out more about Romero and Calista’s background and the world they live in, but there are plenty of question still unanswered.
The relationship between them deepens and it shows just how right they are for each other. And like the first book this story will grip you and not let you go. It is gruesome, gory, twisted, bloody and full of horrible events. But there is also love.
I had some many sentences I love, but I picked this on as my favorite line “ I was born a freak now turned into a deviant savage. I was the devil’s queen. the devil was my king. I’d found my peace in his world of darkness”.
Natalie Bennett left us hanging at the end of Savages, hoping that we could hang on until Deviants. Or maybe that was just me. I know that I was just cunting down the minutes until I could get the rest of Cali and Rome’s story. And trust me, it was worth every single second of every single minute I had to wait.
Cali has been wandering around in the Badlands while Rome has been taking care of business. Tito just won’t leave her alone and keeps trying to tell her how she should feel and all that jazz. As a side note, I really hate it when someone tells a person what they feel, how they should feel, or shame them for how they feel. That’s just utter crap. Anyhow.
There are all kinds of secrets going on in this series. I mean, the secrets have secrets, and they may have gotten together and bred more secrets. Did I mention that there are all kinds of secrets? When all those secrets started coming out, my jaw seriously dropped. I didn’t expect any of them. I love it when that happens. I love to have that total surprise.
Man, this book did just knock me out. I hated Rome. I loved Rome. I hated Cali. I loved Cali. You get the idea. I was so happy when the book ended the way that it did, but I did get left with wanting more, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Sick – Perverted – Offensive – Twisted
What can I say I absolutely FLOVED it!!
Again Bennett delivers flawlessly-
I found myself bathing in the deep end of the dark and deliciously twisted pool of sadistic romantic savagery that is Calista and Romero
There are no roses in this relationship – but there are plenty of “gifts” that are crimson in nature and given with a fiendish brutality that will leave you breathless – and possibly a bit queasy
Just wait for it — the twists and secrets that are exposed in Deviants – one bombshell after another
This is book two in what I am hoping is a series.. There are just too many great characters that I want more of -yeah -I am really greedy that way
As I’ve just finished Deviants I’m left pretty speechless. Deviants is a bloodied, twisted, degraded, sinful, and vile read. I loved every single page of it! I’ll go ahead and warn you now, do not read without reading Savages first. Also this isn’t a book for the faint hearted. Cali and Romero are so fecking amazing together. They are both bloodthirsty, immoral, perverted, and the perfect king and queen of the Badlands. Natalie Bennett has a way with words and seamlessly knocks you on your ass while teleporting you into a world you aren’t sure you’d ever survive. It’s a world I want to revisit over and over again.
Cali has finally decided to let the chains go on her inner demon and selfishly take whatever she wants. Romero is still his secreted self and their relationship will go down as my top favorite sick couple. Romero and Cali feed off of each other, they also feed off of death and blood. We find out so many secrets, we are also left with a few questions that will never be answered because Romero doesn’t want to answer those. Maybe we will get it with Grimm and Arlen’s books. Romero has me wrapped around his pinky and I want to know every single thing that makes him tick. Cali and Romero together equals psychopathic heaven.
I’m more in love with this book than I thought possible. Even though I’ve just finished this book I’m itching to go back and read it again. I’m still new to dark reads and Natalie Bennett has me hooked beyond belief. The characters and world building are flawless. The savagery of the world is what I’d expect if something like that happened now. Survival of the fittest. A king needs his queen, and Romero found that in Cali.
