Does a curse only work if you believe it does? Chosen to be a priestess from childhood, Athena knows everything about aligning her energy with the universe and spreading hope, healing, and wisdom to people. But her inner balance is disturbed when Finn shows up on her doorstep. The large, annoyingly flirtatious man kept her imprisoned in the past and now demands she lift the spell she cast on him. … the spell she cast on him. Rather than explain to him that the spell wasn’t real, Athena sees her chance of teaching him a lesson in karma and makes demands of her own. Finn will allow her full power over him for five full days or live with the curse forever.
The Seducer is the fourth installment in Elin Peer’s wildly popular series Men of the North. Like all her other books it offers humor, a fast pace, and an emotional roller-coaster that will leave you breathless.

OK this author is very talented. I compare this series of books to the show the Game of Thrones. It would make a great TV series. She continues to define the characters beautifully with all their faults and there praises. If you’re lucky enough to listen to these books on audible the narration is superb – 10+ stars I would give it. I’m looking forward to reading and may be listening to the next book.
Received an ARC copy for my honest review. I was waiting and wondering how Elin Peer would handle the flirtatious Finn. In a previous novel, we met Finn who was given the task of protecting Athena. During that time period, Athena placed a curse on him. The Seducer is the story of Finn and Athena. She demands that Finn give her back the 5 days (when she had to obey his orders) by living in her house under her rules. Being the kind, wise priestess she is, she taught him about meditation and self discovery. I loved how Athena interacted with Finn, how these two people from totally different cultures managed to make it work. Enjoy!
So I know that this is book 4 and I’m just now reviewing it. I initially intended to do a series review, but have since learned that this series has been expanded beyond the 5 books that it initially planned for. I’m not complaining one bit. But I decided that since the journey has been extended I didn’t want to wait until the conclusion of the series to voice my thoughts.
While this could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading it in numerical order. As that will allow you to be fully immersive into the world of NMen and Motlanders. Already a little lost, let’s bring you up to speed. There was a toxic war and now we are in the year 2437, society is split, men control the north and women the south. Both sides think they are the superior to the other. They are working towards integration. That’s the gist of it.
So now to focus more on the book at hand. Finn and Athena are first introduced in book one, so you can imagine the storyline build up that we finally get to explore their story in book four. I was excited to see this book come to life and was thrilled with every turn that Elin allowed to dwell in.
We not only had the chance to explore each character further but also had the chance to catch up on previous characters and where they currently fall in the timeline. I think Elin tackle the time frame fantastic, as with such a large cast things can often become muddled. But everything seemed to match up on the timeline. While the exploration of Finn and Athena relationship emerged we were also given insight into Finn’s disturbing past. His friendship with Magni, his horror of a mentor and his power to hide behind seduction as a way to mask his pain.
This book shows the growth of the two both physically, emotionally and spiritually. While the main focus is the budding relationship you also get to see how each one has affected the lives of those they come into contact with, While they both have different approaches on how to handle certain situations, they both eventually find a good comprise that surprise the world as a whole.
I was given this ARC for my honest review and was thrilled since I’ve so enjoyed this series.
Finn MacCumhail was an easy-going person, but if there’s one thing I don’t like, it’s people disturbing his sleep. Being a doctor means that he has taken his share of night duty, and that every night he gets a full night’s sleep is sacred. He was an Nman or man from the North. At 34 Fin was shorter than some of the other Nmen, he stood 6’3″ tall with wide shoulders and his neck wasn’t the only thick part on him.
She was a Priestess from the Motherland. Athena had long auburn red hair, green eyes, and a tattoo that started between the woman’s eyebrows moving up her forehead in an intricate design above her apple cheeks, Her skin was fair over her small frame making her look like a child, no more than 19 or 20 even though she was 30. Above all else, even though some people said that Karma was a bitch, but Athena thought karma was like a patient mother watching out for her children. If one needed a lesson in humility or empathy, she would it.
Once again Elin has woven traits into these characters than make them so relatable that to follow the storyline is like reliving a tale being personally told. My heart was racing at time with tears streaming down my face, her words vividly coming to life before my eyes. This book was such an emotional journey, both good and heart wrenching, that by the time I reached the HEA I felt almost euphoric. In my opinion, this has been the best book so far in the series. Definitely a 5 star recommendation
Wow, it just keeps getting better and better. Elin Peer has a way of creating characters who are well developed and complex – just like real life. These stories take on a life of their own and I find myself so vested that I can’t put the book down. Ever since the first book I read by Mrs. Peer (The Accidental Slave), I’ve been hooked. She manages to create worlds/settings that are rich and I have no problem imagining in my head. She has a lot of talent and I have not been disappointed in reading any of her books. The Seducer definitely fits into that category. I find I have a favorite new couple with each new Men of the North Books. I anxiously await the next one!
Oh, Finn!
On your first “date” you stripped her, gagged her and tied her to the bed!
From what I’ve seen of you before… this is not your usual method of seduction.
But then Athena is not your usual conquest, is she?
She gets under your skin with her prejudiced attitudes and her Momsie ways. She messes with your mind and makes you… crazed.
And then there’s that curse she put on you.
I just have one question: Who’s seducing whom?
The Seducer is book 4 in the Men of the North series, and I was looking forward to it with great anticipation.
I was not disappointed!
This is a story to get lost in. Let your imagination go wild. There are so many things to “see” and do. Meanwhile, the wonderful and wacky twist on our social norms goes on… Can’t wait to find out what’s next.
Bottom line: Completely seduced by this series. 5 stars.
very interesting book, love how you follow all the characters in all the books, and the insight how the future could be.
It’s payback time for playboy Finn MacCumhail, and Motlander priestess Athena knows just how to give him his proper comeuppance.
I love how Athena puts Finn in his place by putting him in HER place! This was a very cleverly done plot line that had me hooked from page one. I wondered how things would play out if an Nman had to play by Motlander rules, and I was not disappointed. Peer has created a series that I CRAVE and cannot seem to get enough of. I find myself thinking about her characters as if they were real people that I know and wondering how they are doing and what they are “up to” in between books. It is something VERY special, when an author can make you think about characters in such a tangible way. And, Peer definitely has that magical, literary touch.
There really only one thing left to say: BRING ON MAGNI’S STORY!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I’m sorry I’m not going to put any spoilers of any kind down. But I will say this, the story between Finn and Athena has become my favorite out of all the Men Of The North books so far. Finn is the perfect blend of sweet and tough, serious and funny, vulnerable and overbearing and somehow Elin Peer managed to make him perfect in my eyes ( I’d date him if he was a actual man ). Now Athena she showed her sweet vulnerable side but she also showed that she has a backbone made of pure steel and that she won’t bow down and obey. Basically Finn and Athena were perfect for each other they both had an element that the other needed.. Elin Peer’s Men Of The North just keep getting better and better. Her way of weaving her stories keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen next, she pulls you into the story she’s weaving and you are both main characters and you are actually experiencing what they are going through and that is pure talent. I went through every emotion while reading this book and by the time I got to the end I felt like I had just ran a marathon. I can hardly wait for The Warrior because knowing Elin she’s probably going to blast us out of our seats!!
I don’t know where to start with this book. Elin Peer has introduced us to a world where women rule and are divided and “protected” from the Men of the North. As we get further into the series Athena now gets the chance to one up Finn since he is coming to her part of the world. Finn, *deep sigh*, oh Finn has a story. One that only Magni is aware of. His humor hides so much. Athena wants to know more about them and their culture. She wants to understand but has no idea what that may mean.
These two. I laughed, well duh we are talking about Finn after all. I cried huge crocodile tears because this author just knows when and how to do that. I held my breath and I was there with them as their walls came down and they together helped to share the peace and wisdom of their love. This author is amazing and yes one of my one-clickers because I know there is always a story that is intense, entertaining, complete with characters that are real and probably your neighbor. Perfect addition to this series.
ARC provided for an honest review.
I’ll never get enough of this series. I love each and every one of those characters. On one hand you have this amazing yumie Nmen and on the other hand powerful and strong willed women who don’t let them boss them around.
All the books of this series walk a very fine line but never tilt on one side or the other. The author does an amazing job of finding the middle ground where both sides meet without sacrifice from either of them and without the reader taking a side. Lastly, Elin Peer makes me believe that when there’s love, everything is possible and every problem is solvable
Some words about the The Seducer: this is the book of Finn and Athena. We met them in a previous book when Magni kidnapped Athena with the hope that Motherlanders will exchange her for his wife who left him. Finn was her guard/protector until they released her 5 days later and she was able to go back. The book takes place 6 months after that incident where Finn visits Athena cause he wants the curse she put on him to be lifted. Athena knowing is the only chance she’ll get for some Karma she offers a deal to him: He’ll stay with her and follow her orders for five days and she’ll lift her fake curse. Finn not knowing any better agrees.
I knew I would love Finns book. He came out as a funny and happy go lucky type of guy in the previous ones but I had this feeling that that was his armor. I hoped that Elin Peer had an amazing story in store for him cause he deserved it and she did not disappoint me. No Sirie. Finn who is a doctor with secrets and a past that haunts him finds peace and love in the eyes of a priestess who can see and appreciate the man he became.
I can’t recommend more this series. The main story of every book BUT also the big story that plays in the background are awesome. This is one of the very few series that I’ll be re-reading in the future. I guarantee that.
