The second installment of the White House Series, from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans. We fell in love during the campaign. The stakes were high.Reputations could have been ruined.Scandal hovered over us like a cloud. Now the man I love is the President of the United States of America. And its not my vote he is after. He wants it all.My heart. My body. My soul.He wants me … all.
My heart. My body. My soul.
He wants me by his side.
In the White House.
Normalcy will be gone from my life, privacy forgotten.
I am only twenty three. I just wanted to play a part in history. But it seems like history wasn’t done with me. The part where I lost my heart to Matthew Hamilton? It was only the beginning…

Commander In Chief was everything I’d hoped it would be. No, that’s not true. It was so much more. The feelings–my feelings–so intense. The love–super crazy love. In Katy’s acknowledgements she mentioned hoping people would be able to “feel this. Just like this.” I guarantee you, I felt it.
“I fucking love the hell out of you,” he whispers.
I was so afraid, not knowing what was going to happen with the investigation. That’s all I’m saying about that… so I don’t ruin it for everyone.
His Eyes. I swear they are like the best coffee you will ever have.
The conclusion to the White House duet is fantastic–and not just Matt–though he is so dreamy. I mean D R E A M Y and one hell of a president. Honestly if we had someone like that in office, our world would be a MUCH better place. He is so darn inspiring!
“You have no idea the amount of cells that become inactive in women’s brains when you walk by,” I say.
I absolutely adore Charlotte. She is everything a First Lady should be–and she supports him, no matter what. Together these two are a formidable force and that makes Commander In Chief one hell of a story.
My Verdict: 5 Presidential Stars
The POTUS is in the house, and getting busy with the FLOTUS everywhere! I don’t think they left a room or a surface untouched. I don’t blame them, I’d probably be the same way too. We all know that house has seen some freaky deaky things.
I’m just going to say I liked the first book better. This one didn’t really do that much for me story wise. I found myself putting it down quite a bit. I liked that we got to see them throughout their 4 years but besides that, and the copious amount of shagging, that was pretty much it. But I’m still Team Hamilton all the way!
** spoiler alert ** ******************MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, ACTUALLY IT PROBABLY DOES****************
Matt is a man dedicated to his woman, and he could care less about what others think, “I reach for my clothes as Matt rolls to his back and links his hands behind his head, a frown on his face. “Let them. Let the rumors start. We won’t confirm anything until we want to.” There are times when Matt gets all excited he can act like an animal, “…he sets his glasses aside and kicks his chair back, crosses the room, grabs me by the chin so my eyes are level with his, and reaches out and puts his hand on my stomach, lowering his head, his chest expanding as he inhales and sets his forehead on mine. “Say it. Again,” he growls.” I loved this book, I loved Matt so much.
“Every day, I wonder what you’re doing, who you’re talking to, who you’re smiling at, and I want it to be me.”
Mr. President was one of my favorite reads of 2016 and I was pretty excited when I found out it wasn’t a stand-alone. Some stories you just can’t fit in to one book. Commander in Chief was a great book and it reminded me why I loved Matt and Charlotte so much in the first book. Matt was perfect, there was nothing he could’ve done to top anything he did in this book. I fell hard for him in Mr. President and in this book that feeling just got stronger. He is definitely one of my all time favorite book boyfriends. Charlotte was her strong, sweet and independent self and was such a great support to Matt. They were always honest with each other and didn’t hide their feelings, that was what I found the most beautiful about their love.
The author did an amazing job with this book. She took us on a beautiful journey of Matt and Charlotte’s love and showed us how their love evolved. These two are one of my favorite characters, that are also such a perfect couple. They always kept each other in mind and never hurt one another. Their love was so pure and amazing and I was swooning throughout the whole book. I especially enjoyed reading the love making between the two. Matt is so passionate and dirty, just the way I like my men. The main reason why I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because of the second half of the book, which in my opinion felt like a very long epilogue that showed us snapshots of their life together. I love a little bit of drama in my books or something that tests the love of the couple, just to bring some action into the story. But overall this book was a beautiful conclusion to Matt & Charlotte’s perfect love.
My love for this duet, these characters, this storyline, is just off the freaking damn charts. Katy Evans left me swooning in a puddle of nerves, suffering from all the butterflies in my stomach. It was such a thrilling feeling the whole time, reading the continuation of Matthew Hamilton and Charlotte Wells’ tale. It’s certainly a high you’ll never want to come down from. Matt and Charlotte’s chemistry is on a whole other level in this book and the sexual tension is higher than ever. Commander in Chief, or shall I say President Hamilton himself, is so deliciously and irrevocably perfect that I’ll just keep asking for more.
After being left up in the air with the kind of cliffhanger Mr. President has, this was the absolute best follow up Evans could give us. I was so happy with how the growth of the characters was shown. How Matt realized he can choose both governing and holding the highest office in the country, and have a relationship, a family, at the same time, and still stand strong. How Charlotte was able to overcome the fear of not being able to live up to what the country needs from her as the First Lady, if she could ever be enough given her very young age, and still hold her head up high.
Let’s face it, Matthew Hamilton melted my heart, my undies and all of my insides ever since I’ve read Mr. President. It wasn’t anything new, really, but I think he completely incinerated me here on this one. I fell in love all over again with his soft side, his passion and determination, his honesty and openness. Matt going after Charlotte, doing his damnedest to win her back and make everything work with her, to have her by his side, was HOT. Matt speaking his truths, connecting with his people, handling the press and facing tragedies head on was a kind of sexy that’s hard to explain, yet SEXY nonetheless. But Matt with a family? Balancing his time, making sure he’s doing everything in his power to protect and make everyone, not only his own family, happy, satisfied and safe? Now that’s downright SWOON WORTHY.
Charlotte Wells is just as strong and passionate a character as Matthew is. She’s proved herself time and time again how big her heart is and how much she’s so driven to make a difference in other people’s lives. She wanted to make her mark in the world and she’s done it so gracefully. No matter how hard or impossible it seems, she just never gave up and made it happen. I loved the fire she has burning in her. And the way she held herself up even when she was scared or nervous. She was surprised to learn how much of an inspiration she was to President Hamilton, but to me, it was really no shock at all. You’d clearly see and feel why Matthew adores and worships the very ground this woman walks on, even if he’s the POTUS. They were just that impeccably made for each other.
Now that their story has ended, no matter how much bittersweet feels I have over this or how much I want more of the Hamilton family, I can’t wait to learn more about this third book in the series Katy Evans mentioned in her author’s note. It should be about a different couple, a complete standalone with new characters, though set in the same world and timeframe of Matt’s second term as president. WHOOP!
#HammyForever
“I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” –Presidential Oath.
At the end of MR PRESIDENT (White House #1) we’re left on a slight cliffy and because of that, us readers, are left heart broken. But fans of Katy Evans’ novels know that we will not be left unsatisfied, she will give us what we hope for and then some and she DEFINTELY did that with COMMANDER IN CHIEF.
COMMANDER IN CHIEF (White House #2) “CIC” starts out two months after the ending of the MR PRESIDENT (White House #1), Matthew Hamilton is to be the forty-sixth President of the United States and Charlotte Wells has been in Europe with her friend trying to heal and find a way to move on from a love lost. Matt has come to his senses and is determined to prove to himself, Charlotte and the world, that he can conquer both the White House and Charlotte, he just needs to get the woman he loves on the “same page”. He knows that she is back home and that she plans to attend his inauguration and he is going to use that to his advantage.
“What do you want from me?” -Charlotte
“Do you want this?” -Matt
“What is ‘this’?” I ask uncertainly. -Charlotte
“Everything.” –Matt
In all Charlotte’s attempts to regain her sense of self and stick to her reasons why a relationship with Matt Hamilton could never work, even after two months, she has NOT been able to fight those wants and needs to be with him. “This is Matt. I crossed an ocean to forget him, but I’d swim across thousands for this man.” –Charlotte. Now Matt is offering her everything she wants, HIM…plus, everything she doesn’t realize yet that she can have and deep down inside wants as well, the White House. He is offering her something she never envisioned for herself, until now. “Come to the White House. Be my acting First Lady.” –Matt. Charlotte has only ever wanted out of life, a man to love and to make a difference, but these new opportunities bring new challenges. They bring new uncertainties, new self-doubts and fears. She doesn’t want their moments before him winning the election, to be tainted by the public’s assumptions of them and how they got to the point they are in their relationship. She wants him, but the fear of all the uncertainties can be overwhelming. She wants to be deserving. Deserving to be there in the White house. Deserving to be there by Matt’s side. Deserving of the First Lady title. Charlotte learns real quickly that her integrity and her sheer determination to make a difference in the world, speaks for itself. They don’t need to prove to the world that she is the “right” woman to stand by Matt’s side, she already does that on her own, by just doing and being who she is, SHE is the one who needs the convincing that she is worthy of the honorable position. “I am still that girl. The one who wants to make a difference.” –Charlotte. And once she figures that out, both her and Matt’s resolve will be unstoppable. They will overcome any and all obstacles that come their way, internal and external.
CIC is so much more than a political romance. It has the heart and soul of a true love story between a man and woman that realize that they can and will make a difference in the world and they will do so, as a couple. I feel as if Katy Evans captured the true essence of these two characters in this duet conclusion. With every page read, I was completely electrified by Matt and Charlotte’s passion for each other and their dedication for their White House roles. While reading, it felt as if I was experiencing their relationship. As if I was the one going through all the self-doubts, fears, as well as the happiness and love they experienced. By the end of CIC, both Charlotte and Matt’s characters evolved, both in their love for each other and in their characters development in general. I could sense the shifting in both characters as they realized that “Yes, we ARE going to have a relationship.” and “Yes, we ARE going to make this relationship work.” Every experience, every word, every kiss, EVERY encounter *fans self* brings them to this short of pinnacle both in their personal relationship and their roles as President and First Lady that was writing to perfection.
I hope that my “campaigning” for their love and their story convinced you to give them a chance. They definitely could use your vote *wink* If you’re considering picking up this duet, PLEASE DO SO. I think you’ll love the “slow burn to complete combustion” between Charlotte and Matt. Their love will definitely go down in history.
“He is more than I ever wished for, more than I ever dreamed of.” –Charlotte.
5 stars!
I am in love with the White House Series! Katy does an amazing job bringing these characters to life in such a way that you feel as if you are part of their story! This book was such a great read that I had a hard time putting it down and so will you!
Commander in Chief is part of a duet that picks up in the second book with Matt Hamilton becoming President. That key element really isn’t a spoiler since Katy titled them the way she did. What really grabs one’s attention is the chemistry between Charlotte and Matt. How can they possibly have a relationship with so much scrutiny on each of them? Will Matt’s father’s assassin ever be brought to justice? Will Charlotte and Matt make a lasting impact in their role? It’s worth the investment to pick up both these books up for a great winter read. They are sweet and will encourage you to see the best in Americans striving to live their destiny and make a difference.
I recommend it – Five STARS
The book I’ve been waiting for since I devoured Mr. President!
I have a thing for politics. I follow it and I am known to have MSNBC on all day everyday. This duet has been a treat for me just for this alone. Charlotte and Matt have such great chemistry and I am a huge fan of them. This book was a great follow up to Mr. President and I’m so glad I read it. My only reason for rating this a 4 and not a 5 was because this really had no conflict. It was just nice. The whole time. I need conflict to keep me interested and to make it more. I needed more. I wanted more. If this book would of had that on top of everything it has now it would of been a 5 star for sure. The rest was on point. I still recommend this if you have read Mr. President or if these books sound good to you.
Well done. Wonderful characters. Slow start, little angst or drama. But real genuine love for country and family. Love is a choice and a commitment. Very well done.
I loved these books! Great writing, great characters!
This book picks up where Mr. President left off.
Closure was brought in this book. The killer of Matt’s father, which his mother and him have been waiting for year and years, was finally found and taken care of.
He finally married Charlotte and had a little boy, make that two children in the end!
AND…..Matt was voted president for a second term!!
To begin to know what the Constitution had in mind when creating the roll of Commander in Chief (with George Washington in mind) check out how President Roosevelt knew and understood what they had in mind. (None of this let the Generals tell me what to do ) of recent approaches ! Bob
After reading Mr. President I was really looking forward to the conclusion but I was left feeling let down. I did enjoy the book but I found it very boring and predictable compared to the first book in the series. Still worth the read just not quite what I expected.
