loved it!!!!
A really fast read.
I enjoyed this light story. It was different.
Good fast read
Oh my goodness!
This was a train wreck. While the innkeeper knew absolutely nothing about running and inn, it was comical. I found myself giggling more than I should have for being a murder mystery. It was the little things that made me chuckle. Playing a game of cards to kill time after some of the deaths? Who would do that?!?! These guys did! Very comical as I said, light hearted even thought it was dealing with a real issue. Mean Girls. Your words and actions can hurt even when you don’t realize it. Always be kind. For real, it’s not that hard.
About the audio. I did not expect to love it so much being a male narrator. He did a great job!
In the Heart of Windy Pines #3 – I do not know where I found this book but it turned out to be a sample. I would have enjoyed reading this but it is hard to do with a one chapter sample. The story started off well and Myrtle the innkeeper was a trip. 3*
UPDATE Dec. 16, 2019: I found a copy on Booksprout and decided to read it. Both the mobi and epub files had formatting problems; the title and author’s name headers and page numbers were mixed in with the body. Changing formatting in my app did not solve the problem. Added to the fact, there are more problems with the body, an enter stroke after every single word in sentences.
Where Mistletoe Manor was actually worth reading, this book is not. The writing style follows more along Port Elspeth instead of Manor. I read four chapters and could not skim the rest. The writing was not up to par. I have several other books by this author that I will delete. One OK out of three does not encourage me to continue. The newest book should always be an improvement over the previous books; it is called learning the craft of writing. The sample and this book did not match. I change my rating from three to one star. I found this book on Booksprout. 1*
Murder at Mistletoe Manor #1 – This is my first read by this author and I am surprised. The writing and the storylines are better than I expected. The main characters work well together. The innkeeper is a bit smart mouthed to her guests but she and Myrtle are a perfect fit. The murderer is easy to figure out but the story is still interesting. 3*
The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club – I had two of the three recommended books to read before In the Heart of Windy Pines, spoilers. This book is not worth skimming, which I did for most of it. The book is silly, boring and rambles on forever, the characters are flat, the dialogues are stupid, and the writing style is vastly different from Mistletoe Manor, which had no profanity. The lesbian relationship is too heavily stressed given the storylines; guess the author wanted to be exceptionally PC. The murderer is easy to figure out. The cover of the book is nice, the reason the book interested me. This is a fine example of “don’t judge the book by its cover”. 1*
This book starts off with confusion and turns into murder. I enjoyed listening to this book and the twist in the end was fun to find out.
This is a quirky, entertaining, and enjoyable book/audiobook. Strange things begin to happen among the guests at Mistletoe Manor. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys something a little different in their mysteries. Enjoy!
Murder at Mistletoe Manor
A Mystery Novella
By: Holly Tierney-Bedord
Narrated by: Christopher Lane
Do you like the game of Clue? That is what this book reminded me of. It’s a fast past who is doing it story leaving a bread crumb trail of clues. Clarinda owns Mistletoe Manor and gets 7 unexpected, annoying guests along with an anonymous package. Most of the guests have a common thread, but slowly over the course of the night they are each being having a fatal accident! But are they really accidents? I loved this quick listen. It’s full of sarcasm and humor, quirky characters and it’s just a blast trying to put some semblance to the disorder. Narrated by Christopher Lane, you will enjoy an array of voices, some with attitude and a delivery to keep you both laughing and on your toes. Give this one a listen and see what you think!

What an unexpected treat it was to listen to this wonderful story! Murder at Mistletoe Manor has everything I love to read at this time of the year—a cast of quirky, interesting characters, humor, revenge, and murder, all centered around a touch of Christmas. Yep, that sounds about right, don’t you think?
And let me give a shout out here to the narrator. I loved listening to his voice and he made this entertaining story even more appealing.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Manor and I really hope I get a chance to visit again. I look forward to getting to know Klarinda better as well as all of the rest of the memorable people of Windy Pines. This was a fun, quick read that will have you clamoring for more!
Favorite Quotes:
“I’ll call Rod Showers. His rates are reasonable. And he’s a hottie!” “Myrtle, are you serious? He’s got to be seventy years old,” said Klarinda. “Easier to catch him,” said Myrtle, wiggling her eyebrows.
With me here and him there, that means a hundred percent of his common sense isn’t even in the same state as his penis. I should have known better than to come here.
My Review:
This was a quickly paced, wryly humorous, and fun cozy murder mystery featuring a revenge plot in a small-town inn located in the middle of nowhere Idaho. It was a banner day for the struggling innkeeper as all seven rooms had been reserved, yet when her guests arrived, they all mentioned winning an all-expense paid luxury vacation to her inn, which was a stunning surprise to the innkeeper. A large envelope stuffed with cash arrived later, which helped to ease the sting as well as adding an extra layer of puzzlement.
The weather was foul although not as vicious as the contemptuous and imperious attitudes of the female guests. It was readily apparent that the evening was likely to be of an increasingly unpleasant nature, more for some than others as most of the guests departed the premises with the coroner. The storylines were original, easy to follow, unpredictable, well-paced, and entertaining. Many of my favorite moments were the humorous inner musings and observations of the innkeeper, although I was quite taken by the quirkiness of the characters as well as the many ancillary details such as the elderly reindeer sweatered gentlemen who caroled on skis ~ smirk.
