A ruthless pothunter in search of valuable artifacts ravages an ancient-Indian burial site in the beautiful LaSal Mountains of southeastern Utah. That same day, he’s found brutally murdered. Deputy Sheriff Manny Rivera suspects the killing is related to recent demonstrations and acts of lawlessness fomented by the radicalized Heritage Protection Society, an organization dedicated to the … the protection of ancient-Indian burial sites. But a subsequent sequence of deadly crimes suggests a more sinister motive, one which also threatens the deputy’s life.
The story is set in the majestic red rock canyon country that surrounds Moab, Utah.

I enjoyed this book because the central character wasn’t some otherwordly ass kicking detective. Nor even a detective with a drinks problem or whose brother in laws best friend has been kidnapped. It was set in a real world which sounded a pleasure.
I’ll be looking out for more of this down to earth writer’s works.
A quick read…I finished it which has not been the case with some freebie books lately! An interesting enuf read that I stayed up a bit later than usual to finish it
A good read, one that takes you thoroughly into the time and place, the geography and cultures around Moab Utah. I learned a lot, and enjoyed the book.
I thought it fell short on believable dialogue – almost all the dialogue was to inform or make a point, and was delivered like a straightforward essay.
That was my only nit. An enjoyable read, and I would read another book in this series
