The breathtaking companion novella to Twisted Truth from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kendra Elliot.A torrential two-day storm has cut off the small town of Solitude, Oregon, from the outside world. But for police officers Stevie Duncan and her husband, Zane, the ravages of nature have nothing on the nature of man. In the last forty-eight hours, a child was a mute witness to a double … was a mute witness to a double homicide; an unidentified body has washed up on the riverbanks; and now, at the foot of a submerged bridge, two FBI agents have been found shot to death inside their SUV. What’s worse, the young charge they were enlisted to protect has gone missing.
With the only exit out of town washed away, Stevie and Zane know that the murderer is trapped. But whatever’s going on in Solitude is far from over—because as sure as the receding water, the killer is going to resurface.

This story is the second book in this short novella series. In this conclusion, the story introduces Stevie and Zane Duncan, husband and wife duo of the Solitude police force. Zane is now Chief of Police and holds his share of demons when it concerns children as well.
The story picks up where Twisted Truth leaves off with the child leaving with his uncle and the two FBI agents guarding them. Everyone believes that the case is over but far from being closed when the two FBI agents are found shot to death in their vehicle and the uncle and child go missing again.
The rain has not let up and the town continues to flood in all areas…turning the town into its own little island I think. Stevie and Zane are now looking for the individuals who have murdered the FBI agents. One thing on their side is that no one can escape due to the flooding so there is only so many places the killer could hide.
Not only do they not have to track a murderer, they find a dead body washed up from the flood while on lookout for two brothers who are considered suspects and are supposedly there to elk hunt. The story turns into a fast pace police story where they uncover a competitor’s need to kidnap the child, the uncle’s willingness to sell him at a high price, Zane getting over his demons to save a child when one was lost in his past, and the one-the-run father, Wade coming to his son’s rescue.
It is a great mystery book that has it twists and turns with uncovering the bottom of why the child meant so much to everyone and why people were being killed to get their hands on him. I found it very engaging until the end, it had its compelling events, genuine characters with realistic issues and overall a well-written and entertaining story.
Another good listen narrated by Kate Rudd
This one took over right where the last book ended and they are still in the deluge of rain and cut off from the rest of society. Stevie and her Police Chief husband Zane are trying to maintain and get by and find out what happened to the murdered FBI agents while looking for Liam and his uncle without more bodies turning up. This one would have been better if it was just longer and fleshed out more. Kendra is such a great author and should not be limited to these short stories!
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
Great story with plenty of action, suspense and emotional scenes. Wonderful narration by Kate again she does a perfect job bringing life and individuality to each of these wonderful characters. Definitely recommend this book.
Need to read book one b/4 book 2. But love the Solitude, Oregon family of law enforcements.
If you like reading romance, officers of the law and a little action you will like this.
Stevie and Zane are newly married when the river floods and all he’ll breaks loose. There’s multiple shootings and everyone seems to be after a young boy. A lot of twists and turns to this one. Throw in a flood, and it’s a real mess. Had me guessing until the end
I love these novellas with the Taylor families. If you enjoy a good mystery with action and especially the warmth of a wonderful family, these books are for you. All the characters have different qualities that bring their own enjoyment to the stories. I always look forward to Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh books. They compliment each other so well.
