Lacey lost her parents to a robbery gone wrong. She watched a guy shoot her mom right in front of her. And as the years go by she’s in one foster home to another. She has a boyfriend and things are starting to feel right. But one day she comes home early and finds her fiancé plowing her best friend. That’s all it takes she’s done. She finds a ad for a roommate in Seattle. And she takes it. A clean fresh break in a new town is exactly what she needs. But soon after arriving, she’s drugged at a bar. Thankfully the bar owner finds her and is determined to find out who’s behind it.
Lacey went through quite a bit in her young life. She lost both of her parents when she was a child and it was very traumatic. In fact, it seemed to turn her into someone else for a while. Fast forward several years and she finds her best friend and her fiance in bed together. She packs up and suddenly moves far away. Finds a random roomie who invites her to a questionable club where things start getting dangerous for Lacey. In steps Cory to protect her but frankly, he’s kind of domineering at times. To be honest, I liked the lesser characters the best. They were really interesting and really made the story. Huge cliff hanger. It was a pretty good debut book! 3.5 stars
I really enjoyed this book. It was intriguing and suspenseful and that ending completely gutted me. As I was reading it, I immediately thought of the movie Fatal Attraction. I couldn’t stop reading it until it was finished. And after it ended all I could think was how much tragedy could one person deal with. Well done Reagan Hollow.
WOW! For this to be Hollow’s first book, you would have no idea from her writing. She has done a great job connecting with the characters and bringing them to life. From the beginning you will be drawn to Lacey and I loved reading about her. The only thing I did not like about this book was that there is a huge cliffhanger! I am so ready for book 2! You really don’t want to miss out on this incredible new author!
Lacey is travelling on a holiday with her parents, when everything goes wrong. Lacey gets moved around from foster home to foster home, until a new case worker finds her a permanent home, but it’s away from her hometown.
After finishing high school everything seems to finally be working for her with her life seeming to be perfect, until she arrives home at her apartment and her world falls apart. Deciding that she needs to get away from everything, she finds an apartment in Seattle, and becomes fast friends with her new room-mate Amber.
Amber takes Lacey to her work and she feels Cory first before she sees him, the way he makes her feels she has never felt before, but the night takes a turn when Lacey collapses and wakes up in Cory’s bed. Cory has an instant protectiveness over Lacey, determined to find out who drugged her.
Cory and Lacey share some steamy moments, with their connection undeniable, then Lacey gets confused when he wants her close but doesn’t touch her. Learning why Cory has been holding back, Lacey says it doesn’t matter and Cory lets her know there’s no going back now and although Lacey knows there will be complications she decides he’s worth it.
Cory wants Lacey to attend a charity function with him, when Lacey sees what he sends for her to wear, Lacey feels she can’t, only to be reassured by Cory. Lacey can’t help when they are at the function that she feels like someone is watching her, although Cory reassures her, the feeling stays with her. With Cory needing to go to his club, with a lead on the person who hurt her, Lacey decides to go for a walk and that becomes one of her biggest mistakes. Ends in a cliffhanger.
I found this book to be well written and flow smoothly. It captured my attention at the tragedy at the beginning of the book and kept it all the way through. With his own issues finally out in the open, Cory and Lacey’s relationship only become stronger. Until Lacey’s ex makes his presence known. Off to read book 2!
