If you are a fan of the unreliable narrator vein of domestic psychological thrillers (a la Gone Girl), you will really enjoy this book of secrets and lies. The author has a lyrical writing style that really enhanced the story for me.
Good book
This was a very good book! If I didn’t have to adult, I could have finished this book in a day. I was shocked at the twist at the end!! It is a must read! I would definitely recommend this book.
I read The Apartment in April when I realized I had a paperback of Liar on my shelves that I must have picked up from the local used bookstore. What’s more, I purchased this on Amazon in 2018. So I’ve purchased the book twice, and I must have really wanted to read it. I know it wouldn’t have had the tagline on Amazon when I bought it because whenever I read a book that has a tagline after the title, I find I don’t love it.
The characters drove me nuts. There was no depth to the males in the book; they were pretty much throw away characters. As far as Amber, well yes, she was supposed to be awful, and she was well-written in that regard. Judi’s husband Henry was appalling. I understand Slater wrote him to be blind to what Amber was doing, but he was useless. He was verbally abusive to Judi, always knocking her down, and for some reason, Judi stayed with him. I just didn’t get it.
Even Ben, blind to who Amber is underneath the facade, is rushing through his relationship at breakneck speed. And sure, he’s used to how his mother is. But he hadn’t been with anyone since his long-term wife, so why completely blow off her concerns? Why not take a moment to slow things down? He didn’t think of his children’s wants or needs, and that aspect made him a rubbish parent in my eyes.
I liked the plot. That you really have no say in who your children spend their lives with is probably always in the back of a parent’s mind. As the tagline suggests, this was a thriller and there is a “shocking twist”, and while it was a twist, it definitely wasn’t shocking. The book starts with a murder, which is a fun way to start as you’re about to start the story of how they got to this point. There were some parts I loved and some I didn’t, so I think it will be hit or miss for other readers. Overall, a strong, 3-star read.
The characters were well developed, and it was interesting to discover what was going to happen next. Judi, the mother, used her women’s intuition, and was right on target. I wanted to have a serious talk with Amber about her behavior. What a nasty person! I recommend this book.
Let’s talk about Liar. I felt all kinds of frustration and curiosity… it definitely kept my attention. I hate suffocating mothers (again, my issue) but the deeper you get into the characters the better it gets. It’s not the best one of Slater’s books but it’s a good read. The end tries very hard to twist until it’s a fantastical moment that tried to be shocking, but aside from that, it had a few good gems of uniqueness that made it a good book
The only thing I did not like about this book is the ending. It left me having to decide what actually happened. An epilogue would have been great.
Unbelievable ending. Never suspected grandma as the trouble maker.
I didn’t see this ending coming. what a great book…so much that you hate when it’s finished!!
Excellent
Loved the twist to this!
Surprising to the very end.
This one keeps you guessing. Guessing wrong. I thought it was going one way and then it went the other. Couldn’t put it down.
a great refreshing psychological thriller with a totally awesome ending I didn’t see coming.
read this book. I highly recommend.
Oh My Liar is a complete mind bend, This book By K.L. Slater took me completely by surprise and what I thought I knew was turned topsy-turvy in this totally addictive tale.
From the moment I picked up Liar, I was sold, This story grips you from the start and I found it impossible to rest until I uncovered the mystery that was Amber.
Who is Amber?
What is her purpose?
What does she want?
And why the animosity towards Judy Bens Mother?
The plot thickens and I was rubbing my hands together in glee as this is totally my type of story.
And I can honestly say I so wasn’t disappointed, Liar manages to layer the mystique superbly.
Bringing the story to a dramatic unexpected finale that I really didn’t see coming at all.
No spoilers here Just the need to convey that this story is totally worth a read.
This is one of them books that you really can’t say too much about the plot without giving away what in my opinion is a pure genius conclusion.
So my opinion on the main characters here, We have Ben widowed for two years and ripe for the picking. I found him a loveable mummy’s boy and an easy target for Amber’s schemes.
Amber herself is an enigma, it’s clear she has her own agenda that we the reader are kept totally in the dark about.
Judy Bens mother, well she likes to be completely involved in her sons and grandsons lives she seems a strong determined lady.
Henry Bens dad and Judy’s hubby, well he really got on my wick, he needs to get off his butt and help Judy more and as for the other things we discover about him well reading Liar, I’m just going to say it put me right off him.
The two little boys are cute Noah and Josh I would have liked a bit more interaction from these two. I felt we didn’t quite get to determine their individual personalities. I think it would have been nice to sit down and get to know the boys properly.
So, in conclusion, this was a very delightful read, Liar was well written and brilliantly constructed.
It was easy to follow and kept my interest till the finish, and as an added bonus it even managed to shock and surprise me, so job well done K.L. Slater.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance reader copy Of Liar By K.L Slater.
This is my own honest opinion.

Great surprise ending, I never saw it coming
Liar By K.L.Slater I love this book! My ear buds were glued to my head! Narration by Lucy Price-Lewis is as always, excellent. I very highly recommend!!!
Pretty good story. Listened to it while I exercised and it was enough to take my mind of it, which is great. A little twisted, but most thrillers are.
Totally twisted! Fast and fun read.
