I think if you check my Goodreads and the my blog it becomes clear that I love Keri Arthur’ books. I practically read everything from her. Her latest release, Hell’s bell was beyond amazing. I loved every minute of it.
My favorite thing about the author’s style is her way and talent when it comes to creating incredible and complex worlds for her stories and while the Lizzie Garce series doesn’t have the most intricate one of those but it still phenomenal and works really well with the storyline. However in this case what sealed the deal for me was the complexity and the dynamism of the plot. It doesn’t slow down for one chapter and every time you think you figured things out there comes a twist from your blind side, throwing everything into a newfound frenzy. It was so exhilarating and engaging that I was up all night finishing it up.
Lizzie and Belle are getting more and more comfortable in their new little home but there are a couple of things that that looks like to threaten their position from different directions. This book is definitely more emotional than the first one and I loved it even more because of it.
I like Lizzie, she is resourceful and crafty but for someone who wants to stay hidden she is also a bit too eager to jump into trouble. It’s mostly because of her soft heart but I think it’s partially because learning new things about the supernatural fascinates her. I think there is so much more to her powers than suggested because for someone who supposedly doesn’t have a lot of raw power she achieves huge things with it.
What I also liked about this book is the relationship between her and Aiden. They are in this kind of in-between stage with the looming truth of the impossibility of their relationship hanging over their heads. There are a lot of obstacles standing in their way and they may enjoy a fleeting affair but a long-lasting romance is a hard feat with the rules and expectations around them. You just know that heartbreak is right around the corner and it puts and extra emotional shadow over the whole book. I love these kind of relationships where the odds are stacked against the couple.
The story is extremely fast paced and eventful, really enjoyable and shows a lot of new aspects about the world. What I would love is to get to know more about that ominous past of the girls, which is constantly mentioned but nothing concert or overly detailed. I know that it only was the second book that it’s starting to get frustrating to constantly hear about something without the necessary parts to actually weight the situation.
I love Keri Arthur’s books. Her charachters are complex. I recommend this series, They are a great read and I can’t wait for the next book. (hint-hint)
I love this series so much, I haunt the author’s website, ever watchful for the slightest hint of the next book’s release date. I know. It’s creepy 😛
Hell’s Bell is the second book. The series is an urban fantasy but different, set on a werewolf reservation in Australia. The main character is a witch on the run. There’s a doomed love interest, lots of action and plenty of questions to keep you hanging out for the next instalment!
When the characters are good and you find out there is a series, it is a win-win!
I’m loving the Lizzie Grace books, and this one was just as great as the first one. Lizzie Grace and her witch familiar and best friend, Belle Kent, have opened up a business on a werewolf reservation, where witches aren’t welcome. They’ve gathered some support from some of the inhabitants after they helped with a killer vampire, but they still aren’t sure if they’ll be allowed to stay. When Lizzie senses evil and hears bells tolling. she and Belle investigate and find a murder victim. Lizzie calls ranger Aiden O’Connor, who has not only begun to support the two witch’s presence but has asked Lizzie out on a date. The attraction is mutual, if only they can find time to go on that date between the growing body count and the danger stalking Lizzie. The relationship between Lizzie and Belle is fun, especially with Belle able to telepathically communicate (and read her mind), so Lizzie never has any secrets from her familiar. It was entertaining seeing all the obstacles Lizzie and the hot werewolf go through trying to go on their date, especially with everyone on the reservation placing bets on it. We learned more about the witches background and got more insight into how they work together, which I thought was pretty cool. I can’t wait to read the next installment, which I hope comes soon.
