Alice Carroll hardly remembers life before the plague. When the undead first crawled from their graves, it was like a nightmare. When they killed her mother, the nightmare became shockingly real. Now her sister Dinah has contracted the ‘un-deadly’ virus and without a cure, soon she’ll be worse than dead. She’ll be Momerath. To save her sister, Alice must leave the safety of the Sector and venture … Sector and venture into Momerath territory in search of an antidote – if it exists. Chasing a rumor about a mysterious doctor with a cure, Alice falls down the rabbit hole into Wanderland, where ravenous Momerath aren’t the only danger lurking.

I love this cover so much and every page in between. I’m so excited I own the hard copy too.
A new spin on a classic favorite. Even better, it’s a zombie tale. “Momeraths,” so clever!
Writing style, pacing, action, and tension kept me entertained and hooked.
Other than the occasional lengthy dialogue from Abbott and Hatta, there were little-to-no interruptions in the pace of the story from start to finish.
I love Alice, and Chess is my favorite character. He’s flighty, but for good reason. I’m looking forward to seeing how his character’s strengths and weaknesses help or hinder Alice in the next book. Alice is a strong character, who isn’t easily deterred from her mission to find the cure, even when the Red Queen double crosses her.
Overall, I recommend this to re-telling and zombie lovers alike. It was a fun, fast paced, easy read with some clever references to the classic tale of Alice woven in. Five Red Hearts from me! Looking forward to Sullivan’s re-telling of Peter Pan next!
I love a good retelling, and Alice by J.M. Sullivan is no exception. J.M. has created an incredible world in which Alice has to fight to save her sister, Dinah from a virus that is turning people into zombie-like creatures. Along the way, she meets a few guys that help her out (I’m avoiding spoilers here, but I picked the wrong ship, ya’ll) and eventually get her to the source of the virus. Characters are twisted and turned and seen in a completely new light. For fans of twisted retellings, this is defintiely one for you.
Alice is a fabulous twist on a classic we all love. One of my favorite things about this book is that its set in Arizona! Ah its the little things. The story is both entertaining and unique with some really great characters. I didn’t like all of them. You’ll know why once you read the book. Going in I wasn’t sure what to expect, seeing as the author put a dystopian twist on a classic. It totally worked and blew my mind! Theres also a ton of scenes that will get your pulse racing! Danger, suspense and action oh my! The twists that were revealed gave me the chills. I did not see any of that coming!
This is a wonderful read from beginning to end. Did I binge read this book? Yes I did. Its that good! I can’t wait to read the next one. I give this 5 stars!
When I first heard about this book, it wasn’t even released yet, but I remember thinking it sounded interesting, and I bought it as a preorder as soon as it was available. Fast forward to last week and I finally got around to actually reading it, though by that time, I had completely forgotten what the premise of the story even was. I just knew it was an Alice in Wonderland retelling. So I was a little surprised when I started reading and found myself in some kind of zombie apocalypse. Intrigued, and maybe even a little delighted, but surprised. I’m not sure what I expected, but it wasn’t that. Nevertheless, the story sucked me in immediately, and I was extremely curious to see how everything would align with the original.
The novel follows a young woman named Alice as she navigates through the ruined wastes of a territory known as Wanderland on a quest to save her sister Dinah. The outbreak of a deadly virus has left the land inhabited by deadly momerath (zombies, basically, though these seem faster and stronger than how you might imagine the typical zombie). Along the way, she meets characters who are familiar from the source material but creatively reimagined, including a young man named Chess, the fearsome Red Queen, and a recluse known as Bug who provides Alice with some important information early on in her journey. My favorites, however, were the nervous, time-concious Dr. Abbot and the disturbingly twisted Dr. Matt Hatta. They were both so well-written into the plot and background of the story that it really added a unique twist to what could have been just a simple rehashing of the story in a different setting.
I also really loved the book’s tone. It felt dark and sometimes even downright scary compared to the original (appropriate, given the setting), but there were still some more lighthearted moments that felt like they belonged there and gave the story strong Alice in Wonderland vibes. The action scenes got to be a little much for me at times and started to seem like just a play-by-play of every blow and punch and inflicted injury. I found myself skimming over those parts, but I’m sure there are some readers who would actually enjoy that. Overall, it was a really fun read and I look forward to the next book in the series.
quick easy read with a slight twist to the zombie theme.
Alice was sensational! The way J.M Sullivan twisted the original childhood classic, Alice in Wonderland, and created her own version is brilliant. If you’re looking for a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat then I recommend Alice.
This was an interesting take on Alice in Wonderland, but it seems as if Alice’s backstory could have been built more.
It took a little bit to get into this book. The first chapter or 2 I thought I wasn’t going to like it and started to stop reading it. However, by the end, I was dismayed to find the end of the chapter and the need to purchase another book! The play on the Alice in Wonderland theme was just enough to anticipate things that could happen next but not enough to think that you were just reading another Alice in Wonderland story! Awesome job to the author!!!
This was a really creative, well-written retelling of “Alice in Wonderland” (if her mother was Michonne from “The Walking Dead”). The second half of the book got a bit battle-heavy for me, but besides that, it was a fun read.
