Frightened, hiding from what’s hunting them in the dark, surviving humans and aliens of The Order must work together to save the planet from being devoured by the Scourge. Join the survivors as they encounter the fierce, merciless creatures that follow their primal instincts to feed their hunger and procreate. Will this be the end of the human race?
This is Book 3 of a trilogy, but since it ends on a cliffhanger, I can only hope that the author decides to continue the story!
If you don’t want to know what happens, quit reading this review now! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
All of the characters who have survived so far are back in this book. There are now two races of aliens, called the Order (the good guys) and the Scourge (the bad guys), who are invading Earth. The Order is trying to find a new planet away from the Scourge since the Scourge’s favorite food is the Order. The Scourge have to be one of the most frightening beings that I have read in a long, long time. Nothing seems to be able to stop them and their appetite is never ending. Their whole reason for living seems to be to eat either humans or the Order. The Order appears to be trying to help the humans survive while trying to save themselves as well.
Our beloved characters from the previous books finally seem to have gotten smarter and not so trusting. You have some young girls, teenaged boys with attitude, evil biker gangs, a dog named Max that somehow has managed to survive and a growing romantic relationship or two. You also have a pretty badass Japanese gentleman who knows how to use a machine gun. All in all, a bunch of great characters that you hope will be able to survive (except for the Crusaders….you just want them to die a violent death!).
I was expecting this book to wrap up the story, but it doesn’t. Instead, you have a surprise ending that definitely leaves the reader wanting more. This trilogy has progressed into a totally different direction than I thought it would when I first started reading it and the writer’s skill has progressed as well. She has written a book that is definitely one to either scare you or give you nightmares!
This book does have quite a bit of cursing, so if that is offensive, steer clear. But, to be honest, who wouldn’t be cursing if they were being pursued by aliens who want to make you their lunch!
The narrator does a great job and really added a lot to my enjoyment of the book. I was given a chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book through Audiobook Worm and chose to review it.
The series continues with this book where we see the struggle to survive an attack from all directions. I really enjoyed this book and hope the next will be released soon.
When the last book ended we knew a war was coming to Earth and the big question was will the survivors of the virus be able to fight against an unknown enemy who sees them as a food source.
There wasn’t as much advancing as far as the story goes in this book. I cant figure out if that was the author’s plan – to basically start and end this book within the same day.
The Scourge have landed and they are hungry. Along with devouring the human race they are also taking select human females for breeding.
Ellie and Mike are hiding out in a Cafe along with the group they have picked up along the way. They are just trying to stay hidden from the Scourge who they have now witnessed eating other humans.
Amanda and Bill are still holed up in her apartment feeling sad over turning Bill’s son over to The Order’s (good aliens) Susan and Liam who are trying to figure out how he survived the virus and how much of a telepathic link he has to the Scourge. The two end up getting separated when they both become hunted by the Scourge.
We are also introduced to a couple new characters. Kylie is a sophomore in high school who is having to live with her Uncle Jack after the virus wiped out her family. In the apartment building they are staying in there is a senior boy name Ethan who she is attracted to. While Jack is out Kylie comes under attack from the aliens and is taken back to their ship. But they don’t want to eat her – they want to breed her for future food sources.
I loved the first two books in the series so hoping the next book in the series gets back to the greatness of those.
