The incredible, harrowing account of how American democracy was hacked by Moscow as part of a covert operation to influence the U.S. election and help Donald Trump gain the presidency. “Russian Roulette is…the most thorough and riveting account.” — The New York Times Russian Roulette is a story of political skullduggery unprecedented in American history. It weaves together tales of … in American history. It weaves together tales of international intrigue, cyber espionage, and superpower rivalry. After U.S.-Russia relations soured, as Vladimir Putin moved to reassert Russian strength on the global stage, Moscow trained its best hackers and trolls on U.S. political targets and exploited WikiLeaks to disseminate information that could affect the 2016 election.
The Russians were wildly successful and the great break-in of 2016 was no “third-rate burglary.” It was far more sophisticated and sinister — a brazen act of political espionage designed to interfere with American democracy. At the end of the day, Trump, the candidate who pursued business deals in Russia, won. And millions of Americans were left wondering, what the hell happened? This story of high-tech spying and multiple political feuds is told against the backdrop of Trump’’s strange relationship with Putin and the curious ties between members of his inner circle — including Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn — and Russia.
Russian Roulette chronicles and explores this bizarre scandal, explains the stakes, and answers one of the biggest questions in American politics: How and why did a foreign government infiltrate the country’’s political process and gain influence in Washington?

This book explained the ins & outs of the Russia investigation in easy to follow detail. A must read for anyone who wants to know the players and evidence available.
It’s a pleasure and a pain to read this dot-connecting work. The work of Isikoff and Corn is why journalism is more essential than ever. The book brings together so many details of this scandal that it’s hard at times to mentally bring it together, but the book is essential reading on this unbelievable story. A must-read for anyone interested in current politics in America and Russia.
This was an excellent book, written by an erudite and thorough journalist with an excellent reputation for unbiased and thorough research.
I believe that any reader should also read Gregg Jarrett’s “The Russian Hoax,” which relates exactly the same events, the same actions by each member of the cast of characters, and doesn’t differ an iota in WHAT happened. All of the evidence is presented by both authors.
What’s interesting is the difference in the way both authors analyze the motives, the meanings, and the consequences. The facts are, of course, unbiased. But the interpretation of why those events occurred are quite different; and it’s one of the most intriguing puzzles of the century.
For those who are interested in considering the sensational political events of the past couple of decades and applying critical thinking and the scientific method to come up with their own conclusions (which all of us should do), the combination of these two books provide all of the research necessary.
I’m familiar with David Corn, who is a reliable voice for progressive causes on cable programs. But he and Isikoff have done a credible job dissecting some of the real and possible strands connecting the Kremlin with Donald Trump’s White House. Much of this is still pending the release of the Mueller report, but these two reporters have pieced together an impressive stack of damning evidence. There does come a point where a reader feels: okay, there’s more . . . and more . . . and more. The litany is wearying at times, but that’s just the way this troubling history is currently unfolding as we all watch and wait.
What a complex story this Russian thing is !! It is hard to follow normally but this book explained and informed it. Surely one of the most important crises in American history I think we all need to understand it. This was a great book and it helped to clarify and inform the public by tracing all the various threads to the logical conclusion. Good job thanks guys.
Intensively researched, puts what we know from public reporting, theirs and others, in a way that opens questions of consequences.
If you’ve been paying attention, especially to how Rachel Maddow’s been laying everything out over the past year and a half, then you already know most of what’s in this book. But it is crazy to see it all gathered together in one book. It was interesting to read some of the behind-the-scenes info from the Clinton campaign and Obama White House while all of this was going down. What a world.
Frightening! I pray this book is really fiction!
In light of today’s sotuation this book is informative. Well written and riveting.
What they’ve written in their book is so on the mark.
What they uncovered first is becoming revealed to the world – after they’ve told about it.
A must-read.
Well-researched by two of the best investigative reporters of our time.
After reading this book I can not figure out how or why we have the Trump presidency. Every American should read this book and take a look at how they voted and why? Scary that a foreign country can control the American citizen and no one does anything about it1
