Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She’d been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have… until he wasn’t beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

Where has this book been all my life? This was an amazing book about friendship, love, loss and heartache. Fern, Ambrose and Bailey will stay in my heart for a long time. Beautifully written and tugged at all the heartstrings. I even cursed a few times. I will be having pancakes for dinner tonight.
I loved everything about this book. EVERYTHING!
Fern, Bailey and Ambrose were the winners of this story. Talk about characters that crawled under my skin and into my heart. Making Faces was one emotional and tough story to get through but I loved in nonetheless thanks to those three people in particular.
The story touches on topics such as war, death, trauma that are all relatable and …
This is one of those love stories that is heartbreakingly beautiful.
Amy Harmon is amazing. I love her writing, and could read anything she writes and not be bored, and not feel like I’m reading the same story over again. Her characters are real – you feel for them, you relate to them, you love them. I don’t think you could go wrong with anything by this author.
This one destroyed me. DESTROYED. It is so completely beautiful and sad and lovely! All I can say is READ IT. It’s worth the tears. The characters are just beautiful, the story heart-wrenching, but the whole book feels like a gift.
“Victory is in the Battle.”
I’m going to make this short. Mostly because I don’t think I can write a review that will do this book justice. You should just go buy it, and read it for yourself.
Ripped from the pages of a fairytale, Making Faces is, at its core, a love story. Love between friends. Love between families. Love within a community. …
This book was about a girl that stood her ground and lived her life on what she knew was right! Friendship and family

Making Faces was truly created with a lot of love, and based on the acknowledgements in this book, it appears to be a very personal story for Ms. Harmon. It is the work of a master’s hand and the story is beautiful to read. There are so many elements in this story: friendship, love, loss, purpose, faith, beauty, endurance, and heroism. There are …

I absolutely loved this book.
I found this story to be incredibly touching. I think it would be especially poignant for older teen girls. The story leads us through the story of a small town and specifically through the lives of three central characters and several minor ones. I felt it was about insecurities and being able to look past them or move on from them. It was also …
I think this may be the best book I have ever read! I don’t think I have ever laughed or cried more. The characters are so endearing. It really touched my heart and had so many positive messages!
