I haven’t word….
Sonea is the first slum dweller to have had her magic naturally released. This poses a problem to the Magicians’ Guild and the ruling class, for no magicians can live outside of the Guild’s rule.
This fast paced story follows Sonea’s journey from realising she has magic to evading the Guild to finally having to decide whether she wants to join …
read this book some time ago and it’s very good
A lower-class young girl is found to have strong magical ability. She’s taken into the Magician’s Guild for training and her upper-class classmates are none to happy about it. Her sponsor, a teacher in the Guild, tries to protect her from the worst of the harassment while grappling with the politics of the Guild. Canavan skillfully weaves in other …
Tried this new-to-me series starter because of the 1.99 intro price and am so glad I did! Magic, intrigue, and societal and class differences abound, offering plenty of opportunities for the major characters to shine, plot, take action – or not, and sweep you up into the tale. I dreaded the end of the story and have already devoured the next in …
Wonderful book
While reading this book it was a 2 1/2 stars tops, not quite a 3. But by the last 30 or so pages, it redeemed itself and I wanted to give it 4 stars, (with the exception of how I previously felt during reading up to that point.)
The book spends A LOT of time describing the vast differences in the classes, between the slums, thieves, and magicians. …
A total page turner that draws you into a whole new world of magic and intrigue. Following the magical journey of a young girl who doesn’t know what she’s capable of. A marvelous read that I couldn’t put down.
This is one of my favorite series to re-read. Love the characters and the set up of the world, and I think it has great appeal to fans of Harry Potter with the magician-in-training element. My only complaint about this book and this trilogy in general is that sometimes the most emotional moments aren’t as in depth as I like, but that’s just my …
This book made me fall in love with Trudi Canavan’s writing. She is a master storyteller, and world builder. I can’t recommend this book enough. The series is amazing, and went on to be a second series set decades after the events of this, you will not be short on material to read!
It’s been a few years since I read this series, but I remember really enjoying it and having a difficult time putting it down. It’s an easy read, but also dark at times and just a lot of fun.
Fun Fact, the author (who I don’t know), is also a really accomplished artist. I visited her website years ago and was impressed with her paintings.
