If Killian can sort through the lies he’s been fed, he’ll still face his biggest obstacle-convincing rational scientist Blaine to believe in magic.

Wow! I highly recommend this book! When Killian and Blaine first meet the sparks flew! They were immediately drawn together but Killian has a secret that keeps them apart. Add in a mischievous feline and their story just gets better! I’m looking forward to reading the next book!
Stars 4 1/2
Spell Cat is a fun read.
The storyline is light, with a brisk flow, touching briefly on the backstory of the witches (specifically as it affects Killian’s romantic and marital prospects) but focusing mostly on Killian and Blaine and a few of their students. There is some angst but not too much and relaxed humor that kept a smile on my face. The action at the end of the book is exciting, and I wish there could have been more.
The secondary characters are well placed, support the storyline, and help to push the story along.
Al is my favorite of those characters.
Killian and Blaine are a lovely couple, and I enjoyed watching them get together. The sexy times are well done, and their HEA is satisfying.
As soon as I finished this, I was looking for book two.
I look forward to more from this author.
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book .
This is, as far as I can see, the first I have read of Tara lain’s work, but my wish list is so many books longer!
I LOVED this!
Killian is a professor of history, witchcraft history. Ironic since he is the most powerful male with in ten generations, and is expected to produce an heir. Also ironic, since he is gay. Meeting Blaine, and Killian has a profound reaction to him, but they can never be together. Physics professor Blaine is human. But Aloysius the cat likes Blaine, why could he not be Killian’s true love?
I loved the way Al attaches to Killian and Blaine so very quickly. The way Al defends Killian when he make s a silly mistake. Love the way everyone has a say, not just Killian and Blaine. A few of the secondary characters have a say, and I will admit, at one point, I thought there were too many of them, but when it all comes together? Perfect!
Its funny in places, and almost (but not quite) heartbreaking in others. It’s sweet and sexy, and dark and deadly. It’s different, and I really loved it!!
Aloysius is the star of the show, though, being far less of a cat than I expected! I wanted HIM to have a say, though, cos I wasn’t sure what he was, other than a familiar. I mean, it says he’s a familiar, but he just appears as a gift for Killian from his mother, and I wanted a bit more about the animal.
One sitting read, and I loved it. I said that already, didn’t I? But you know, it needs saying a time or three!
5 full and shiny stars, with a rumble of thunder for good measure!

As I was reading Tara Lain ‘s Spell Cat, I couldn’t help but smile ear to ear from the beginning to the end and laugh hysterically at certain scenes. Ms. Lain has a way of writing a serious, riveting romantic story with lots of drama and suspense overlaid with lots of whimsy and wit.
Oh my God. That was an interesting constructing book. The characters and story intricacy was mind blowing. Killian and Blaine are a sweet couple that had to get over a lot of obstacles to their deserved happiness. Aloysius is an amazing familiar with great power and a particular sense of humour that weighed a lot in developing and achieving their better future.
Life was not kind to Killian as a powerful gay witch and at beginning he resist and refuses Blaine advances. Blaine has some difficulties in accepting Killian as a witch but in the end love wins.
The book was amazing and I can’t wait for the next one.
This is a great new start to a new series!! Killian is witch and history pressor and Blaine is a physic professor and human! Killian has been taught that witch and humans don’t combine, it will drain their power. But the have an instant attraction to one another. Loved the familiar, Aloysius. I really enjoyed the story, definitely can’t wait for more!!

This was a great kick off to a new series by a wonderful author. Tara can create new worlds that are so believable…you really think they exist. Killian is a master witch who happens to be a professor of history…and delves into the mistreatment of witches through the ages. He also separates the fact from the fiction.
Blaine is a fellow professor…of physics…so they both deal with the ‘physical world’ is some manner.
They have an immediate attraction to each other, which should be easy to follow to a happy conclusion, except for some interfering witches who happen to be very invested in retaining power over humans. Throw in the Russian mafia, a defiant female witch and a young man who is just discovering he is a witch, and you have a great story.
And don’t forget Aloysius and his crossed eyes. There is more excitement than you can imagine ahead!
I liked this book. I wanted to like it so much, but it fell a bit flat. I’m not even sure what would have made it better. I did connect to the characters and loved Blaine a ton. Lillian was a bit whiny at times and it was off putting for who he was. Al was awesome and I’m a huge sucker for cats so there’s that. I am also not a huge fan of on the page for sure but any romantic activities outside of the MCs, so that did not help. I understood it, but ya left a bad taste in my mouth. I did fine the change of perspectives to be a bit forced at some points too.
Things I loved: Al, Blaine, Jimmy – they really made this book. Jimmy and Al being side characters and they shined so bright. I was so happy that Blaine and Killian got their HEA and the ending was so sweet. I’m happy for Jimmy’s HEA as well. And skirt Graves on the audio was fantastic. One of my favorite narrators. He definitely kept me entertained.

This was a fun story and I enjoyed it, but it didn’t “wow” me or leave me salivating for the next book in the series. There were a lot of great scenes especially the sex scenes which were hot and wonderful.
