Fresh out of prison after serving a three-year sentence, Johnathan Marcello wants to get back to normal business as a mafia capo. The rules set out for him are clear—keep out of trouble, maintain a low profile, and stay stable. But stability is a delicate balance for a man like John, and shaky ground is only a single step away. A chance encounter with a blue-eyed woman might just change his whole … change his whole world.
Siena Calabrese’s life revolves around cooking numbers, and scrubbing books clean. After all, a girl is only useful to men in the mafia, if she isn’t totally useless. As long as she does what they want, then she can maintain the illusion of freedom. But illusions are only delusions in the grand scheme of her life, and reality is far more dangerous.
A man with secrets might just be the one thing she didn’t know she needed.
In this life, family is everything. Or, that’s how it should be.
Distrust.
Love.
Betrayal.
Loyalty.
Mix it all together, and it makes for a volatile city.
A war is coming.

I wanted soo much to read about John, while reading legacy novella. I was intrigued by him. I knew that he has some story to tell. Oh God! It’s not just some story… it’s everything. It was so interesting getting to know John, his struggles, his joys, how he felt, how he thought his family saw him, and watching him fall in love with Siena. Getting into his mind and all the emotions he felt and not only what he experienced, but how he experienced things was at times heartbreaking, but for that I loved him even more. Siena is an amazing character and is exactly what John needs. She stays with him, loyal to him even in his darkest ours. Will they be strong enough to survive more than Johnathan’s condition and surpass it while the raging mafia war will most surely ask for more than just choosing sides…
I am a big fan of all Bethany-Kris books and loyalty is no different. It was good!! Like Really really good and I so cannot wait to get more of their story.
This book had me all over the place with my feelings. I loved how Bethany took the chance on writing a book as in-depth as this one about mental illness and how it not only affects family relationships but also romantic ones. The rollercoaster John goes through on a daily basis due to his illness will have you going on a rollercoaster ride as well. You cannot help but feel what these characters are feeling due to the wonderful writing ability from Bethany.
Everything John had to deal with broke my heart and made me just want to reach into the book and hug him and never let go.
Another MUST read from Bethany-Kris, can’t wait to see where she takes John and Siena from here.
** spoiler alert **
I hate a cliffy but I love this author and her books. This book was different with John having bipolar disorder and you don’t see that sort of stuff in may of the mafia books. I liked it. Great book and hopefully it will be a great series. Now we just have to wait.
Title: Loyalty John & Siena Book 1
Author: Bethany-Kris
Publication Date: April 2, 2018
This book was a gut wrenching look into a disorder that plagues many people. The author handled it very well and I could feel the pain the H went through as well as the worry his loved ones felt.
Absolutely loved it.
5 amazing !! I am so hooked with Marcello’s!! Bethany Kris is definitely a genius regarding mafia romance tales !!! Another excellent read!!
Johnathan “John” Marcello is having to start his life over. He’s also dealing with something that I applaud this author for taking on. He’s a voice to what a lot of people in his situation probably feel – we all hate labels. It may seem like we don’t need outside help but sometimes it’s exactly what we do need.
Siena Calabrese meets John in an unusual way – at least when you consider their families. I would have liked to have been sitting nearby – yes, I wanted to eavesdrop. Siena shows the gender differences in their family dynamic. Kind of like my own family – boys had their chores and girls had theirs.
This story has a lot going on but it works. Everything moves smoothly. And the author knows how to tease. Granted this is a work of fiction but it’s interspersed with what seems like reality. It stinks how some people have to struggle to be a part of society and even a part of their own family. And unless you experience it for yourself, you just cannot understand.
This book was tagged as erotic but I didn’t really see that fit. It was hot, it was steamy, and it was very sexy. I would even say psychological but erotic means something totally different to me. Our couple is very hot and their relationship has its ups and downs. The author does a lot of world and character building here and that includes the interactions with their respective families. I also got a sense of manipulation both for our couple and for the reader. The author guides our minds where she wants us to go and it’s a trip that I very much enjoyed. There is no ending but an anticipation of what is yet to come.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
