Statistically, if you kiss a lot of frogs there’s bound to be at least one that’s not a complete toad, isn’t there?

I had fun reading this book. It was a good thing that Joannie found love in the arms of her yummy neighbor. Wishing everyone is as lucky as she is!
Sometimes love doesn’t need to be looked far away, it is just on the sidelines.
Can Joanie really fall in love in 10 dates? Is she more attracted to that infuriating next door neighbor than any of her dates? I laughed out loud and couldn’t put it down.
One of the best stories I have read – totally entertaining – a must read.
A fun read-reminiscent of Notting Hill
Great, laugh out loud funny book!
More comedy than romance. The guys she is set up to date by her friend create some hilarious moments. The real hero is a little hard to believe. But, the humor makes for one of the most fun and light-hearted reads. Set reality aside and have a good laugh.
This book is along the lines of Bridget Jones Diary. Joanie is a seriously hot mess. I kept waiting for her to get her act together, but really it never panned out. She does finally achieve her HEA with the neighbor, but only because circumstances finally went her way. The guy was way too good for her. Ultimately I had a hard time liking Joanie and her friends.
I really enjoyed reading this story . I laughed and I couldn’t put it down . This is a new to me author and I really think this is a fantastic story . It’s well written and very entertaining .
Joanie , Melinda and Mikey and Ryan are terrific characters . I enjoyed this story so much I purchased the next two in the series as I’m sure they are just as great . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
It’s always wonderful to know new authors. It’s amazing to find out new writing, new stories, new ways to travel without leaving the comfort of your couch.
Emily James is a new author to me and I can assure you that after just one reading I’m a goner…
Her writing is sweet, funny and intense. You really need to dig in and see for yourself.
Ten Dates is the first book from the Power of Ten series and tells us Joanie’s story.
Joanie like every woman dreams of settling down, getting married and get her happily ever after but life has other ideas for her.
When her long time boyfriend decided to put their relationship on hold, her best friend decides that she needs an intervention.
10 dates in 10 days are her demand and Joanie sees herself doing a lot of blind dates but will she find her Prince?
So freaking awesome… This book nailed it… So good.
Fantastic plot, well written, super engaging and funny. OMG… So funny.
I’ve laughed so hard that I almost wet my pants…
There were parts of the book that I wanted to hurt someone but then there were others that I wanted to find their happily ever after.
Each scene was even more hilarious than the previous and it was so good.
Chapter after chapter caught my attention and I couldn’t put it down. It was great the chemistry these characters share and you could see the bond that connected them.
It was perfect in every way.
Emily… woman…this book was awesome and I can’t wait to start the next one.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
By far the BEST romantic comedy I’ve listened to date. Just WOW!! I LOVED everything about this book. It was adorably witty and entertainingly humorous… so many laugh-out-loud moments, I had to take a moment to collect myself at times. Joanie is hot off a break-up and reluctantly agrees to her best friend’s attempt to set her up on 10 (blind) dates, hoping that statistics will work in her favor and produce at least one great match. And that is where the fun begins… poor Joanie! Each date is more hilarious and disastrous then the last, as she navigates through these men while at the same time dealing with the antics and distraction of her hot and sexy neighbor, “Six”. FOUR and SIX—just BRILLIANT!!! The secondary characters are such a treat, aiding in the humor and flair of this comedic tale. I’m thrilled to have discovered this author, as her story-telling and sense of humor are undeniably clever. I look forward for more laugh-out-loud moments and crazy antics in the next book.
Listened to on audio: I definitely have to give props to narrator, Kim Bretton, as well. My first listen by her and she ROCKED this performance! The British accent and her ability to capture the personality of the characters, especially in such wacky situations, really made for a fabulous listening experience and brought this story to a whole other level of amusement!
I thoroughly enjoy 10 Dates and am anxious to listen or read the next book in the series. I do believe Melinda is due a bit of payback for all she put her bestie through in this book. Kim Bretton is a new to me narrator. Her delightful British accent gives great life to the hilarious predicaments poor Joanie is subjected to at the hands of her friends. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her narration and loved the characterization she gave each of the characters. I will definitely be looking into more books narrated by her. Grab this book or audiobook and prepare to laugh your arse off.
This rom/com is hysterical and definitely not safe for work, unless you want your coworkers looking oddly at you while you laugh yourself to tears. This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and it will definitely not be the last. Ms. James’s sense of humor is a breath of fresh air and her knack for getting her characters in ridiculous situations is more than amusing.
Poor Joanie can’t catch a break. Blindsided by her longtime boyfriend, her best friend sets herself in gear to find Joanie the man of her dreams. Melinda forces her bestie into 10 dates in 10 days; each more hilarious than the last. Much to Joanie’s chagrin, the train wreck of her dates is quite amusing to her hunky neighbor, Six, who sees the aftermath of each disaster. Joanie bounces between feeling sorry for herself and ranting to or about her enigmatic sexy neighbor, Six.
Ms. James excels at witty, humorous banter and double entendres. To avoid an accident, I literally had to pull off the road, I was laughing so hard listening to this book. Her characters are fun, witty, loyal and well-developed. Joanie’s friends are the only thing in her life she can truly depend on. Melinda just wants her friend to find her HEA, even though her personal life is falling apart. While Mikey is a great best friend to both women, as he pursues the chef teaching his cooking class. I found the fact that the tenants refer to each other by their flat numbers very amusing. Especially since for Joanie, since she is drawn to Six and for her Six and sex synonymous.
10 Dates is my first novel from Emily James and I am now hooked on this author and I want more. This romantic comedy had me laughing til tears were rolling down my face. The characters were likable, down-to-earth and relatable, the situations were amusing and comical, and you will enjoy every moment of this story. It was well written with the perfect blend of romance, heartbreak, friendship and comedy. I loved the back and fort banter between “4” and “6” and the addition of the secondary characters Mikey and Melinda added another level of hilarity to the mix. 10 Dates was an excellent story and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of romantic comedies.
I listened to the audiobook version of this novel. The narrator, Kim Bretton did a marvelous job with the characters. She had varying voices for each character and was able to infuse the correct emotion for them all. Her pace was excellent and she was perfectly suited to this role. It was a pleasure listening to her narrate this novel.
This was my first Emily James’s book, and won’t be my last! This is the first book in The Power of Ten Series. This enemies to lovers slow burn romance, and Romantic Comedy is hilarious, sexy, and fast paced! The roller-coaster of blind dates is hilarious. This is a refreshing story! Joanie is a lovely and fun character. Six is intriguing, fun, caring, and handsome. They are perfect together. The secondary characters are great, and they take an important part in this story. I love all about this story! I love the ending! Kim Bretton did an amazing job with the narration. She has a great voice, pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed listening this story. I’m looking forward for the next book in the Series! I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Fabulous Story & Audible Listen A Delightful RomCom!
Ten Dates (A Fun and Sexy Romantic Comedy Novel)
The Power of Ten, Book 1
By: Emily James
Narrated by: Kim Bretton
This is a wonderfully delightful story, it is fun and entertaining, best of all it has you smiling from start. This is my first Emily James book and it will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing style and the great storylines and characters she created. The dialogue was amazing with so many laugh out loud moments. I adored these characters, especially Joanie, she is so likable, she was a funny mess at times, some of the things she said and did was just hysterical, for example trying to save a parking spot by lying across starfish style. I could just picture it. After breaking up with her live-in boyfriend her bestie Melinda comes up with a plan to help her move on she would go on 10 dates in 10 days. Melinda plans these dates for her, some are more disastrous than others. Joanie is also dealing with a new neighbor, a hunk of a guy whom she calls “Six” she has a habit of calling he people in her building by the apartment number they live in. Six becomes a thorn in her side, but there is an undeniable chemistry there between them. I loved the mystery about him, how nice he was and how he was able to get under Joanie’s skin. Also loved the rapport between them. There was never a dull moment in this book, there was plenty of drama, mostly of the fun variety, some angst and nice twists and a slow burn, enemies who were never really enemies to lover romance. Emily James thank you for this wonderful story and the emotional and hilarious rollercoaster ride. I hope to see more of your books on Audible soon.
I listened to the Audible edition, Kim Bretton is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. She brings these characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. as well as heart and attitude. She did a great job landing the humorous banter and switching character roles flawlessly without missing a beat. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
Loved this story! I found myself laughing out loud as I read. Joan has the worst luck on her dates, and the push and pull between her and Six is hot! She has such a hard time trusting, but Six really tries to show her that she needs to let him in regardless of her past.
5 stars for 10 Dates by Emily James. This is book 1 in The Power of 10 series. I loved this book, it had me laughing the whole time. Joanie ends her engagement and her friends convince her to go on 10 blind dates in 10 days. “It’s as if I’ve been desperately clinging to a relationship that’s doomed because I’ve been convinced it’s my last shot at happiness.” As she is going on this date, she meets her new neighbor Six (we don’t learn his name until close to the end of the book). She finds him funny and handsome, but she thinks he is a womanizer. They continue to be at each others throats but still find each other attractive. They want each other but don’t know how to go about it. This book has so many points where I was dying laughing. I loved Joanie and Six. If you love romantic comedy than this book is for you.
***DNF***
And the horrific rom com book slump continues…
Plot overview: Desperate-to-be-married Joanie gets dumped by her boyfriend (big shock) and embarks on a set on blind dates.
I had to DNF at 9%, y’all. 9%. How sad is that? This book had over 200 gushy, glowy reviews on Amazon, and I had to DNF at 9%. I’m starting to feel like someone is playing a practical joke on me or something.
I will say that I didn’t DNF the book because it was poorly written. It wasn’t. And frankly, I found Joanie’s inner thoughts to be really funny in most cases. What I couldn’t get behind was finding YET ANOTHER romance novel heroine who is so terribly desperate to get married that she’s willing to accept crappy treatment because she thinks it’ll get her a ring faster. Joanie is SURE her boyfriend is going to propose, even though he’s given her exactly ZERO indications that he even cares about her at all. He’s so clearly using her to finance his business venture that it makes me want to smack Joanie across the face for thinking THIS guy is even remotely husband material.
Here’s what I learned about Joanie’s boyfriend (the guy she’s willing–desperate–to marry) in the first 9% of the book:
1. He’s been dating her for 3 years and has never made their relationship–or commitment–a priority
2. He cheated on her early in their relationship. She made excuses for him.
3. He asked her to pay for and plan a party for him when he fully intended to dump her at that party. She expected a ring. She made excuses for him again.
4. He calls her “Joan”, even though he knows she hates the name. She allows him to keep doing it, though.
5. He doesn’t say “I love you” to her. Like, ever.
6. He asked for an expensive computer for Christmas (which she bought him) and he got her a cheap copy of the watch she wanted.
Sounds like a great guy, huh? I really hate him, but honestly, I kind of hate Joanie more for tolerating that behavior and for being willing to overlook all of it just so that she can be married. She’s a total doormat and I hate her so much that I can’t keep reading, even though I’m sure she learns to not be doormat later in the book. (One can only hope, right?)
Women being portrayed as desperate ring seekers is only perpetuating the romance novel stigma and I’m totally over it.
So I’m out. I’m out at 9%. I’m out with extreme prejudice.

I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. I thought the banter between Six and Four was completely hysterical. Poor Joanie was a comical klutz. It was a very fun read.
This is a new author for me, but I will certainly be looking out for her work in the future. Joanie is not in a good place when her friends stage a crazy intervention and set her up with 10 dates in 10 days. This is a well written romantic comedy which is humorous, fun, entertaining and sexy read, which is not for the feint hearted. I was totally enthralled throughout and cannot wait to read more in this amazing series.
I read this book for the author as a beta. I have re-read it and still love it. It’s lighthearted and funny. It really has so many great qualities. I’m so grateful Emily chose me to read it. I definitely recommend you read this if you are looking for some lighthearted entertainment. (yeah, there’s serious stuff too! ) Great read
