If you want a damsel in distress saved right, sometimes you have to save her yourself. With Amel’s friend Savette kidnapped, Amel hoped people would believe her about how important it is to rescue Savette. Unfortunately, all they want from her is her silence and obedience and they are willing to threaten both her life and her dragon Raolcan’s to get it. That’s not enough to stop Amel. She’s … Amel. She’s determined that Savette will be rescued and she won’t be stopped by threats or powerful enemies.
Fans of Anne McCaffrey’s Dragon Riders of Pern, Christopher Paolini’s Eragon and Rachel E. Carter’s First Year will love Dragon School.

I can say this is the best book yet in the series. There is plenty of intrigue, mystery, and adventure to keep you enthralled till the very end. I loved seeing Amel finally make some friends who are there to have her back when she’s been on her own as an outcast from everyone for so long. She has really grown as a character and person which is inspiring. She’s a bit naive and can never see the bad in hardly anyone which is a bit eccentric, but it works for her. By now, she’s done so many things that could kick her out of the Dragon School that I wonder if she’ll ever be welcomed back to it. The political maneuvering continues, but isn’t as confusing as the previous book. I hope it continues to be somewhat intricate to keep things interesting and a puzzle to figure out as you keep going in the series.
Despite having her life and that of her beloved dragon threatened for her silence and obidence (from different people) Amel has had enough waiting around, holding her tounge.
With no knot of her own, she was put in a new group when she reached the Ruby Ilses, with: Lenora, Artis, and twins Olla and Orra. Together they will study and help each other pass their upcoming tests, as the rush for more full dragon riders is still in effect. While Amel studies hard she can’t help but notice that nothing is really being done about Savette’s abduction and Starie’s involvement in everything. A high Castelan’s word is worth more than someone with no status, and Leng has been missing since right after the attack. It’s just her word against Staire’s. When she realizes that Starie is to replace Savette as the prince’s bride, Amel knows she just can’t sit back anymore.
As she plans her rescue mission with Roalcan, she finds that she may have more allies than enemies. She gets some very useful tips to help her successfully escape, and then even more help when she gets to where she needs to be. Unfortunately, not everyone who comes to aid her in her mission is really with her. The more time that passes, the less likely she will be able to find her friend or figure out what’s really going on.
Will Amel, Roalcan and few surprise allies be able to save Savette and stop the Majika’s once and for all? What will happen to all the students when / if they return to dragon school? Amel was determined to do one thing: save her friend – but will everything else she comes away with matter? They were so close to being sworn in their colors, but now they’ll either be seen as heros and allowed to continue, or worse, as traitors and permanently stripped of their titles.
The Ruby Ilses by Sarah K. L. Wilson is the fourth episode of her Dragon School serial. This is an action packed YA fantasy story.
So far this installment has been my favorite. We spend some time in the Ruby Ilses, but then we end up at Daedru Castel and the sprawling sky-city of Vanika (Vanika is the 5th largest sky city). So, the world expands even more and I love the idea of sky cities! We don’t really meet any new characters, but we do get a closer look into the ones who have already been introduced. We also get a better idea of what the Majika’s are up to, too. I really enjoyed seeing that Amel had more allies than she thought she did. They might not all be considered her friends, but it was cool to see people want to help her cause. I loved how she was willing to risk everything to help save her one human friend, and that Roalcan was more than willing to be by her side through it all.
There was a lot of important information given to us in this episode, but one thing I’ve been wondering about since the beginning was how the magic worked in this world. I’m happy that there was a bit of an explanation on how dragon riders are able to bound dragons to certain places and people, but I wish it went a little deeper. For example: can anyone be taught word magic? Why do humans and dragons who are bonded together get a unique design on their arms / wings? Hopefully, this will be better explained in the future. Though, to be honest, I do really love how Sarah K. L. Wilson keeps her readers guessing and doesn’t just give us random “info dumps” along the way.
Amel really steps up her game in this part and I love how no matter whats at stake she’s strong willed enough to do the right thing, especially for those she feels most loyal to. With Leng being gone for most of this part, it didn’t feel awkward with their almost romance, which I was glad for. I hope that after everything Amel did this time will make him understand she’s more capable of doing things than he thinks she is.
I’m excited to see what will happen to Amel and everyone involved in the rescue now that this part is over, in terms of Dragon school. Will they be punished for their troubles or rewarded? On to the next to see!
This serial is free on KU, so read it if you can!
Amel’s story continues. Everyone wants something from her, whether silence or answers and there are drastic consequences no matter what she does. All Amel wants is to save her friend and no one seems to want to help. Amel takes risks to do what she feels is right. This story is hard to put down. I look forward to finding out what happens next.
Love this series.!.
This is the fourth book in the Dragon School series and picks up right where book three left off. I can not get enough of Raolcan and Amel, I also love how Raolcan talks a little more in this one compared to the others. As always there is action and suspense to keep you entranced into the book and I personally can not wait to see what happens in the next book.
Okay, so… things get real very quickly at the end of The Dark Prince and no one is happy! The Magickas have kidnapped Savette, but no one seems eager to rescue her… except for Amel, it seems. Due to Leng’s interference (even though he really was trying to help), Savette was taken from the prince’s side. Unfortunately, that’s not the only problem. Starie was able to explain her side in all of this and it completely contradicts Amel’s version of events. Just like before, social and economic status plays a role. Because she’s not a High Castelan, the Dragon School is not going to believe her. But Amel has bigger fish to fry! The Dark Prince wants to speak with her… and that’s never a good thing, especially since she was just threatened by Grandis Elfar, a full Dragon Rider and teacher. If Amel reveals anything to the prince, whether true or false, she’ll be expelled from Dragon School, lowered to the life of a servant, and will lose Raolcan forever. Plot Twist The prince knows Amel knows both Savette and Starie and wants a full report on both. Who can he trust and rule with? Amel has three days to come back with that information or not only will she forfeit her life, she’ll forfeit Raolcan’s as well. The plot thickens!
On top of dealing with all of this, Amel still needs to rescue Savette. However, the only person who knows her location… Starie. Sigh Can Amel get the information to rescue Savette or will she succumb to the pressure put on her from every which way? There is so much happening in these 81 pages! While it’s not overwhelming, a lot is happening. Everything that is happening has to happen and Amel finds allies in the most unlikely people. Every page was a page turner and left me wanting more.
Oh Wow just when you think it just couldn’t get any better it Does. Amel is fed up that no one seem to take her seriously so she sneaks out of school with her AWESOME dragon RAOLCAN to go rescue Savette by herself. the knot she is with follow her to Ruby Isles to help. I really like Lenora and I’m really hoping she is a real friend. With a few turns she gets to the place Savette is held. Will Amel and her new helpers be able to rescue her in time I cant wait for epi 5
